In this first video, we'll summarize everything about the first version of the Mexican telenovela Rubí!

Released in 1968, this is the Rubí closest to the comic strip by Yolanda Vargas Dulché, which was published in the magazine "Risos, Lágrimas e Amor" (Laughter, Tears and Love).

Produced by the renowned Valentín Pimstein and starring Fanny Cano, the first version was broadcast by Televisa when it was still called "Telesistema Mexicano" and was taking its first steps, born from radio.

Incidentally, telenovelas from that era always had a narration at the beginning, very similar to radio dramas, which introduced the story.

In Rubí, the narration we hear is as follows:

"Rubí, as beautiful as she is wicked.
Don't expect to find in this story the sweetness and charm you might wish to see for entertainment.

If you want to feel in your heart the same bitterness that a woman provoked in those around her, pay attention to this story.

You, woman, can use it as an example to prevent your physical beauty from overshadowing your moral beauty.

And you, man: beware of red lips and fascinating glances.
First, get to know the soul of the woman you are to love."

00:00Released in 1968, this is the ruby closest to the comic book story by Yolanda Vargas Dulce, produced by the
00:09renowned Valentin Piemstein and starring Fanny Cano.
00:13The first version was broadcast by Televisa, at a time when it was still called Telesistema Mexicano and was taking
00:21its first steps, born from radio.
00:25The voiceover we hear is as follows.
00:28Ruby, as beautiful as she is wicked, do not expect to find in this story the sweetness and charm you
00:37would like to see for distraction.
00:39If you want to feel in your heart the same bitterness that a woman caused in those around her, pay
00:46attention to this story.
00:47You, woman, can use it as an example to prevent your physical beauty from erasing your moral beauty.
00:55And you, man, beware of red lips and fascinating gazes.
01:00The mother calls Ruby to have coffee while she gets ready in front of the mirror.
01:05She shows her legs to the camera and breaks the fourth wall, promising that she will soon be free.
01:12The breakfast scene is basically the same as the one we saw in the 2004 version, a hard-working and
01:19self-sacrificing Christina and a mocking, rebellious Ruby who spills coffee on her sister's new dress out of envy.
01:28Ruby does not speak with contempt of her late father.
01:31On the contrary, she was his favorite daughter.
01:35Ruby and Maribel were in preparatory school, and the friend excitedly recounts that she received a letter from Caesar, who
01:44would be Ector in the other versions.
01:46Of course, in those days, they corresponded by letter and not by email.
01:51An interesting curiosity is that Maribel had a cousin named Raoul, and it was through him that she and Caesar
01:59began corresponding by letter.
02:01Who remembers Aurora's cousin, Raoul, in the 1980s version of Teresa?
02:07I suspect this was a source of inspiration for the cult remake of The Other Social Climber, released 20 years
02:14later.
02:15Ruby raises her Machiavellian eyebrows upon hearing that Caesar's father is a major rancher with many head of cattle.
02:24She asks her friend if she has already told her suitor that she was very ill as a child.
02:30In this version, Maribel's leg problem was a sequela of polio.
02:35In the remakes, because of the eradication of the disease, that no longer made sense, and for that reason, I
02:43think they changed it to an accident.
02:46Ruby tells her friend that she does not want to study, but rather marry a rich husband.
02:52Ruby convinces Maribel to write to Caesar revealing her leg problem before they meet.
02:58But Caesar did not care, and called her insecurity something small compared to their love.
03:05He seems like the perfect man, doesn't he?
03:08But as we well know, it was not quite like that.
03:12They would meet in person in ten days.
03:15The one who disliked all this was Ruby, who in addition to feeling envy of her friend's rich suitor,
03:23also felt ashamed to walk with her in the street.
03:26One of the school teachers scolds Ruby for having left Maribel alone to catch a bus,
03:32because that day the driver could not pick her up.
03:35Every day, Ruby took advantage of her friend's chauffeur service.
03:39But when it came to walking with her in the street and helping her catch a bus, the story was
03:45different.
03:46On the day of Caesar's arrival, Ruby leaves her sick mother alone in bed to accompany Maribel to the airport.
