A young woman who lives hidden in the department store where she works, and writes down everything she consumes in her little notebook so she can pay for it one day.

Because, although she was a sly one, a thief she was not.

If this story sounds familiar to you, it’s because you’ve probably already watched one of the many versions of the romantic comedy La Pícara Soñadora.

Here in Brazil, the best-known is the telenovela produced by SBT in 2001, but internationally the Mexican one from 1991 is the biggest hit.

This 2026 remake arrives in series format, with only 20 episodes, and the first one is already available on the Vix platform.

And now I’m going to tell you everything I thought about it!

00:00A young woman who lives hidden in the department store where she works
00:04writes down everything she consumes in her little notebook
00:08so she can pay for it one day.
00:11If this story sounds familiar,
00:14it's probably because you've already watched
00:17one of the many versions of the romantic comedy
00:20La Pícara Soñadora.
00:22In Brazil, the best known is the one produced by SBT in 2001.
00:28Internationally, however, the 1991 Mexican version is the biggest hit.
00:34This 2026 remake arrives in series format with only 20 episodes.
00:40The first one is already available on the VIX platform.
00:44I'm going to tell you everything I thought about it.
00:47We start with a brief introduction of the protagonist, Lupita,
00:51presenting herself as a dreamy woman who was living in great financial hardship.
00:57I found the editing super fun,
01:00showing her in various moments of a poor person's routine,
01:03watering down the shampoo,
01:05dealing with electricity problems,
01:08noisy, rude neighbors in the middle of the night,
01:11and arriving late to work because of public transport.
01:14In short, every kind of struggle
01:17that every ordinary poor person has already lived through.
01:21And she ended up being evicted.
01:24In parallel, we see the good life the girl is leading
01:28while living inside the store where she works
01:31and where she hopes to become manager one day.
01:34Unlike the other versions,
01:36this one does not have the dream of becoming a lawyer,
01:39but rather of becoming the store manager.
01:42The motivation behind Lupita's dream
01:45is something I found much more relatable for most people.
01:49I want to go far so I can have a fridge that's always full
01:53and help my godfather.
01:56After a brief presentation of the character's context,
02:00a simply wonderful opening sequence begins.
02:04In an era of generic and lazy openings,
02:08it is extremely enjoyable to see a production
02:11so well-made and charismatic.
02:14It prepares us for what we're about to watch,
02:17a romantic comedy in fairy-tale style.
02:20And if you like this kind of genre,
02:23you will definitely love this miniseries.
02:25I confess that I'm very picky about two things,
02:29highly rose-tinted stories and comedy.
02:32But this one manages to balance both genres very well
02:36and still adds a dose of emotion
02:38with scenes that warm the heart.
02:41One change I really liked
02:43was that they removed the family grandmother,
02:46who basically served the plot of the deceased maid's son.
02:50They gave the role of protector and best friend of the boy
02:53to the eldest son, Federico.
02:55I only watched the Brazilian version
02:58and I always thought this character had zero charisma.
03:01But here he gains sympathy and empathy
03:04because he has a much better arc
03:06than just being a boring middle-aged man
03:09who falls in love with the protagonist's best friend.
03:12In the past, Federico was in love with the deceased maid,
03:16who got involved with the wrong man
03:18and was abandoned with the baby.
03:22Federico dedicated himself to raising the boy
03:25and took on the fight
03:26against the con artist father in this version.
03:29The scenes between the two are highly cute and tender,
03:33especially with the addition
03:34of the classic puppy companion of the boy,
03:37which was kept in the series.
03:40Another change I approved of
03:41was turning Lupita's immediate boss into a woman.
03:45A boss who still makes the protagonist's life difficult,
03:48but who is funny and not a green-tailed old harasser
03:52like in the previous versions.
03:55After all, nowadays, workplace harassment
03:58is a topic far too serious for this kind of story.
04:03Alfredo is that same somewhat frivolous
04:06and idol-rich pretty boy as always,
04:08but despite everything, he is highly charismatic,
04:12and you can see he has a sweet little heart.
04:15The series added a few extra plots for the character
04:19that still weren't very clear in this first episode.
04:23What we could understand is that he has some hidden trauma
04:27from parental abandonment on his mother's side.
04:31He starts working in the family store,
04:33pretending to be a simple employee
04:36in place of his best friend, Carlos,
04:38but the reasons for the switch here are a little different.
04:42He doesn't start the whole charade
04:44just because he saw Lupita
04:46and wanted to conquer her,
04:48only to throw her away later.
04:51Here, Alfredo does it to avoid having to interact
04:55with a woman from his past
04:57whom he never wants to see again,
05:00apparently because she triggers certain things in him.
05:03Since his friend is interested in the ditzy influencer,
05:07they make a deal to switch places,
05:09so both of them come out winning.
05:12Lupita and Alfredo's interactions are funny and cute.
05:16She starts out hating him,
05:18something I liked because I love the enemies-to-lovers trope.
05:22Of course, they aren't exactly enemies here,
05:25but you get the idea.
05:27I start hating you,
05:28I end up loving you.
05:30Well, I'm not going to narrate the entire episode
05:34because this is just a summary of my initial impressions.
05:38Some characters will still appear
05:40from the second episode onward,
05:42such as the best friend on the run from the police
05:45who comes to live in the store
05:46and the pair of detectives chasing her.
05:50Several things will probably still be done differently.
05:53For example, the episode ends with the hook of Alfredo
05:58discovering Lupita in the store at night,
06:00watching El Maleficio with a bucket of popcorn.
06:04Will he already discover her secret?
06:07I will definitely be back to find out.
06:09I will definitely be back to find out.
