00:48That's true, we will shortly find out.
00:49The only way we might find out is that actually have a look.
00:51Entrance is the other way though, entrance is the other way.
00:54Oh, okay.
00:55I was going to go in the cycle.
00:57No, you're going to go in the emergency.
01:00Oh, I was going to go with the emergency exit.
01:03Oh well, that's one way to get in.
01:06I'm excited, are you excited to see textile art?
01:10Spencer is beside himself.
01:12Oh Spencer's very excited.
01:13Yeah Spencer's very excited.
01:15Are you excited about seeing textile art?
01:18Yes he is, he's small, he's excited.
01:21Are you excited to see textile art?
01:23When they ask you what you did on your school holidays, you'll be able to say you got some culture
01:27and you went to see textile art.
01:31Your art teacher will be impressed.
01:33Now Spencer, climbing and touching the artwork is not familiar.
01:42Excited.
01:42What?
01:44I have not seen such an excited reaction.
01:48Nada.
01:49Oh, it sort of is material stuff, isn't it?
01:54Oh, that's textile.
01:57Now come on.
01:58G'day, hi.
02:00We're very excited to be seeing textile art.
02:06Is there a charge to go in?
02:08No, that's owned by the council.
02:10Oh, thank you.
02:11Thanks so much.
02:13Oh, look.
02:15That's so cool.
02:17It's not touching.
02:19Or are we allowed to touch it?
02:20Of course you're not allowed to touch it.
02:22Yeah, but I thought that was the front, so maybe it would.
02:25What if they had the Mona Lisa at the front?
02:27Oh, yeah.
02:27Okay.
02:29It just looks touchable.
02:33Look at this hat.
02:34Oh, wow.
02:35That looks cool.
02:38Oh, that looks...
02:39So this is part of textile art because it's out of material.
02:44Whoa, that's so cool.
02:46Oh, this is cool.
02:47Is that?
02:47That is very cool.
02:49Wait, why are some of those wires?
02:51Oh, that's what it's like.
02:53Oh, the base is about like...
02:55I've got some of those outfits, don't you?
02:57Right, right, right, right.
02:57Oh, they have two.
02:58Maybe the...
02:59Daddy.
03:00Yes, doll?
03:01Why are some of those wires?
03:03No.
03:04Oh, it's just spending the artwork.
03:06Poor Spencer.
03:06He's pushing the pram and he's facing away from the art.
03:09I need to show him the art.
03:11This is art, darling.
03:13Hey, Amity.
03:14Yeah?
03:15You're the...
03:16You're the art expert in the family.
03:18You are the art expert.
03:19You should be appreciating this.
03:20Your shadow looks so good.
03:23Your shadow looks so good.
03:24Your shadow looks so good.
03:26Oh, it does do.
03:28Shhhhhh.
03:28Look at that.
03:29It's like a job.
03:30The kids...
03:31The kids don't care.
03:33The kids don't care.
03:33The kids don't care.
03:34Now, please don't lose that.
03:34That's our key.
03:35Oh, right.
03:36We'll lose that, we won't be able to drive home.
03:37Okay, that's our key.
03:39Okay.
03:40Give it to me.
03:40Give it to me.
03:43Spence wants it back so I can try it.
03:45Because I want to walk back to the Quest Hotel in this heat.
03:49And get sunburned.
03:50No.
03:51He accidentally dropped it.
03:52This is lovely.
03:54Do you think this is like the baskets that they carry produce in and stuff?
03:58No.
03:58I think that's just...
03:59That's not just...
04:01Let's have a look at what it is.
04:03Hey, Dad.
04:03Hey, Dad.
04:04Why is textile art so weird?
04:07Like, why is it textile art everything?
04:10What do you mean by that, Sweety?
04:12Why textile art is a necessary material.
04:16It's like everything.
04:17Yeah, well, it's textile.
04:19So textile includes things like woven things, woolen things.
04:24Yeah, so it's not just statues or painting on...
04:28Yeah, like even straw things.
04:31Like, that's kind of straw.
04:32How...
04:33Surely everyone touches this.
04:35No.
04:35I see a string.
04:37Very nice.
04:37I see a string.
04:38Well, they shouldn't.
04:39Yeah, I can see.