03:52In the first conversation between Caesar and Alejandro,
03:56the doctor complains that he does not have the money to open a private practice.
04:00Caesar reminds him that he already has a guaranteed position in another doctor's office.
04:05When the friends disembarked, they were being waited for by Maribel, her father, and Ruby.
04:10Caesar says he is the only male son and that, for that reason, his father had high expectations of him.
04:16He has a godfather in Mexico who is also an engineer.
04:20Alejandro, for his part, has no family, only two married sisters who live far away.
04:26Ruby asks Caesar for a cigarette, saying it was time to learn to smoke.
04:30They were the times of the glamorization of cigarettes, and no one even talked about the damage the addiction caused.
04:36Right in that first conversation, Ruby asks if Alejandro is an heir, and he makes it clear that he is
04:42not,
04:43that he graduated on a full scholarship.
04:45And here, the 2004 version looks even dumber, since she spent all that time without making sure the man had
04:51two cents to his name.
04:53This left a very bad impression on Alejandro, and later he comments to Caesar that Ruby was an unpleasant person.
05:02Caesar is in a hurry to marry Maribel and already proposes the next day.
05:07They set a deadline of one month for the wedding, and right afterward they would go to live in New
05:12York for at least four years.
05:14Alejandro begins to notice from the start that Ruby shows too much interest in her heir friend.
05:20He has already gotten his job in Mexico as a doctor, and that was the only marriage he was thinking
05:25about, the one with his career.
05:28Only that night they went to celebrate Maribel and Caesar's engagement without Ruby knowing that Alejandro was also going.
05:35Her plans were already to throw herself at her friend's fiancé, whom she considered unworthy of such luck.
05:42During a dance that night, Alejandro tells Ruby to her face that she is bad.
05:47She answers that it is none of his business.
05:50Moments later, Ruby dances with her friend's fiancé and flirts with him shamelessly.
05:57Ruby takes the opportunity to begin creating a series of intrigues between Caesar and Alejandro,
06:03the enemy she knew could ruin her plans.
06:05Since Alejandro was the only one who saw her as she really was, Ruby would try to destroy all his
06:11credibility.
06:12And the first intrigue was to tell Caesar that the doctor had said to her that Caesar might get tired
06:18of a sick wife.
06:21Since this Caesar is quite stupid and manipulable, something we have already seen with his 2004 Ken doll version,
06:28he believes a stranger he has just met more than his friend of many years.
06:33She also says that Alejandro is blatantly hitting on her, which is bothering her a great deal.
06:39Caesar always invites Ruby to go out with him and Maribel, as if she were a keychain.
06:44She plays her million-dollar card by offering to help the engineer buy all the Maribel's trousseau,
06:50and she took advantage of modeling the clothes that were meant for the bride.
06:56Caesar began canceling his meetings with Maribel, inventing lies, in order to spend more time with Ruby.
07:03Well, the inevitable happens, and Caesar falls in love with Ruby.
07:07He declares himself to her, but she plays dumb, saying she could never betray Maribel.
07:12Cesar says for him, only Ruby matters.
07:15The engineer blames destiny for his own wickedness.
07:19He tells Maribel that he needs to go see his parents, and she shows herself understanding.
07:24The deceived fiancé complains that Ruby has disappeared, and doesn't even answer her calls.
07:30Alejandro had gone to visit his sisters out of town.
07:32That is why all this happened without him being able to intervene.
07:36But when he hears from the mouth of his own spineless friend that he is in love with Ruby,
07:41Alejandro tries to convince him to forget Ruby, and continue with the plans to marry Maribel and leave the country.
07:48Alejandro wanted to protect Maribel and destroy Ruby.
07:52The doctor insists that Ruby is bad, and that she seduced him on purpose.
07:57After five days without being sought out, Ruby was already desperate.
08:02Caesar had decided to listen to his friend's advice and forget Ruby.
08:07But she would not give up so easily, and resolves to leave a message arranging a meeting.
08:12The message ends up in Alejandro's hands, and he decides to go to the meeting in his friend's place.
