And here she is! The most recognized and acclaimed face among all the Rubís.

The 2004 remake, produced by José Alberto Castro and starring the beautiful Bárbara Mori, is basically that highly celebrated remake that surpasses the original (and that almost everyone believes is the original).

But if you’ve been following this video series about every version of the telenovela Rubí, you already know all about the two versions that came before this one.

00:00A beautiful and extremely sensual woman, ready to break any moral barrier to escape poverty.
00:08But life throws a cruel trap in Ruby's path. She falls in love with a poor man.
00:15And here she is, the most famous and acclaimed face among all the Rubies.
00:21The 2004 remake, produced by Jose Alberto Castro and starring the stunning Barbara
00:28Mori, is basically that highly praised remake that surpasses the original. And almost everyone
00:34believes it is the original. But if you've been following this series of videos about
00:39every version of the telenovela Ruby, you already know everything about the two versions that came
00:45before this one. Without further delay, let's start talking about the Ruby that rose from the ashes
00:52after more than 30 years of this story sitting in oblivion. The narrator's voiceover in the first
00:58scene is very similar to the original telenovela from the 1960s.
01:03Ruby. As beautiful as she is perverse. What woman wouldn't want to be beautiful? And what man
01:10remains indifferent to the charms of a beautiful woman? But be careful. To you, woman. Let this
01:17serve as an example so that physical beauty does not erase the beauty of your soul. And you, as a
01:23man,
01:24first get to know the soul of the woman you are going to love. Right here we meet Paco, the
01:30lovesick
01:31fool, a character who doesn't exist in the earlier versions, just like many others that were added to
01:36this remake so the telenovela would have more dramatic arcs. Frankly, for me, this is a highly unnecessary and
01:46irritating character. I hold a grudge against him because he is basically the stereotype of fragile
01:53masculinity, traumatized by having a millionaire mother and stealing university scholarships from
01:59people who truly couldn't afford an elite university. The fact that his father was a male version of Ruby
02:07does not justify this behavior of his, honestly. What fault did his mother have that she had to suffer
02:15her son's distant behavior on top of having dealt with his toxic father? On top of everything, there's
02:21the aggravating factor of that goofy personality with negative charisma, which is another thing that
02:27stresses me out from the start. The rest of the university clique also only exists to pad the
02:33telenovela with subplots that nobody needs. But it's interesting to think that if Ruby had known Paco
02:40was an heir, her life would have been infinitely simpler, and she would have easily manipulated him
02:47into taking his place as a rich man without needing to cause greater damage. Only then the telenovela
02:54wouldn't happen, obviously. Ruby goes to study at the mansion of her rich friend Maribel,
03:00a character who becomes far more relevant starting with this remake. Before, she was basically a
03:07cardboard cutout meant to serve as the doormat for the evil protagonist, whereas in this version,
03:13she manages to evolve as a character and stays in the telenovela until the end.
03:19Another difference that is mainly due to the era of this remake is that the character's problem is
03:25caused by an accident in which she also lost her mother. As I said in the video about the first
03:31version, a telenovela about polio no longer made sense in 2004. Another thing that changed because
03:40of the time period is the means of communication between Maribel and her boyfriend, who is now called
03:46Hector instead of Cesar, and talks to his beloved by email. Nowadays, email wouldn't even make sense,
03:53and they would communicate through one of those dating apps people use to hook up with strangers
03:58and become victims of kidnapping scams.
04:03Regarding the heroine's character, in this first phase of the telenovela, she is still the same naive
04:10girl from the earlier versions, who blindly believes her supposed best friend and showers her with
04:16gifts. I just think she could have given a few more purses so Ruby would stop carrying that red bag
04:23she bought from a street vendor and never took out from under her arm. Maribel's nanny is another one
04:29who gets more spotlight and a stronger personality in this version. Pancha makes a point of insulting and
04:37needling Ruby whenever she has the chance, whereas the other nannies were more restrained,
04:43even because of the more rigid, subservient position they occupied. Has anyone noticed that Maribel lived
04:50in the same mansion as Maria la del Barrio? It was just the same outdoor garden area. An irrelevant detail,
04:58but one I couldn't help noticing. Ruby makes a sly face when she hears her friend's father complain
05:05that two million dollars is pocket change. But in this version, they didn't dare develop a
05:11storyline with Ruby trying to seduce that potential sugar daddy either. And the thing stops at that
05:18initial flirtation. Christina already enters the telenovela crying. The accounting assistant has just lost
05:25her job, with a salary that was so good she could practically support the household alone. On top of paying
05:3350% of her sister's tuition at an elite university. They must have paid accounting assistance very well
05:41in Mexico in 2004. Christina wants to hide the truth from their mother, who is in delicate health.