04:40Oh, actually I've got a string.
04:42Yeah, I can see.
04:43What does it say?
04:45I can see.
04:47Website.
04:48Oh, here.
04:48Do you reckon this is textile art?
04:50They're talking about...
04:51They're talking about a website.
04:53I reckon you're allowed to touch sticks.
04:54I could genuinely think you're allowed to touch that.
04:55How do they know?
04:56What?
04:56Because they wouldn't have a piece of art on there.
05:00Please select a ball of yarn from the yarn supplies and knitting needles.
05:04What?
05:04Or crochet.
05:05It can be like...
05:06If you are new to your needle, please ensure they're between freedom and customer and...
05:12In other words, you can knit something.
05:13Do you want to sit there and knit something, darling?
05:14Oh, sure.
05:16So guests to the gallery have knitted this.
05:19Would you like this top, darling?
05:22I like that top.
05:23It says, see that website.
05:30Oh, it's a story.
05:32It's a story.
05:32Oh, see?
05:33So this piece here is comprised of these pieces here.
05:36Oh, that is...
05:38Do I have to do a square?
05:41Can I do a line?
05:42You can do a line.
05:43Yeah.
05:43And they'll eventually add it.
05:45They said that's...
05:45They said that's...
05:45Do I have to do a square?
05:46From three years worth.
05:47That is so cool.
05:50That is so cool.
05:52That's beautiful.
05:54That's beautiful.
05:54That's beautiful.
05:55That's beautiful.
05:55That's beautiful.
05:58Wow.
05:58They've put it together really well.
06:00Okay, sweetie.
06:01In this half of the gallery, which piece do you like the best?
06:05Uh, the one that...
06:07Oh, actually no.
06:08The floating one and the one that's...
06:10Yeah.
06:11Did you know that person there with the colour of it?
06:14No, she means the floating back one.
06:15Okay.
06:16I look for that.
06:17No, I look for that one.
06:19That one is the one.
06:19That one is the one.
06:20Oh, okay.
06:21Oh, yeah.
06:22Oh, yeah.
06:23Oh, that.
06:23It is lovely.
06:25That person there was a coloured little pack up there or something.
06:28Oh, what's your sister doing?
06:32Hey?
06:33Oh, yeah.
06:35Oh, I do want to feed, love.
06:37Hey?
06:37Oh, you're just wiping your nose on my arm.
06:39I think he's just wiping his nose on my arm.
06:42Oh, he's biting me.
06:44Love.
06:45You're a little animal.
06:48It's still biting.
06:50It's so bad.
06:52Oh, he doesn't bite that.
06:54Kids are so relaxing to take to an hour calorie.
06:56We are appreciating art.
07:03We are appreciating art, aren't we?
07:08That's funny.
07:09Isn't that funny?
07:11Oh.
07:12Your teeth are so sharp.
07:15How's your mission going, darling?
07:16Is there anything to cut the straw, mate?
07:18Probably have to use my teeth.
07:22You use your teeth.
07:23Okay.
07:32Look at that.
07:35Oh, beeline to the, beeline to the wall.
07:38Do you know, I suspected he wanted to touch the wall.
07:41Look, he can touch.
07:43He can touch the balls from the complete waste.
07:45Yes, actually, that is a very good idea.
07:47Oh, that was attached.
07:51That seems to be attached to the two.
07:53How about this one?
07:54This one?
07:54That one.
07:55This one should be in here.
07:57Yeah, it should be, actually.
07:58You're getting heavy.
07:59I nearly fell over holding you.
08:01Oops.
08:03Here you go.
08:04Oh, this is a great game.
08:05Dropping things and getting mummy or daddy or big sister to pick them up again.
08:10Oh, what an accident.
08:10He dropped it.
08:11We love this game, don't we?
08:14We love you, loons.
08:15Oh, what an accident.
08:16He dropped it.
08:17Look, this is textile.
08:18Oh, it's a spacer.
08:20And why couldn't this be a work of art?
08:23Look.
08:24Look.
08:25Do you know one of his first words was this?
08:28Now he's biting it.
08:28Oh, I know.
08:29Wasn't it?
08:29He says this.
08:30This.
08:31Because I think we say things like look at this or touch this and something.
08:37Oh, you're not normal.