08:18Alejandro is completely sarcastic with Ruby, inventing that he was sent by his friend to thank her for all her
08:24help in buying the trousseau.
08:26But Ruby believes nothing.
08:28Her self-confidence was far too great.
08:32Cunning and clever, as always, Ruby goes to check the facts by paying a visit to Maribel.
08:37She finds out that instead of being postponed, the wedding has been moved forward and will take place in six
08:43days.
08:44The naive Maribel even invites Ruby to be her maid of honor, promising her even the dress.
08:50Maribel's nanny mocks Ruby, rubbing the shameless woman's face that her girl is going to get married,
08:56and Ruby is not, despite all that beauty.
08:59Now the challenge was truly thrown down, wasn't it?
09:03As if she didn't already have enough reasons to steal the other's fiancée.
09:07Now it was a matter of honor.
09:09She went to wait for César at the office, but Alejandro arrived first, and they argued.
09:14The doctor tried to offer Ruby a bribe to disappear, but she laughed in the poor man's face.
09:20The doctor comes to arguing with Ruby and tries to force her out of the office.
09:24At that moment, César arrives, and Ruby invents that Alejandro was trying to force himself on her.
09:31And, proving once again to be the biggest fool in this soap opera, César believes Ruby and the friendship between
09:38him and Alejandro goes to hell.
09:41Maribel also arrives at that moment, and Alejandro tries to stop her from going up, but without success.
09:47The elevator was under maintenance, and after climbing five flights of stairs, she sees her fiancée declaring himself to Ruby
09:55and kissing her.
09:56On the silent way down, Alejandro finds her halfway and supports her.
10:01Well, at least this one was less humiliated than her successors, since she was not abandoned at the altar in
10:08front of everyone.
10:11Ruby's mother finds out because she goes to visit Maribel, and the nanny tells her what happened.
10:16Already at home, she unmasks her daughter, but Ruby plays the lovesick innocent.
10:21The mother warns that César is not a trustworthy man, and Ruby answers that he had only felt pity for
10:27Maribel.
10:28Mrs. Refugio asks her daughter to think about the children she will one day have, and when Ruby says she
10:34will never have children, it seems as if she said she was planning to cause the apocalypse on Earth.
10:39I find it funny that it was this declaration of the daughters that almost sent Mrs. Refugio to the afterlife.
10:45Well, if even today a woman is judged for not wanting to be a mother, imagine in those days.
10:51In this version, Ruby and César also run away together like two cowardly rats, but to New York and not
10:58to Cancun.
10:59This César is a coward at such a hardcore level that when he goes to speak with his godparents, he
11:05pretends he is still going to marry Maribel, and that he is going to New York alone to settle some
11:10things.
11:11And the one left with the mission of opening his godmother's eyes is Maribel, who, in addition to being abandoned,
11:17still has to clarify the family messes the wretch left behind.
11:21The sop opera shows us the couple living their honeymoon in New York, marriage duly formalized with a glamorous blonde
11:28ruby full of jewels that weigh more than she does.
11:31Meanwhile, in Mexico, Maribel remains depressed.
11:35She and her father were spending a few days at their house in Cornavaca, and Alexandro goes to fetch Maribel
11:41to offer her support and friendship.
11:43In the original story, they do not go beyond that. Maribel does not fall in love with Alexandro, nor he,
11:49with Maribel.
11:50Maribel. Alexandro helps his friend leave her mourning with the idea of operating on her leg and motivating her to
11:57return to living.
11:58He invites her to help at the clinic where he works as a volunteer.
12:02Two months have passed, and while Maribel works, Ruby joins other trophy wives to play cards and spends her husband's
12:09money on works of art she does not understand, but knows are expensive, and that's enough for her.
12:15Cesar's parents are visiting them in New York, and the father-in-law complains because he understands nothing of what
12:21is written in the American newspapers.
12:22This gentleman is a true country bumpkin, and believe it or not, only on this visit do the parents of
12:29the cowardly traitor find out that he is not married to Maribel, but to Ruby.
12:34The parents almost fall over backward upon learning that they are married only civilly, and insist on a church wedding.