05:48That's why she starts pretending every day that she's going to work while she's actually looking for a job.
05:56Hector is an architect who is already literally building a solid career on his own, even though
06:02he has a godfather in the same field. In this version, they wanted to dramatize the character's arc. He no
06:10longer has living parents. Of course, he still didn't know how tragic his parents' love story had been.
06:18Hector was raised by his godparents, who also have a pretty messy story under the surface.
06:25In the first conversation between the Perez sisters, you can already feel the tension in their
06:30relationship. In my view, both felt envy of each other, but for different reasons.
06:37Bruby felt envy because she thought their mother preferred Christina, while Christina felt a certain
06:43envy of the opportunities and ease her sister had always had in life. But that was never said openly by
06:51the character. It's just my observation. Bruby is always demanding things from Christina, as if she
06:58had the responsibility of being the family provider and paying for everything she needed. The diva doesn't
07:04want to hear about working. After all, pretending to study was already too much effort.
07:10Let's face it, Bruby was that typical student who just held the poster board in group projects.
07:16I still don't understand how she managed to get a scholarship at a top university.
07:21I love the diva's cynicism when, upon learning her sister is unemployed, she blurts out,
07:27And how are you going to pay for my course now?
07:31And of course, in this version, we have the classic scene of the coffee pot that wasn't hot.
07:37This is the moment we see the mother and Ruby interact for the first time, also in the older
07:43versions, with the lady exposing her daughter's wickedness. The difference is that here the mother
07:49is another character who gains more importance and personality, being much harsher with the younger
07:55daughter. In the first telenovela, she has her moments to shine, but she doesn't get that much
08:02spotlight. And about the movie version, better not even comment, since the woman is an amoeba with two
08:09lines. And then he appears, Alejandro, the leading man of this story. A character who, to work in this
08:18version, had to go through about 50 pink filters to remove the filth of the original, who raised his
08:25hand to women and didn't take responsibility when he sent them to hell by accident. Incidentally,
08:31in the comic books that originated the telenovela, his plan was actually to kill Ruby. He only didn't
08:38succeed because she took her own life first as a proof of love for him. The 2004 Alejandro stays
08:45far away from that open sewer that the previous ones were, being a newly graduated doctor full of
08:53good intentions and definitely more naive than his predecessors. This Alejandro doesn't see who
09:01Ruby is right away, and falls for her like a perfect lovesick fool from the beginning.
09:06They also gave the doctor a family arc and his own personal tragedy to humanize him even more.
09:13From what I remember, the only moral lapse of this remake's Alejandro was sleeping with a married woman.
09:20I'm re-watching the telenovela while making this video, so if something more shady appears,
09:25will comment on it. I couldn't help being shocked by an ableist saying that comes out of Hector's mouth
09:31in a conversation with a friend. A talker falls faster than a cripple. Mercy people. And this when
09:41the guy was just moments away from discovering that Maribel is disabled. Either the writers lacked common
09:47sense, or some ill-intentioned person deliberately wanted to plant a very dubious seed.
09:54Right afterward comes the scene of Maribel confessing to Ruby that her boyfriend still
09:59doesn't know about her leg problem. And of course, Ruby takes the opportunity to play on her friend's
10:05insecurities. I reserve the right to say only the strictly necessary about Mrs. Lola, the typical
10:12unbearable neighbor who sticks her nose into everyone's business and exists solely to irritate us.
10:20Ruby is prevented from taking an exam at the university because she has three overdue tuition
10:25payments. And on top of that, the toxic professor announces it in front of the entire class.
