00:00I can't stress enough that we're not going to declare any, anything, nothing is over.
00:09It's too early for anything to be over, and it's silly to talk like that.
00:13But you do have a lot of injuries stacking up here, and you are starting to have some
00:18real questions about the offensive line, the center depth particularly, the center position
00:25in general.
00:27When Nick Allegretti got hurt on the first day of camp, we were told it would be about
00:31a week.
00:32Then he came back about 10 days later, was hurt again, we were told that would be about a
00:38week.
00:38Dan Quinn made clear it was going to be important to get Nick on the field yesterday, which didn't
00:44happen.
00:45Nick is now out another week, which means basically he's going to miss all camp.
00:49More than likely.
00:50I mean, he's going to miss all three preseason games, the two joint practices.
00:53Well, people don't want other players to play at all.
00:55So, what difference does it make?
00:57Really, think about it.
00:59Listen, man.
00:59What is your concern level specifically?
01:01I'm going to be honest with you.
01:04I'm not concerned, because whether it's Nick or somebody else, somebody got to get into
01:09that place and play.
01:10And I can't, we can't guarantee Nick was going to play great.
01:14We can't guarantee the next person played great.
01:16But can they build the chemistry to keep moving?
01:19Because Tyler, when he got here, we loved him.
01:22And then Tyler didn't play as well last year.
01:25Now Tyler's out over in L.A. for the year.
01:28We don't know what can happen.
01:30And if we go and get a guy from another team, that's no guarantee either.
01:34Football is a thing where you got to adjust.
01:38And if people get hurt, you got to get somebody else and move on.
01:40What this is, we're going to find out how good they can get people ready.
01:45And we're going to find out if guys are ready to take a step, because there are guys in
01:49football that always feel I'm a backup.
01:52And there are guys who, like, take opportunities.
01:55We're going to see if somebody takes that opportunity.
01:57I hear all that and agree to a certain level.
02:02I think Julian Good-Jones has proven he cannot play center for this team in the regular season.
02:08Yeah.
02:09Now they're finally giving Goldman this opportunity.
02:12I don't know if that's kind of a product of DQ at times won't play his rookies right
02:18away, or if they just didn't think he was ready, or they wanted to give, you know, they
02:24wanted to give Good-Jones ample opportunity to prove maybe he could be the guy.
02:30Or maybe they kept wondering, they kept thinking, Nick's about to be back, we're not going to
02:34upset everything here.
02:36Yeah.
02:36And then it just continuously didn't happen.
02:38Sometimes you let people play themselves on or off.
02:41Right.
02:42And based off of what I saw from Good-Jones, I don't see him being a center.
02:49No.
02:50And I'm not even sure he's a guard.
02:52I think they kind of went too long with that experiment, honestly.
02:56And maybe they were getting kind of mismatched information from the medicals as far as what
03:02they thought Allegretti would be back.
03:04The center situation remains at the top of the list.
03:07But I said this last week, I think, the stacked up injuries on the defensive line have me
03:16concerned.
03:18Like, Odafa Owe, I don't think we've seen in two weeks.
03:22He was the free agent they spent the most money on.
03:25There's almost $65 million guaranteed with him.
03:29Then Caleb on chase on is also missing time.
03:32None of those guys are going to play this week.
03:34Going into this week, I identified the Ravens joint practice as the most important day of
03:41the summer.
03:41Because that's a real, a legit opponent, and you get good work in these joints, and I think
03:47there was a lot of buildup to that.
03:50And now, they signed Boogie Basham this morning, a guy that's bounced around a little bit, former
03:55second-round pick.
03:58They worked out close to 10 defensive players yesterday.
04:03Yeah.
04:04And you could tell me that signing Basham is just to get through this practice and this
04:10preseason game, because ultimately, you just need some bodies to get it done.
04:14Yeah.
04:14But the defensive line injuries, I just, like, Payne being out.
04:19Payne is, Payne is arguably the most durable defensive tackle of his draft class.
04:24I think he's missed one game in, like, six years.
04:27I believe Payne will be out there week one.
04:30But the, when you start to get injuries stacking up at a single position, that gives me great
04:38pause, because if you're looking at week one, I am sure they'll tell you they're confident
04:44O.A.'s going to be back.
04:45I'm sure they'll tell you they're confident Chason's going to be back.
04:48Dorrance Armstrong is suspended for that game.
04:50Keep that in mind, too.
04:52And as good as Josh Josephs has been, you know, Dan Quinn kind of publicly blasted him for
04:58the Josh Dobbs zone read touchdown.
05:02He's like, the end has got to stay home and make that play.
05:05I like Josh Josephs a lot.
05:07He shows you a lot.
05:08He said the truth.
05:09I mean, I don't know if it's a bashing.
05:11It's the truth.
05:12Yeah.
05:12You know, you got to stay there.
05:14I mean, the ultimate thing, though, Jay, people hate hearing me say this.
05:18People get hurt in football.
05:20You got to keep moving forward.
05:22I don't think there's ever going to be a year where you got 100% of the people playing
05:26every game.
05:27Sure.
05:27It never happens.
05:29So, all the people that they've signed, you're going to find out what the, did they get the
05:33right depth and whatever else.
05:35That's what it's about.
05:36So, I'm not going to get upset right now because they haven't played a real game.
05:40I want to ask you this question about the center position.
05:43After the game in Detroit, Dan Quinn said, we got to figure it out at center.