12:41Ruby does not want to marry in church or have children, and everyone finds this absurd.
12:46In Mexico, Ruby's family was suffering.
12:49Cristina wept over the imminent loss of her mother given up by the doctor.
12:53They do not count on Alexandro, since in this version, his approach to Ruby never happened.
12:59Nor does the tiresome Cayetano the poor Cristina have in this version, and she is completely alone in the misfortune.
13:06Cristina pretends that Ruby wrote a letter asking for forgiveness, to give some consolation to her mother in a vegetative
13:13state.
13:13The mother dies moments later.
13:16Cristina sends a letter informing Ruby, together with a check that she had sent, in an attempt to buy the
13:22family's forgiveness.
13:23The reaction of Ruby upon reading the letter in which her sister rejected her and wished that karma would strike
13:29her, is cold and stoic.
13:32Cesar is shocked when his wife does not cancel the party they were to give that same night, affirming that
13:37there were no reasons.
13:38The foolish husband begins to worry, remembering Alexandro's words saying that Ruby was bad.
13:44On top of that, his father stopped sending him money, and the wife pressures him to demand his rights.
13:51Cesar says he has no right to any fruit of the ranch, because he never worked on it, and Ruby
13:56disagrees, because he is the only male heir.
13:59Well, I disagree with the part about him having rights for being a man, but the part about being an
14:04heir is true, right?
14:05To the sadness of Ruby, the old man was still very much alive, and an inheritance could only be claimed
14:12after death.
14:13For his part, Cesar pressures to have a child and for them to move to a smaller house.
14:18Ruby says she does not want to have children, and that she is far too young to ruin her body
14:23and her life.
14:24So I married a mannequin and not a woman.
14:27Look at the head of this imbecile macho, frankly.
14:30Either you are a high-heeled incubator or you are not a woman.
14:34The indignant little macho begins to feel back pains and wants his wife to stop giving the parties he detests.
14:41Ruby tries to calm her husband's anger, but mentally curses the wretch to the tenth generation.
14:46A silly doctor friend of Alexandro fell in love with Maribel.
14:50He went to ask her father for her hand and almost completely soiled himself, but managed to fulfill the mission.
14:57A year passes and now, while Maribel gets married, Cesar grows more and more ill in the spine and Ruby
15:04more bankrupt.
15:05Ashamed of her new upper-middle-class apartment, Ruby lies to her elite friends saying her new mansion is being
15:12renovated.
15:13Cesar is already in debt to fulfill his wife's whims and only sinks deeper into the mess.
15:19Two more years pass and they will have to leave the life in New York and return to Mexico, and
15:24they will find Alexandro as a prestigious surgeon, now director and owner of a clinic.
15:30The doctor who attends Cesar recommends him as the perfect specialist to take care of his case.
15:36Ruby goes to visit Alexandro alone, already with the intention of hooking one who was better off than her husband.
15:43She uses her husband's illness as an excuse, promising that she will keep her distance, but even so, Alexandro refuses
15:51at first to fulfill his physician's oath because of the resentment he held against the friend who refused to believe
15:57him.
15:57Not even Cesar's godfather wanted anything to do with them, and Ruby saw herself with no way out.
16:03What would she do with a husband on the verge of bankruptcy who now, on top of everything, no longer
16:09even had the health to provide her luxuries?
16:12But Alejandro's conscience tormented him, and he ends up going to visit his sick friend.
16:17A repentant and tormented Cesar asks for forgiveness.
16:21He says he has been punished by life and asks about Maribel.
16:24He is happy to learn that she got married and asks if his friend operated on her.
16:29Alejandro answers that he did not because the husband did not want it.
16:32He made a point of saying that he did not care about Maribel's leg problem.
16:38What do you think of this beautiful proof of love that prevents a woman from overcoming a physical problem because
16:44the husband is fine with it?
16:45A load of crap, right?
16:47But anyway, they are living in Chile and already have a son.
16:52Alejandro examines the poor wretch who begs for forgiveness and help.
16:56Even though he is in eminence, Alejandro has difficulty diagnosing Cesar's progressive paralysis.
17:01He will need to be hospitalized for a time.