10:32I had never noticed how the woman joined in the bullying of the rich students who said she didn't
10:37belong there and laughed. But the elitist's laughter wouldn't last long since Maribel asks her father
10:46to cover the remaining 50% of the scholarship that her friend can no longer pay. He does so,
10:53yet Ruby, that shameless snake, doesn't tell her mother or sister. In other words, the sister will keep
11:01struggling to pay off the university debt, while Ruby takes the hard-earned money to spend on other
11:08things. Ruby gets slapped for the first time when she tells her mother that the love and effort of
11:15her late father had been for nothing. In the first telenovela, the mother complained because Ruby was
11:22the father's favorite and that was why she had spoiled Christina more. Here we only know that Ruby's
11:29father was a taxi driver and poor, but apparently the younger daughter didn't have much appreciation
11:34or respect for the man's memory. And it seems she was also trying to send her mother to the grave,
11:40since she casually blurts out that her sister is unemployed and nearly causes the poor woman to have
11:46a seizure. Maribel tries to write about her problem to Hector, but can't bring herself to send the email.
11:55I think the option of letting him find out in person is risky, since he could pretend
12:00everything is fine and then abandon her later. In the original, she told the truth by letter,
12:08and the suitor didn't mind. But of course, this is just one of the many changes made to increase the
12:13drama of this remake even more. The next day, she goes to the airport to wait for her boyfriend,
12:21together with Ruby, and even goes so far as to ask Ruby to be the first to receive Hector and
12:27tell him
12:28the truth. Woman, please. Only, Ruby didn't suspect she was going to receive a pair of males to choose
12:37from. And as soon as the Mexican Ken lays eyes on the bombshell, he already makes that thirsty fool face.
12:44Let's agree that this guy was never a saint. But for now, he pretends to be an elevated human being,
12:51accepting Maribel's leg disability and making it clear that he didn't care about it because their
12:56love was greater than everything. Only, it wasn't Ruby who fulfilled the mission of telling the truth.
13:03She left the bomb in the lap of the person it belonged to. And here she was completely right.
13:08Where has it ever been seen that you ask your friend to reveal something to your boyfriend like
13:13a total coward? But Ruby being right is something that doesn't last long. As pretty as she was,
13:20she was pretty dumb. Unlike the original Ruby, she deduces that Alejandro is rich with just three pieces
13:28of information. A newly graduated doctor arriving from New York who was a friend of Maribel's rich
13:34boyfriend and shared an apartment with him in one of the best areas of Manhattan.
13:41My girl, you had to be as shameless as your predecessors and ask the man to his face if he
13:47had an inheritance in his name. First of all, being a doctor is not synonymous with being rich.
13:55Second, she herself, being a total poor girl, studied at an elite institution and lived hanging off a
14:03millionaire friend. If she had asked to live with Maribel without having to cover any costs,
14:09she would have accepted in two seconds. Why didn't she think Alejandro could also fit into those same
14:16situations? Because she was stupid. I'm sorry. We could even use the argument of plot convenience.
14:23But was it necessary for Ruby to believe Alejandro was rich in order to fall in love with him? No.
14:29After all, Teresa spent half the telenovela in love with Mariano and always knew he was a total broke
14:36guy who only owned one white tank top and two plaid shirts. The dinner night of the two couples is
14:43also
14:44very different in this version, since in the original, it served for Alejandro to completely despise Ruby.
14:50In this remake, it's the exact opposite. They romanticize and sensualize the interactions
14:57between the two to the extreme. By the way, many of those interactions ended up highly forced.
15:05At the airport, Ruby tripped over Alejandro two or three times, and on the dinner night,
15:11she simply falls into the pool and takes him with her. She makes a joke about having fallen like
15:18useless, crippled Maribel. And although Alejandro disapproves of the comment, he doesn't distance
15:26himself from her because of it or suspect that she was a snake. He is upset and uncomfortable,
15:31but that lasts very little. In the original, one malicious comment from Ruby was enough for him to
15:38close his face and decide she was worth less than a sack of manure. Remember the horse scene in the
15:44movie,
15:45when they were riding at the equestrian club? Ruby tries to run Maribel over with a horse and Alejandro
15:51saves her life? This is the version of that scene, only with him playing golf and Ruby not being a
15:58potential murderer. Couldn't she at least have tried to hit Maribel's head with the ball to give a
16:04little more adrenaline? But anyway, afterward the horse arrives and instead of fulfilling the hero's
16:12mission, he fulfills the one of the fool and boyfriend. Oh people, look at another sign that
16:18he's rich. The guy knows how to play golf. Can we already say Ruby wasn't stupid? I highly doubt it.
