Hello, citizens of Acity!
Today’s featured work, [Interweave], was created based on the core theories of the master of modern semiotics, Roland Barthes: "The Pleasure of the Text" (Le Plaisir du texte) and "The Grain of the Voice" (Grain). Barthes noted that the etymology of the word "Text" comes from "Textile" (weaving). He viewed the act of reading the world not merely as absorbing information, but as an active process of weaving together strands of meaning to find one's own pleasure. This project visualizes a subject who weaves her own unique narrative within a fixed system, set against the backdrop of a factory filled with mechanical looms.
The weaving machines in the video symbolize the rigid rules demanded by social systems. However, the splendid fabrics flowing between them represent the free narrative created by Luna’s senses. Her presence—sitting atop bolts of fabric or standing firmly while holding the cloth—visualizes the sovereign act of creating her own "Grain," a unique texture within a repetitive routine. The beams of light pouring in symbolize Barthes’ "Jouissance" (Bliss)—a moment of sensory ecstasy felt when fixed meanings are dismantled.
The lyric "A bliss taking over from the quiet within" sings of a pure, sensory joy that transcends language. Furthermore, the declaration "Carving out a myth inside this monochrome space" reflects the dignity of a designer who overwrites a tedious system with her own beautiful sentences (textiles).
A time to interweave your own colors through the established rules. Following the gaze of the designer who transforms even the cold sound of machinery into her own rhythm, I hope you enjoy a time of pleasant contemplation as you discover your own jouissance within the text of daily life.