17:04Only with that, Ruby's proximity would be inevitable.
17:08She begins to pursue the doctor playing the repentant innocent.
17:12And in a ridiculous scene, the hospital director lights a cigarette in his office.
17:18Alejandro imposes as a condition for treating Cesar that Ruby not set foot in the clinic again.
17:24Ruby is not shaken at being expelled from the clinic and continues more shameless than ever.
17:29While he deteriorates more and more, Cesar torments himself with the great chances he has of becoming a cuckold.
17:36He tells Alejandro that he will die if he loses his gold-digging wife.
17:40On one of the wife's visits, Cesar gossips that he has noticed that the nurse, Eloisa, is in love with
17:45Alejandro,
17:46which sets off a red alert in Ruby's cunning little head.
17:53Ruby continues playing cards with her elite friends and prospecting new victims.
17:57The friends say that there are already more than four with their eyes on the diva.
18:03The men always see Ruby alone at the gambling house, and for that reason, they think she is single.
18:09Until one fine day, one of Alejandro's medical colleagues almost forces an invitation for him to accompany him to the
18:15same place frequented by Ruby.
18:19A great and unfortunate coincidence for the doctor who fled from her like Frey Maltos in the miniseries Hilda Hurricane.
18:27Ruby boasts of having brought the doctor good luck since she sat at the table he began winning at roulette
18:32non-stop.
18:33He gets irritated and leaves, but Ruby does not surrender in face of her target's constant rejections.
18:39I cannot help commenting that the hospital director not only smokes in his office, but has a portrait of himself
18:45on his desk, doing what? Smoking.
18:50Meanwhile, Cesar is already completely unhinged in his hospital room, taking out his fury on the cleaning woman who was
18:57only doing her little things.
19:01Ruby did not show up to visit her husband, and he needs to be calmed with injections.
19:06I think it is little for this cowardly fool, only that if we look carefully, the original character suffered much
19:12more, having been a little less toxic than his later versions.
19:17Taking advantage of her husband's despair, Ruby manages to go to the clinic outside visiting hours when Alejandro was there.
19:25She drops the comment of having seen Alejandro at the gambling house, which begins to awaken Cesar's jealousy.
19:32Later, he asks the doctor if his wife was accompanied by some man, but Alejandro lies that he saw nothing.
19:38Cesar also suspects the fact that his friend keeps fleeing from Ruby, and Alejandro says he avoids her because he
19:44gets sick just having to look at her face.
19:48Cesar continues believing that Alejandro hates Ruby because of that time when he was supposedly trying to kiss her by
19:54force, and she rejected him.
19:59Alejandro tries to tell what really happened, and Cesar believes him, especially since it has been a long time since
20:05he realized who his wife really is.
20:08But that does not mean he is any less obsessed with her, something we also saw in the other versions
20:14of the character, who always wants to keep the gold-digging wife by his side, no matter the cost.
20:19Seeing his pathetic friend's desperation, Alejandro promises to cure him so that he can continue being a fool in life.
20:26Meanwhile, Ruby tries to appeal to the godparents of her bankrupt husband.
20:31For that, she talks about Cesar's illness and that he would need to undergo a very delicate and expensive surgery.
20:37The godparents didn't even know that their godson was no longer receiving an allowance from his parents, and Ruby does
20:43not reveal that it was because of the rejection they felt toward her.
20:48She invents that the in-laws were going through financial difficulties, and since they had many daughters and women, the
20:54money was not stretching enough to send also to the male son.
20:57In those days, it was much easier to invent messes for the fools to fall for, since the facilities of
21:03long-distance communication were not like today.
21:06Only this godmother of Cesar was no fool, and told Ruby to take off the sheep's clothing because it did
21:11not suit her.
21:12The lady was aware of all the truths and threw them all in Ruby's face.
21:16She had no pity for the couple, and said that everything they were going through was pure karma, but if
21:21the money was only for the surgery, that the doctor should send the bill to their house and they would
21:25pay it.
21:26Only that in reality, it was not for the surgery, because Alejandra was covering his friend's entire treatment.