08:40Oh, sweetie, you ought to put that in here.
08:42They can add it to their work.
08:43Don't.
08:44I would.
08:45I really would.
08:45Hey, where's the list of names?
08:49Because it says on here.
08:52Add your name to the list of participants if you wish
08:56and then place your work in the completed part.
08:58It might be near the desk, perhaps.
09:02Hey.
09:03Yeah, I'm not done.
09:06Here's you with all the walls.
09:08This is your kids' car.
09:09Darling, show me your fucking thing.
09:11Oh, definitely add it to the pile, love.
09:14Look, they've got little strings and bits hanging off it.
09:17They could even tie it on there or something.
09:19Oh, Spencer's emptying the basket.
09:22I don't know.
09:23Look.
09:23Now you can follow this bag.
09:25There we go.
09:27Well, we're very used to making up after Boss Baby.
09:32We've got Boss Baby.
09:33We bought Boss Baby with us.
09:35We've got Boss Baby.
09:38Thank you, love.
09:40Thank you, darling.
09:42What are other people going to use to do their knitting with?
09:46Hey.
09:47We're going to empty the whole basket.
09:51Now, how's it going to be when we finally take him away from this basket to appreciate the other artworks?
09:58Spencer likes this artwork.
10:02Hi.
10:04Pop these open.
10:06Just pop them back and they'll be there for other people.
10:11Hey, we want to share a little bit for the other people.
10:18He's taking that as quick as you're putting them in.
10:23I think I can beat him.
10:25I think I can beat him.
10:26I think I can beat him.
10:26I think I can beat a one-year-old.
10:29I'm having a competition.
10:32I think I am.
10:33I'm winning.
10:36I'm winning.
10:40I won.
10:47I think that's enough of that game.
10:49Okay.
10:49Okay.
10:49I'm winning.
10:50I'm winning.
10:51Oh, we've got one for legit.
10:55Spencer appreciates us a game.
10:58I know one.
11:01Good one.
11:03Alright, do you want to take one with us as we look around and then we'll come back and return
11:07it at the last minute?
11:08Yeah, good one.
11:08No, no, no.
11:09Oh, you can do another one.
11:12Yeah, do another one darling.
11:14Hopefully they'll add it when it's a bit small.
11:17I can tell that.
11:19I love it.
11:23So, baby's back in the pan.
11:29This is so nice.
11:30You actually can tell that it's on material.
11:32Like, this does not look like canvas, for sure.
11:35This is a piece of material.
11:37Isn't it?
11:37You could actually put that, like, say, mobile in the bed or something.
11:40It's so damn pizza touching.
11:42Well, don't.
11:43Oh, look.
11:46That's pretty.
11:47It's a shadow.
11:48Oh, yeah, that is nice.
11:51Look, this looks like an interesting texture too.
11:54I can't believe there's texture on you.
11:56You can't touch it.
11:57That's not one texture.
11:58I was going to say, that looks cool.
12:01That's a misshapen laundry basket.
12:04No, not that.
12:05That, I believe.
12:06That's art.
12:07Yeah.
12:09Yeah.
12:09Yes, I can see that.
12:12But why?
12:13Well, read the description.
12:15Have they put little ornaments in the...
12:19There's a lot of people to question the idea about collections and open up a dialogue around the assumptions of
12:25European colonial national ship there.
12:29Yeah, yeah.
12:29Oh, it's opening up a conversation about European colonisation, I think.
12:34Oh, now, this is so cool.
12:39So, what on earth...
12:40Go on the other side and see if you can hear me.
12:43This is awesome.
12:46Now, this is so cool.
12:48I just can't say how cool this is.
12:50Oh, I meant to swap sides.
12:52Okay, swap sides, better than that side.
12:53Oh, the breathing between us.
12:56Oh, wow.
12:57Okay.
12:58Do you have to breathe into it?
12:59No, you don't breathe into it.
13:02And it works.
13:03What's that?
13:04It does work.
13:05It does work.
13:07So, what do you say you're talking to?
13:11So, the artist is allowed to play it, but you're not.
13:13Wow.
13:15Wow, that's amazing.
13:17So, these are actually her lips.
13:20It's a marble brass, her brass lips.
13:23Yeah.