16:26I almost peed myself laughing when he gave her a planner as a gift. And before opening it, she asked
16:33if the planner was electronic. The shock he got should have been enough to wake both of them from that
16:38collective delusion. Oh, you're giving me the impression that money is all that matters to you.
16:46No kidding, my son. Now you were really clever. She still drops a comment that she expected an
16:55electronic planner because he could buy anything. That was the moment for him to say, no honey,
17:01I'm poor. And that's why I say these two amoebas were living a two-person delusion. And speaking of
17:10delusion, in a simply unbelievable scene, Maribel's father arrives at the golf course and gets outraged
17:17seeing his daughter practicing that extreme high-risk sport called golf. For the love of God, sir. A sport
17:24for tired, rich old men. And the man talks as if the girl were about to skydive. He even says
17:32she's already
17:33walked too much. I swear, another thing I didn't remember was that Maribel's father was so toxic. And in
17:41these moments, we see how, even without having much closeness with her yet, Alejandro was the best friend and
17:48ally Maribel could have, since he always told Ruby and Hector how important it was that she be
17:54motivated to do things and that she could have a normal life. Alejandro takes Ruby home and in a
18:01brief moment of lucidity, asks if she wouldn't go out with a poor man. She says no, and he answers
18:08that he wouldn't go out with a gold digger either. After that slap that I didn't even remember had
18:14happened, I can only conclude one thing. Ruby was indeed deceived by Alejandro. Or did she need to
18:23draw it for him? To understand that she didn't want to get involved with a man who wasn't rich.
18:29He knew that information, yet he still chose to ignore it and deceive himself while at the same time
18:37deceiving the sucker. Like when you make that bold purchase deceiving yourself and the bank.
18:43And then cry when the credit card bill arrives.
18:48And here, I'm not saying he did it out of malice, but because he was a big, deluded fool.
18:55Let's talk a little about Hector's godparents, two characters who were deepened in this version
19:00and who got their own dramatic arc. In the original telenovela, this godmother was basically a dog,
19:09from the little we saw of her. With just one look, she dismantled Ruby and sent her away through the
19:16service door. Mrs. Elisa, on the other hand, is a sweet, kind, and good woman. Yet she has no
19:24pushover either, and knew how to deliver her good slaps to Ruby in her moment. The big problem of the
19:30couple is this Mr. Genaro, a fifth-rate bigamist scoundrel. About to separate from his wife,
19:37he went back when his godson became an orphan, and they restored the marriage so they could give
19:43Hector a family. He just didn't want to leave his mistress and married her too, having the children
19:51he could never have with his first wife. Besides being that kind of wretched man, he was also ableist.
19:59Upon meeting Maribel, he is even against the marriage because he doubted she could have children.
20:05The man was also stupid because he thought women's uteruses were in their legs.
20:11The betrayed wife was always a good character, and sincerely didn't deserve to love that bag of garbage.
20:20She always stood by Maribel, even after all the betrayal by her godson,
20:25and was never ableist with the poor girl.
20:29The children from the clandestine marriage are Luis, another character with negative charisma,
20:35who, by one of those great soap opera coincidences, studies at the same university as Maribel and Ruby.
20:42And Natty, a girl so annoying and unbearable that she manages to fall in love with Paco when she becomes
20:49a teenager. Poor Christina continues her saga of sufferings and gives Ruby the severance money
20:55so she can pay the overdue tuition that she had already paid with Medibel's father's money.