21:32Ruby tried to pull a scam on the godmother, but found one smarter than herself, and was even told to
21:38leave by the service door.
21:39This lady was definitely not the foolish godmother of the 2004 version.
21:44What remains for Ruby is to sell her jewels and dance with suitors to the sound of Tom Jobim's Corcovato.
21:50But these easy targets did not attract the huntress that existed in Ruby.
21:55She wanted the difficult one, and for that reason she follows the difficult one all the way to his house,
22:00and even spies on him through the window.
22:03When he leaves for the hospital, Ruby enters and pretends to be his cousin to the new unsuspecting maid.
22:09Alejandro had just moved, and Ruby suggests that the maid decorate the house with violets.
22:14The violets were like a trademark of Ruby in this version, something that Alejandro once pointed out as contradictory, since
22:21these flowers would be a symbol of modesty.
22:24But to provoke him, Ruby was always leaving violets in the places she knew Alejandro would see them and remember
22:31her.
22:31Ruby went to try the poor Alejandro, dressed to kill, and says she wants to feel his strength.
22:37We can already see that the original relationship between Ruby and Alejandro is based on seduction, and has nothing to
22:45do with the customary romantic ideal of Pink's stories.
22:48But Alejandro is a hard bone to chew, and firmly resists the enemy's games of seduction.
22:54He gives her Caesar's medical reports and tells her to buy a dictionary if she does not understand the clinical
23:00terms.
23:00But the greater the challenge, the more Ruby is stimulated to continue her game, and she goes to visit Alejandro
23:07at his house at night, catching the man in pajamas, so that he will explain the technical terms of Caesar's
23:13medical report.
23:14Well, the diva got lazy about buying a dictionary, but no, the macho still has not fallen.
23:20The days pass, and he takes refuge in work, not even daring to go visit his dying friend, who is
23:26already growing spiderwebs while hospitalized in the clinic.
23:29He presses for the doctor to operate, even if it's not the right moment, and guarantees that if he dies,
23:35so much the better.
23:36Without much room to run, Alejandro invites the bland, unseasoned nurse out as an escape from the desires that were
23:43beginning to haunt him.
23:45Ruby was another, who was haunted, but by debts.
23:48Even the hotel daily rates the poor woman was owing.
23:51Luckily for her, the manager was a man, and that way she could string the fool along with her charms
23:57and lies.
23:57Ruby waits for a call from Alejandro, but instead he goes out with the nurse, Eloisa.
24:04Then she goes for the second option, going out with her silly suitor.
24:08Pablo declares himself, already knowing the entire situation of Ruby with her sick husband,
24:13but the woman was one of those who likes a banded love, and could not get the doctor who so
24:18despised her out of her head.
24:20The doctor's date with the nurse at the circus seemed to be working, since he began to notice her from
24:26then on.
24:26Too bad he saw Ruby's face on the head of the other poor and unfortunate woman.
24:31Did you think Ruby's sister had died?
24:34Well, so did I.
24:35But lo and behold, Christina appears, and we find out that she also got married, and now has two children.
24:42And she's not doing bad at all, for she has a rather nice little house.
24:47Christina married a banker, and ended up better than her sister.
24:51Although her husband is not rich, she lacked nothing.
24:54Ruby said her sister was fat, and she answers that at least she has children.
24:59And I simply detest the fact that they deify motherhood in this version,
25:03and make a point of using the fact that Ruby doesn't want to be a mother as a trait of
25:08her villainy.
25:10The diva still says that her sister's son is ugly,
25:13and Christina answers that she's happy her children did not turn out looking like Ruby.
25:18Unlike the Christina of 2004, who hated the fact that her daughter Fernanda was a Xerox of her sister.
25:25One day your husband will get tired of your fatness and your kindness.
25:29I confess that I am amused by the pearls of this Ruby.
25:33The woman has no filter or pity.
25:35The cherry on the scene was that when his husband arrived, he could not take his eyes off Ruby.
25:41He told his wife to go prepare his food, because he had little time for lunch,
25:45while he accompanied his sister-in-law to the exit, with his chest puffed out like a peacock.