13:23But it does have a proper piece to go in there and to play it.
13:27You'll need someone here too.
13:29There's someone there as well.
13:33So, that was actually moving.
13:36They actually move and they actually work the valves.
13:39Looks like something out of Dr. Seuss.
13:41Are they valves from a bike or something?
13:44Or are they...
13:44A horn?
13:44I know, they're the real thing.
13:47It's...
13:47Every part of the instrument itself is real.
13:50Right?
13:51And she's covered it with felt and she's made felted lungs.
13:54That is...
13:55So, that's the lungs.
13:57And the heart.
13:58You know?
14:00But they're felted over the actual instrument.
14:03She's joined the instruments together.
14:05That is so cool.
14:09That is genuinely cool.
14:11And...
14:11That's one of the most awesome pieces of art.
14:14I think I've seen.
14:15Yeah, but I think we've got a film on our website on our YouTube channel.
14:19Oh, check it out for sure.
14:21Because we're YouTubers as well.
14:22Oh, we're getting some YouTube.
14:24Yeah, yeah, I will.
14:24I'll check it out.
14:25Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
14:26So, I think we're no longer in the textile section.
14:28Yeah, I was going to say.
14:29Is it still textile?
14:30No.
14:30It's not textile.
14:32It's a textile.
14:33No, I agree.
14:34No, it could still be textile art.
14:36But it's just in fact that I do think it's still textile art.
14:39Look, I think it might be textily canvas.
14:44Can canvas be a textile art?
14:47Well, it says it's on paper, so I don't think it's...
14:50Can canvas be a textile art?
14:53Mm-hmm.
14:58I'm blind.
14:59I'm blind.
15:02I'm blind.
15:05I'm blind.
15:09I'm blind.
15:10I'm blind.
15:18I'm blind.
15:20I'm blind.
15:22Oh boy, don't be silly.
15:25he's not like this.
15:26He loves that little bit boy.
15:29He loves playing with his sister son.
15:33He found that so fun.
15:35Where is the other?
15:37I think there's a little bit.
15:38Yes, yeah.
15:40What's this?
15:42It's a whip.
15:50That's a whip.
15:53You can tie it down as an office.
15:57Can I whip you?
15:59What's that, darling?
16:01Can I whip you?
16:02Are you starting a whip?
16:05Why did you fall away?
16:06I know, I wish I hadn't of.
16:08I think, I think she's going to show us some...
16:11Dad, there's muff in the frame.
16:13What's that?
16:14Yes.
16:15Wait, Mummy, there's muff in the frame.
16:17That's alright, actually, Amity is genuinely scared of us.
16:22Ew. Dad, get it out!
16:24Okay, okay.
16:26Eww.
16:28Stop it, I can't hold it.
16:30Show somebody, we're actually going to be showing something.
16:33Something unique.
16:34We're actually being taken out on that.
16:38So this is a work of art that's been made from rubbish.
16:42Oh, cool.
16:43That's washed up. Yeah, exactly.
16:44Yeah, you know this world that's caught in the ocean.
16:49Wow.
16:51Looks like rubbishies.
16:54Oh, this looks so cool.
16:55My little friend.
16:57Thank you so much.
16:58Oh, wow.
17:02Wow.
17:04Oh, look at that.
17:06That's amazing.
17:08Oh, that's it.
17:09Oh.
17:10It's a big shark with one long shark.
17:12So it's actually...
17:13And I can't pull him out because there's all this stuff.
17:16Wait there, let me see.
17:17That is heavy.
17:19That is...
17:19I won't know it.
17:20So I can pull him out a little bit this way.
17:24I just don't mean he has a lot of his slippers.
17:27So you can come and have a look here a bit.
17:29So everything is made out of the ocean as pollution.
17:34So fishing lines, the nets, even the wire and the piece of wood that holds the structure.
17:41So it's made by Sue Ryan and Ghost Nets Australia out of Cairns.
17:46And 10 Persination's artists actually also work with the weaving and the putting together.
17:53That is so awesome.
17:56Thank you so much for sharing us that.
17:59That is actually really special.
18:01Oh, that's...
18:01It's really quite amazing.
18:02It is amazing.
18:04It actually...
18:04If you see this business, you'd never guess that it's coming out of the ocean.