21:01The money must have gone almost entirely to that designer dress where every ugly piece in the
21:07store must cost half a human kidney. The relationship between Ruby and Alejandro
21:13gets stronger when he treats her mother as a doctor after she has a bad episode because of her blood
21:19pressure problem. Alejandro passes the missions of monitoring Mrs. Refugio's health to Marcos,
21:26a resident friend in the cardiology area. Marcos, in turn, falls in love with Christina. And Christina,
21:34being a total idiot, falls in love with Cayetano, Medibel's driver. Another unbearable
21:41character in this telenovela, but anyway. And the big fool Alejandro manages to get a job and looks for
21:49an apartment in Mexico, all to stay close to the woman he well knows is a gold digger. The man
21:55is
21:55really not well in the head. Unlike his friend, who won a contest for a shopping mall construction
22:01project in the United States and now has to go back there as soon as possible.
22:08So as not to leave Maribel behind, they decide to hurry the wedding. This part is very similar to the
22:15original telenovela, except for the detail that Cesar was an engineer and not an architect. Alejandro's
22:23parents are the healthiest and cutest couple in this telenovela, without a doubt. Carla was a university
22:30professor and loved what she did, until little by little she started having memory losses.
22:36When things get serious to the point that she doesn't know how to get home, the Alzheimer's
22:42diagnosis arrives. Ignacio dedicates himself to caring for his wife with total devotion and affection,
22:50even having to reconquer her constantly every time she forgets him. Alejandro has a sister named
22:56Sofia, and I thought the casting of the Cardenas family was very good, because the actors really
23:03look like parents and children physically. Sofia is the family member with the least relevance,
23:10in her bland romance with Luis, the son from Genaro's clandestine marriage, or not so much,
23:18since we know that in reality, he is the son of Maribel's father. By the way, everything
23:24involving Luis's character is boring and dragged out. I don't even like to think about the phase when they
23:31made him fall in love with his own sister. But going back to the thread of the story,
23:37Ruby is looking for a bikini to go to Héctor's family's summer house with her now boyfriend, Alejandro.
23:44Since Maribel had complexes about her body, she didn't wear bikinis, and therefore,
23:51Ruby couldn't take her used butt rags. This scene kills me. Ruby finds a bikini that is too expensive,
23:59and throws it in the saleswoman's face, who curses her behind her back. There's no denying that,
24:06although ambitious, Ruby had no class. This scene, and the one when she embarrasses herself
24:13in the Cancun store buying furniture with Loreto, are true gems. She runs into Héctor in the shopping
24:20mall jewelry store, choosing Maribel's engagement ring. At least in this version, it wasn't him who was
24:27already wagging his tail at the homewrecker. Seriously. What the hell was Héctor trying to do
24:33when he let Maribel suffer that boat accident? I also would have had an accident if I had to climb
24:40onto that piece of junk from that distance. Alejandro grabbed Ruby by the waist and placed
24:46her neatly inside the boat like a total gentleman. Héctor, on the other hand, thought poor Maribel was going
24:54to jump like a frog to get onto the thing that was already out in the Indian Ocean. Notice how
25:01a real
25:02man picks up a woman with his strong arms. In case you haven't noticed from my thirsty comments, I find
25:09Alejandro more attractive than the Mexican Ken. I think having that extra sauce wins over being
25:17perfectly pretty, which is why many men end up more attractive than the pretty boy standards.
25:22And of course, personality also counts. The fact that Héctor is a complete piece of crap as a man
25:29doesn't help him. Frankly, I don't know how there are people who ship him with any woman in this
25:35telenovela. And in the middle of 2004, this telenovela was still forcing the romanticization of
25:42motherhood and criminalizing the free will of choosing not to have children. I already commented
25:48in the other videos about the pressure Ruby suffered to be a high-heeled incubator and how
25:54the telenovela used the fact that she rejected motherhood as one of the traits of her villainy.
25:59But it's a shame that in this 2004 remake, they continued forcing that in several ways. Including
26:07with that conversation between Elisa and Pancha, in which the godmother says she doesn't understand
26:13how women who are able to get pregnant can choose not to have children. As if that were a great
26:21affront.