25:51While they ate, the scoundrel did not tire of asking things about Ruby,
25:55and kept repeating how beautiful she was.
25:58Besides that, he almost forced Christina to resume the relationship with her sister.
26:02There, Christina understood that if she wanted, Ruby could even steal her husband.
26:08But Ruby will not go that far.
26:10She will only use this great fool to pay her hotel debt.
26:13That is, instead of that, she spent everything on new outfits, thought especially to seduce Alejandro.
26:21Only that Christina went after her gold-digging sister, and slapped her across the face.
26:26On top of that, she tore a choker from the diva's neck to collect the money from the scam,
26:31and left Ruby lying on the floor.
26:34I'm fat, but I'm also strong.
26:36Christina also seizes a fur coat to collect as well for all the insults her sister had given her throughout
26:43life.
26:44The next day, Ruby goes to the hospital with a bruise from a car accident,
26:48and the tame cuckold Cesar asks Alejandro to examine his little wife.
26:55Alejandro flees from Ruby's dresses and invitations, using the silly nurse as a lifeline.
27:00Although he feels tempted, he does not yield out of loyalty to his friend,
27:04that friend who is more and more deteriorated in his hospital bed.
27:08Alejandro finally decides to schedule his surgery.
27:11Ruby seems more like an obsessee, haunting Alejandro's dreams,
27:15until he yields and calls her, but hangs up without saying anything.
27:19Despite that, this was a great victory for Ruby.
27:24Alejandro begins to become negligent and distracted with his work,
27:28and avoids more and more visiting Cesar.
27:30Ruby continues visiting his maid at home, under the excuse of being his cousin.
27:36Did you notice that Maribel has already become a distant memory in this version?
27:41Worse is that I believed the lying synopsis of this soap opera that is on Wikipedia,
27:45that the Maribel of this version was so foolish that she became a nurse to take care of Cesar.
27:50I even said that in one of my videos, and now, watching the complete soap opera,
27:55I am seeing that it was pure fake news.
27:58Maribel went on with her life and does not even appear in the story anymore.
28:02Another lying piece of data from the synopsis,
28:04there is that Cesar suffered an accident at his workplace.
28:07In reality, he had a tumor in the spine.
28:10The day of Cesar's surgery was almost arriving,
28:13and the nurse, Eloisa, was rooting for the patient to be saved in order to get the rival off the
28:18macho's neck.
28:18I mean, she wished everything would go well out of the great kindness of her heart.
28:22Only that the tame cuckold found a lighter that belonged to Alejandro, left by Rubi in his room.
28:28And since Cesar is a crazy obsessed man,
28:31he already constructed the complete fake that the two are having an affair.
28:35And he lost the few hopes he still had in life.
28:38Meanwhile, Rubi was asking in her own way that her husband not be operated on
28:43so he continue rotting in the clinic because she no longer loved him,
28:46or that the operation would go wrong.
28:48This enrages Alejandro, who swears he feels only contempt for her
28:53and guarantees that his friend is far more important than Rubi.
28:57The doctor calls her a venomous tarantula and expels her.
29:01Alejandro begs Cesar to recover his will to live so that he can come out well from the surgery.
29:06Cesar says he never wants to see Rubi again and refuses to be operated on,
29:11but instead of canceling or postponing, Alejandro advances the operation to that same night,
29:17anxious to save his friend.
29:19Cesar tells him that he does not want to be saved,
29:22because because of the lighter, he concluded that Rubi does not love him.
29:26Alejandro guarantees that he never betrayed his friend's trust,
29:30which was true despite living tormented by temptation.
29:33But despite the doctor's hero complex, Cesar remains on the operating table.
29:38Not because there was some malignant plot behind everything to incriminate Alejandro,
29:43with enemies putting anticoagulant in the patient's serum.
29:46He died because he had to die.
29:48Despite that, the doctor blames himself for having been distracted during the surgery,
29:53remembering Rubi's words,
29:54In your hands will be our happiness.
29:57Rubi calls the doctor, and without telling him what happened,
30:00he arranges to go see her within half an hour,
30:03only that he's completely unhinged, ready to kill one more.
30:07And that is what ends up happening.