18:09Yeah.
18:09So they make a lot of things.
18:12So they also make turtles and camp dogs and all sorts of things.
18:15Why do you?
18:17So that's a real message, isn't it?
18:19That you can get the waste out of the ocean and then make...
18:22There shouldn't be any waste.
18:24So when we install him to show him, you see, he hovers above the ground like he was swimming.
18:28Oh.
18:28Because they're ground, on the ocean dwellers.
18:32Yeah.
18:33So no one ever sees underneath because he's always like he's swimming.
18:38And then he can't, so he looks like he's swimming and then he'll...
18:41So what sort of shark is he?
18:43Wobbygong.
18:44Oh, wobbly...
18:45Wobbygong.
18:46Wobbygong.
18:47Oh, wow.
18:47Oh, Spencer likes it.
18:48Spencer likes you.
18:50Yes.
18:50Wobbygong, eh?
18:51He likes the sound of wobbygong.
18:53Yeah, that sounds like it.
18:54Spencer likes it.
18:55They don't have teeth.
18:55They're not an overly big shark.
18:57Yeah.
18:58And they, they, because they, they just swim around with their mouth open and all these
19:02sort of stuff, all the plankton and all the stuff in.
19:05Yeah.
19:05Um, they don't really have teeth as such.
19:09Yeah.
19:09But, um, they can, of course, have the damage to produce that problem.
19:13Yeah.
19:14Yeah.
19:15Cool.
19:24I don't think they're that big.
19:26Yeah.
19:27Um, yeah.
19:28So this is another.
19:29It's also by the same arm as the leader, Johnson, who, um, circles everything and it's
19:39always, it's always some sort of musical.
19:41It's incredible.
19:41That is incredible.
19:43That is so beautiful.
19:45I'm just blown away to be seeing like behind the scenes of her.
19:48So do you rotate the art?
19:50Do you like, do you?
19:51No, no.
19:51Well, that's, that's the textile show is our major show.
19:55We do that around Australia.
19:56Oh, cool.
19:57Um, and that's, that's, um, and Gary too.
20:00They're two regional artists.
20:01Yeah.
20:02Um, so, but we do do collection shows.
20:04We'll be doing one next year, but we mainly have touring shows, but we'll always bring
20:08people into shows behind Becca House.
20:10Oh, wow.
20:11So does that tour?
20:12Is that the tour?
20:14But, um, it's, it's, it's here now for the.
20:18Yeah.
20:18Yeah.
20:20It must be, um, big deal packing up and sending it off.
20:24Yes.
20:25I'm just in the process of doing that for the next show.
20:28Oh, wow.
20:29Okay.
20:29Packing up.
20:30Yeah.
20:31Yeah.
20:31Yeah.
20:32It must be big.
20:33Oh, but like, how do you ship it in trucks?
20:35Look at that.
20:35Trucks and brakes.
20:36Trucks and brakes.
20:37That's neat.
20:37Yeah.
20:38Beautiful.
20:38And we also have other things.
20:41I could show you this.
20:42That's incredible.
20:43Um, because we, because we also sometimes collect music things.
20:48We've got this wonderful work from Jennifer and.
20:50Oh, cool.
20:51Patrick's truck.
20:52Patrick's truck.
20:53Sorry.
20:53From Newcastle.
20:55Called Buckhouse Orchestra.
20:56Oh, that is really cool.
20:58That is so cool.
21:01Oh, wow.
21:02And look at the work above it too.
21:03That's sandstone by civil law.
21:05That was made in 1976.
21:07And it's, uh, linen leather on wall.
21:10It's absolutely.
21:13And, yeah.
21:15It's a machine pottery.
21:17An applique.
21:18Oh, machine pottery.
21:20Yeah.
21:21And this is woven.
21:24That is.
21:25It's commissioned by a lady in Newcastle to be put across a fireplace.
21:29Oh, wow.
21:30Yeah, it's a very big fireplace.
21:32Yeah.
21:32And the artist was Euda Pedersen.
21:34The same lady who made the, um, Big Higgins in the Opera House.
21:38And Euda made it for it in 1978.
21:39And when she, the lady, and her husband and eldest son passed away, um, the family donated
21:47to our gallery.