26:22The fact that she couldn't have children doesn't mean she has the right to judge women who don't want
26:28to be mothers. Sincerely, what a huge setback and disservice. She still says she greatly admires women who
26:36work and even so choose to be mothers. Great ma'am. But you don't need to talk about the others
26:42as if
26:43they were the Grinch who stole Christmas. Not to mention, she took a piece of the sofa to make that
26:49outfit she's wearing. I found it tacky. Well, but this scene here was the one that made me start
26:56shipping Alejandro and Maribel. I know this couple has many haters who say that Alejandro never loved
27:02Maribel. But that wasn't even the problem. The telenovela's mistake was how they developed the
27:08two of them's story, since they diverted both of their paths to get involved with other characters,
27:14and then rushed to make the doctor fall in love with his best friend.
27:19That's why many don't believe in the man's love. The development was botched. But even so,
27:26you can't ignore the cuteness of the friends who suffer together and end up falling in love. Before
27:32they united through suffering, the friendship had already begun to blossom from here.
27:38Basically, Alejandro says that the boat accident could have happened to anyone and that she shouldn't
27:43blame herself. Maribel had an enormous urge to prove herself healthy and capable so that Hector
27:52wouldn't get tired of her. That relationship already started completely messed up and wasn't good
27:58for Maribel. With Alejandro, on the other hand, she always felt comfortable opening up and surpassing
28:04herself. And the final proof is here, when Hector says he's not going to expose Maribel anymore to
28:10things she can't do, and that her overprotective father was right. The guy had zero tact for living with a
28:18disabled person. The problem was that Maribel had never had the opportunity to learn a series of
28:25things, precisely because she had always been raised inside a bubble by that clueless old man.
28:31And for now, Alejandro continues deceiving himself and getting involved with Ruby. He asks, hypothetically,
28:38if she would love him the same way if he didn't have money. But he isn't direct with her,
28:43laying his cards on the table and revealing himself as a poor man on the rise. In short,
28:50he knew very well what he was doing, testing Ruby instead of being truly honest and saying he didn't
28:56have two cents in his wallet. He denied her the right to choose without a blindfold over her eyes.
29:04And she did have the right to be a big gold-digging tramp. There are several things from the first
29:10phase
29:10of this telenovela that I didn't remember, because whenever I watch it again I start from the point
29:15when Maribel is left at the altar. And one of them was that at the beginning, Christina was indeed
29:21interested in Marcos. She even posed to attract the man. How many problems she would have avoided for
29:29herself if she had stayed interested in the right man instead of deciding to sleep with Cayetano in public
29:35spaces in broad daylight? Finishing turning my stomach once and for all,
29:41Hector's disgusting godfather says that Maribel is a cripple and advises his godson not to marry her,
29:48because when you had a partner with something missing, infidelity was the right path.
29:55Notice that here he's talking about himself, that bigamist scoundrel. Another one who's revealing
30:01himself as the fine piece of crap he is is the fiancé, who asks Alejandro,
30:07and what if my godfather is right? It's just that I don't know if she'll be able to have children.
30:12With every reason, Alejandro gets outraged. Sincerely, both the godfather and the godson were
30:20two floating turds. Meanwhile, Maribel starts doing physical therapy to be able to walk down the aisle.
30:27Completely wrong motivation, but at least it served as an incentive. And by coincidence,
30:34the doctor ends up being Alejandro himself. He is also going to replace her prosthesis for a better
30:40one. Sincerely, I can't buy that a millionaire would have neglected his daughter this way. She
30:47didn't even have an orthopedist since the previous one had left the country.
30:52And Hector, despite his dark age-level doubts, continues with the plans to get married even
30:58though his godfather is against it. Arturo gives a vote of confidence to his daughter's fiancé
31:05upon understanding that he is going against his godfather's will and accepts the marriage. At the
31:11hospital, Alejandro plays dumb with his friend Marcos when the latter tells him that Cristina believed he
31:17had a lot of money. Alejandro seems not to understand where his sister-in-law got that idea.
31:24I don't know, maybe because you never told your girlfriend to her face that you're poor?