30:11Rubi plays the innocent, serving a drink and saying that everything is fine if the operation
30:15goes well, because she can get a separation.
30:18That is when he announces the friend's death,
30:21and says that he died embittered thanks to Rubi's wickedness.
30:25Alejandro begins to assume a threatening posture,
30:28and blames Rubi for everything.
30:30She tries to convince him that she loves him,
30:32and he gives her a slap in the face that makes Rubi throw herself backward,
30:36and fall from the window.
30:38I just didn't quite understand what happened here,
30:40since the scene seems to have two versions.
30:43In one, he hits her and she falls,
30:45and in the other, she walks backward and falls alone,
30:48in a very strange way that makes no sense at all.
30:51If anyone knows, please explain to me.
30:54But basically, this is the original accident.
30:57In fact, in the comics, it's even worse,
30:59because he went there with the intention of killing her,
31:02and she threw herself from the window to prevent him from dirtying his hands.
31:06Yes, the original Rubi took her own life,
31:09so that a man would not become a murderer.
31:11Well, this first version in soap opera format
31:14tried to paint the male protagonist as a kind of moral hero,
31:18who bravely resisted the temptations,
31:21and remained loyal to his principles.
31:23And I would even have bought that narrative,
31:25were it not for the fact that he literally committed culpable homicide,
31:29and did not even have the balls to assume what he did
31:33by raising his hand against a woman
31:35and causing her to suffer a fatal accident.
31:38Already in the hospital, bandaged like a mummy,
31:41but with her eyelashes in a perfect state of glory,
31:44Rubi declares to the police that it was an accident.
31:47Later, she tries to go back to blaming Alejandro,
31:51declaring that he pushed her intentionally
31:53after being rejected once more.
31:55We understand you, Rubi.
31:57Ending as an iconic villain or as a repentant villain
32:00at the end of a soap opera is a difficult decision.
32:03But this version here decided to follow the path of light in the end.
32:08She changes her testimony for the third time
32:10and dies asking for forgiveness.
32:13Alejandro forgives her and manages to have his happy ending
32:16by marrying the bland Eloisa.
32:19A very strange wedding, by the way,
32:21with the guests dressed in their nurses' uniforms.
32:23The soap opera closes the same way it opens,
32:27with the same warning speech to the audience,
32:29only this time with the author's voice.
32:32For you, woman, who followed every step of this story,
32:36may it serve you as an example
32:38to prevent your physical beauty from erasing your moral beauty.
32:42And you, man, beware of red lips and fascinating gazes.
32:46First get to know the soul of the woman you are to love.
32:50From your friend, Yolanda Vargas Dulce.
32:54Now, my opinion.
32:55It is true, yes, that Rubi did a lot of crap.
32:59Inclusive, I found this version the coldest of all the Rubis,
33:03and the one that throughout the soap opera
33:05showed the fewest gaps that would let us see
33:07some trait of humanity or vulnerability in the character.
33:11She was truly bad.
33:12She almost seems to be a psychopath,
33:14for she was not even capable of shedding a tear for her mother.
33:18But it is also a fact that this version is extremely sexist,
33:23in addition to all the beatification of motherhood.
33:26Rubi could be a villain for many things,
33:28but not wanting to have children definitely was not one of them.
33:32And the worst is that this was a legacy
33:35carried even into more modern versions,
33:37such as the 2004 one,
33:39which was not free of a Rubi suffering disapproval
33:43for not wanting to sacrifice her body and her youth
33:46in favor of motherhood.
33:47But that is how it is.
33:49We are still evolving, even now.
33:52What did you think of this version?
33:54I must confess that I liked everything
33:56the 2004 version did differently.
33:59In my view, there was not the slightest need
34:01for this super bland character Eloisa
34:04to be Alejandro's romantic interest.
34:06Why could it not have been Maribel?
34:08She was a super important character
34:10at the beginning of the story,
34:12and Leder simply was completely erased.
34:15But I am already tired of talking about this first version.
34:18Shall we archive it?
34:20In the next video of the series,
34:22we will talk about the film
34:23that came a short time after the soap opera, in 1970.