21:48They needed to come up before she passed.
21:50Authenticated it.
21:51And it's not at the back of it.
21:54Because, um, because this is the, or the largest, or the largest, or the largest
21:57you need for whatever textile.
21:59Oh, it's off to the top of your cover.
22:00In Australia, isn't it?
22:02Well, we're the only gallery that's collected textiles continuously from 1973.
22:07And we do it, um, so that, that, it's a bit like the actual price.
22:12It's got to be made in the last, within that last exhibition space.
22:17Ah, I see.
22:17And we've just gone recently to, um, since 2006 back to open entry.
22:22So anyone could put a new entry in.
22:25Oh.
22:26An expression of interest.
22:27And then they get selected by a panel.
22:29So we're like, that's why it's 50 years of collecting.
22:32So the first piece come into the collection in 1973.
22:37How interesting.
22:39Yeah.
22:39And so you run this every...
22:41Every three years.
22:41Every three years.
22:43How interesting.
22:43So that will come down in 24 and we will, the one that's currently,
22:47Yeah.
22:47Out in the front gallery.
22:48Oh, right.
22:49We'll go to Adelaide, Breckham Hill, Missouri, Wild West, Spanley, Port Quarry, Grafton, Ipswich.
22:59How interesting.
23:01Did you ever come down to the Gold Coast?
23:03Um, some of our...
23:05No, I've got others.
23:07We had, um...
23:07Is that the way we are?
23:08The whole...
23:09The whole...
23:10The whole...
23:11The whole...
23:11The whole...
23:13The whole...
23:14The whole...
23:15The whole...
23:17The whole...
23:17The whole...
23:18Oh, wow.
23:20So that went down to, um, Sunshine Co...
23:22To the...
23:23University Gallery.
23:24Oh, wow.
23:25That's beautiful.
23:27But, yeah, we've wanted to get in there and they've wanted to get...
23:29Yeah.
23:29And sometimes programming in some places can be a bit fast.
23:33Yeah, yeah.
23:34Trying to program...
23:35Coordinate everything.
23:36Yeah.
23:36So...
23:37It's not always easy...
23:38What?
23:38To start three or four years out.
23:40Yeah.
23:40Which isn't even harder for the gallery's concern.
23:43Um, so...
23:44The next one will open entry in, um...
23:49We'll be up 23, 26, so we'll probably open entry within...
23:52Eight, eight months.
23:54How...
23:54Appalling for expressions of interest.
23:57How interesting.
23:58And get away onto the next one.
24:00So if the Hoda, because we're on the Gold Coast, if we actually overlook Hoda, like from
24:04We can...
24:05It's just across the bridge.
24:06If Hoda advertises the textile...
24:09Well, that's where it comes from.
24:10Yeah.
24:11Wow.
24:11That's so interesting.
24:13Yeah.
24:13Thank you so much for showing us out there.
24:15Is that okay?
24:16I've never seen...
24:17I've never seen...
24:17I've never seen...
24:17I've never seen...
24:19I've never seen...
24:20Oh, that's actually really interesting.
24:23Yeah.
24:23Well, very exciting.
24:26Thank you so much.
24:27Look at that.
24:29That's anyone else as well.
24:30That must be Hoda down here.
24:32That's lovely.
24:33And this is ours as well.
24:35Oh yeah, we need one of these.
24:43Well, that was such an awesome experience.
24:46It's not all that often that you actually go into an experience and you're not quite sure
24:50what to expect but it turns out heaps better than he expected.
24:53This was really, really worth visiting.
24:55And being taken out the back, that felt really special.
24:58Did you like being taken out the back?
25:00Yeah.
25:01That was really exciting to see behind the scenes of an art gallery and see all the artworks
25:05there in their frames.
25:06And yeah, that was so great.
25:08Just to see more about textile art and learn more about textile art.
25:11And I knew I was right.
25:13Paper can be a textile.
25:16And that was really cool.
25:17What did you think of it, darling?
25:18It was great.
25:19It was great.
25:20It was definitely worth visiting.
25:21And it's good that you contributed to that mural.
25:23It really is.
25:24I really like it.
25:25I think next time we're in Tamworth, we'll come and visit the gallery and see your contribution
25:30to that mural.