31:29One thing is to keep asking, would you still love me if I didn't have money? And another is to
31:35say
31:35in so many words that you don't have money. Notice that the use of, if I didn't have, suggests that
31:42he
31:42does have it and is painting a hypothetical scenario. But now Ruby's house of cards collapses like a
31:48sandcastle on the beach. Maribel's father is the one chosen to reveal the truth that this little
31:55idiot failed to see. My girl, your man is poor. Of course he didn't make the comment with that
32:03intention, but rather to praise a hard-working poor man. But the man threw the shit at the fan anyway.
32:12Oh, but he studied in New York. Oh, hon, don't be so naive. The same way you study on a
32:18scholarship
32:19and at other people's expense, right? The name for that is underdog syndrome,
32:24that glamorizes everything related to the United States. But anyway, of course when Alejandro invites
32:31his partner to see the future love nest, he gets a solid slap right in the middle of his face.
32:39Will he wake up now? Well, Alejandro's argument was that when he tried to talk more about his
32:46reality, Ruby said that what she already knew about him was enough. But I insist that he preferred to
32:53deceive himself, because she had already said in so many words that she didn't want a poor man.
32:59He would have had to insist and tell the truth, because deep down, he knew that if she answered
33:05that way, it was with the preconceived idea that he was rich. My love, your ambition blinded you,
33:13he says. Even seeing that his girlfriend is a gold digger, he insists on humiliating himself and almost
33:21gets on his knees to ask them to grow together in life. But Ruby, the poster board holder in school
33:27projects, is not willing to lift a finger to build anything. She demands to arrive and eat the
33:34banquet already served on the table. And the pleas and promises of a better future don't soften Ruby's
33:41heart. Ruby says she would never go out with a starveling like him, rips the cheap little bracelet
33:47he gave her, and throws it at the man's feet. Frankly, after that, a person with two percent
33:54of dignity would never look even at the white of their offender's eyes again. But Alejandro was quite
34:00dumb, as we well know. And now a moment of pure second-hand embarrassment. The nanny of a grown woman
34:08offering to go with her to New York, getting in the way of the beginning of a life as a
34:13couple.
34:13That Pancho was a total freeloader. I'm sorry. How do you offer yourself like that to stick
34:20yourself into other people's house? Wait for an invitation, ma'am. And speaking of problematic
34:26ladies, the fainting spells of this mother of rubies are always opening doors for her to get closer to
34:32the men. The silver hero of the moment is Mexican Ken, who comes to the rescue of the poor, hypertensive
34:41woman when she faints upon discovering for the hundredth time that her daughter is a gold digger.
34:46Already disillusioned with her poor hero, Ruby will now do everything to conquer the rich jackass.
34:53And she will need to act fast, since he has a trip and a wedding scheduled.
34:59Ah, now yes, Alejandro is admitting his share of the blame for not having told his gold digger
35:06girlfriend in so many words that he was just a broke guy without fortune.
35:11I could have said I wasn't rich. I played the fool, said the fool.
35:17Ruby, as evil as only the devil in skirts could be,
35:22starts planting little seeds of insecurity in her already insecure friend.
35:27Things she can perfectly pretend are proofs of friendship, such as revealing that she was the
35:33one who chose Maribel's engagement ring, or that the groom's godfather didn't accept her because of
35:39her leg disability. And now I was shocked by another detail I didn't remember. To Maribel,
35:45Ruby said she broke up with Alejandro because he pretended to be rich, even though she didn't care
35:50about that. In other words, she lied that she broke up because she was offended by the lie.
35:58But she goes so far as to also say that she even got scared of her ex's passionate impulses.
36:05Translating. I was afraid he might end up abusing me.
36:11Dear Ruby, you are truly subterranean. And now a blooper. In a flashback of the accident of Maribel's
36:19family, the mother was the same actress as her, Jacqueline Bracamontes. In the photo,
36:25it was some random other woman. I'm not going to pretend I didn't see that embarrassment.
36:31Well, but the masterstroke of the homewrecker of homewreckers was starting to work as secretary
36:37to the sucker architect, using the excuse of paying in some way for Ector having covered the
36:42costs of her mother's hospitalization. On the other hand, the fool Alejandro is making
36:49a point of paying that debt of the ex who broke the beaded bracelet he gave her,
36:54and the tension between the little males starts to grow.
