00:37Was Ruby a beautiful woman?
00:39Of course she was.
00:40But in my opinion, she was missing just a little bit of self-love, and this attitude of picking
00:47up crumbs is already a point that makes me feel a little less empathy for the character's
00:52ending.
00:52Clearly Out of Control starts screaming that he couldn't live without her beauty.
00:58She loses her balance and falls from a great height right onto a glass table.
01:04The accident causes Ruby to lose a leg and leaves her face disfigured.
01:09And the key point that differentiates this scene from the 2020 version is that Ruby suffers
01:15an accident caused by her own actions and excessive ego.
01:20She fell because she was chasing a man and begging for his love.
01:24The 2020 Ruby, on the other hand, was not chasing a man.
01:29She was trying to escape from one.
01:31Just like in 2004, it was a glass table that disfigured her face.
01:37But she didn't fall.
01:39She was thrown during a fight with an abusive husband.
01:42In the previous version, we do see traces of domestic violence on Hector's part.
01:48But in this version, things are much worse.
01:51And of course Ruby had done all those evil deeds and manipulations.
01:55But seeing a woman being the victim of a husband who disfigures her face in a fight awakens much
02:02more empathy than seeing a woman out of control with a gigantic ego suffering an accident she
02:08herself caused.
02:10Notice that this doesn't mean I'm speaking badly of the 2004 version, which is a soap opera
02:16I really like.
02:17I'm speaking specifically about this scene, and how, for me, while the 2004 version gives
02:23a bit of a she-got-what-she-deserved feeling, the 2021 makes me feel empathy for the protagonist,
02:31who, despite having made many mistakes, at that moment was a woman who was a victim of
02:36domestic violence that would mark her face forever.