36:57As if they were in a championship of catching suckers, the friends compete to see who has more
37:03right to pay for the cardiac lady's hospitalization and argue about whether Ruby is or isn't a gold
37:09digger. The Mexican Ken guarantees she isn't because he knows her very well. Besides, if that were the
37:16case, she wouldn't want to work for him to pay the debt.
37:20This one is really smart, as you can see. Alejandro has already figured out the game of the shameless
37:27homewrecker, but that doesn't mean he's going to stop being a sucker. Little by little, Ruby was
37:33getting closer and seducing the weak one. Maribel continued completely blind, even though she felt her
37:39best friend and her fiancé more distant. Alejandro meets Victoria, Paco's rich mother, at an orthopedics
37:47congress. She has a leg disability and is going to invest in a project in which the doctor will
37:53participate together with his immediate boss, the demonic Santa Claus, Dr. Bermudez. I don't know why,
38:00but that scene in which they meet gives off a, I want to be your sugar mommy, vibe.
38:06But the telenovela didn't take that plot further, even though it seemed to flirt with the idea
38:12briefly. Exactly like the scene in which Ruby meets Maribel's father. The middle-aged characters
38:18didn't get the chance to have their protégés, unfortunately. Alejandro is already realizing that
38:25his mentor is a big crook who doesn't give credit to other professionals. What he doesn't know is that
38:30he's still going to get into a big mess because of that devilish gentleman.
38:36And speaking of absolute scoundrels, another one who is making discoveries about them is Ruby.
38:42As secretary to the Mexican Ken, she takes advantage of her sneaky skills to investigate
38:47strange things she notices about the secretary of the construction company owner. This shameless
38:53lady covers for the bigamist. And Ruby ends up discovering the hidden dirty dealings. And of course,
38:59she will use that information when it's convenient. Meanwhile, the filthy man harms his son Luis's life
39:07by opposing his relationship with Sofia upon realizing that she was Alejandro's sister.
39:13He refuses to accept his son's girlfriend without giving greater explanations. This piece of crap only
39:20cares about hiding his schemes, harming everyone involved. Another new character in this version
39:27who hides the shenanigans of homewreckers and the like is Loretto, a stylist who takes a liking to Ruby
39:33and becomes her confidant simply because she is pretty. This is the first Ruby who has someone
39:39to share her dirty deeds with. And I didn't remember. But isn't it true that in this version,
39:45there's also that ridiculous plot of Ruby going out with Hector to buy Maribel's trousseau.
39:51I remembered it had been only a dress. But no. Anyway, that doesn't make sense in any version.
40:00Ruby's body is not Maribel's body, so why would she be this idiot's private model?
40:06It wasn't even necessary to keep that, since in this version, Ruby was already close to the architect
40:12as his secretary. Well, but the shit is already formed, and these two traitors are already putting
40:18horns on poor Maribel's head. It's simply disgusting to see Hector making a bored face
40:24while Maribel tries to share the wedding things with him. I have 0% empathy for that evil Ken,
40:31sincerely. Every misfortune that fell on his head was well deserved. I must say that Alejandro is one
40:39of the biggest pushovers I've ever seen when it comes to humiliating himself for love. Even after
40:45everything the evil witch Ruby did, stepping on him like a hard-shelled cockroach, he kept insisting
40:53that she change. Yet the ambition was much greater. That's why she continues her routine of secret
41:00make-outs with the traitor architect. Hector even tries to back out, resist the temptation, and continue
41:10with the plans to marry Maribel. But Ruby applies several strategies to catch suckers on the man,
41:17such as provoking jealousy at the expense of two fools, Alejandro and Paco. She goes so far as to
41:24get back together with Alejandro to mess with Hector's head, and force him to make the decision she wanted.
41:31Well, after a hard job of seduction and manipulation, Ruby achieves her objectives,
41:37and poor Maribel is left at the church like a wilted vegetable at the end of the market.
41:43We still have a lot to talk about regarding the 2004 version of the telenovela Ruby. Don't forget
41:51to subscribe to the channel so you don't miss the next parts of this series about the biggest,
41:56shameless homewrecker in the history of Mexican telenovelas.
42:00we'll see you then.
42:00bye