05:50Yesterday, before practice, he said, we like the guys we have.
05:55We're going to get Matt Goulbin more time.
05:57Yeah.
05:58Which of those two sentences is more truthful?
06:03I think both of them are truthful.
06:04I just think that Matt Goulbin now is the guy who they always felt they wanted to give
06:08a chance to, but they were waiting, and now they're going to give him the chance because
06:12he's at a point now where if they're going to have any type of confidence going into this
06:16season, they need somebody else there instead of the person that they've had.
06:20And I think Goulbin is the guy where, like I said, I know they have confidence in him,
06:26and they want to now see it play.
06:28You're right.
06:29A lot of times, rookies that we think need to be just thrown in there, they don't throw
06:34them in there.
06:34They make them wait for a bit.
06:35But as long as he's ready to go, that's all that matters, right?
06:38One thing that I think is important is, like, people are, there are a lot of injuries.
06:44Bill's going to miss this week.
06:46I don't think we're going to see any of the starters.
06:48Like, whatever we see Friday night I think is going to be miles and miles and miles apart
06:56from what they intend to do week one.
06:58I think that was going to happen no matter if all those people were healthy.
07:01I agree.
07:01I do think the plan for the joint practice was to be able to really get good work in,
07:06and I think that's going to be limited.
07:08Dan Quinn kind of allowed as such.
07:10Like, yeah, we're going to, we got to get through this joint practice now.
07:14But, like, Tunsil is a huge blow.
07:19Nobody's downplaying that.
07:20But you get to week one, and all of a sudden, whatever happens at center, they sign a veteran,
07:26Allegretti's back.
07:28Assuming Coleman being off today was just a Coleman being off today thing and not some
07:34sort of lingering developing situation, which is what we've been told, you get to week one.
07:41And it's just vital to point out that, like, Jaden, Terry, Steph, Chig, like, a lot of
07:48the pieces, if you go back two months, that you were really excited about, should, I mean,
07:53barring something crazy between now and 9-13, should get through there okay.
07:59And I know that folks are tired and fed up or whatever, but, like, try to keep a big picture
08:05glimpse on it.
08:06The problem with this time of year is it's just so damn long.
08:10And any news that comes out, by and large, is bad news.
08:14There's just, there's not a lot of good news that comes out in August.
08:17Maybe, like, a developmental story, like, Jaden Bradley seems pretty cool story.
08:22Or maybe a veteran gets a new contract.
08:25But, by and large, the news in August is injuries or arrests.
08:29Like, dudes hanging out in Ohio trailer parks.
08:31I mean, but that's what we push, but the whole thing about it is there are good things
08:36happening on this team.
08:37There are good positions and guys getting ready to go.
08:40Yes, there are people hurt.
08:42But, like, we don't focus on the health of people.
08:45We focus on whatever is negative.
08:47We focus on what's bad.
08:49And that's what people run with.
08:50But the ultimate thing for me, I'm going to keep thinking like I've always think.
08:53I told you, there are times when I let myself go into fandom and I let myself go into media
08:58hood.
08:59But I'm going back to football thinking.
09:01Can't worry about it.
09:02You got to be confident on the guys that are there on the field and see if they keep growing.
09:07And that's what you got to go with.
09:09I can't sit up here and be worried about what I don't know.
09:12Like, we get so mad today.
09:14If all those guys are healthy come week one, then you go, oh, damn, man, we wouldn't worry about it.
09:19Well, I'm not going to worry about it at this point.
09:20I'll see what happens.
09:22Yeah, I think I would largely maintain that position.
09:26I think things are starting to stack up to a point that I have real concerns.
09:30I think, to me, the center position and then the outside linebacker position, the edge rushers, whatever you want to
09:37call that.
09:38But this center position, soon as they let Biotis go, everyone started talking about the center position.
09:46So I don't think no one was going to be happy until you either got Biotis back or a name.
09:51So for me, I was not in that box.
09:55You may not be, but everybody else was.
09:57Because this is the thing I said about this area.
10:00We talk about the offensive line more than any area I know.
10:03And when they let Biotis go, did he play great last year?
10:06No.
10:06Okay?
10:07He didn't play great last year.
10:09But we got to stop worrying about names and just worry about people getting out here and building the chemistry.
10:14I agree.
10:14But Allegretti hasn't been out here to build the chemistry.
10:17He hadn't been out here, yes.
10:18But you know what?
10:19Let's go with the next guy.
10:20We see Goodjones not doing it.
10:22Galvin is next.
10:22Let's see how he works.
10:23Do you think the Goodjones experiment went too long?
10:26Yeah.
10:27I do too.
10:27Yeah.
10:28I think you should have.
10:29I recognize they were only going to do one series for Jaden.
10:33But I think you should have gotten Galvin some work, even with Marcus at some point.
10:39Like, the Goodjones stuff I think we saw early on was problematic.
10:45I mean, I'm not knocking Goodjones.
10:48The thing about the Galvin getting more, I guess, is the bodies they had at other positions.
10:54That's probably why they didn't go at that moment.
10:56Like, I've said this repeatedly about Goodjones.
10:58It's not worth, you shouldn't be mad at Goodjones.
11:01If you design a kitchen and your dishwasher's in the wrong spot, that's on you for designing it that way.
11:06It's not the dishwasher's fault.
11:08This is, they created this situation by releasing Biotis, which they'll tell you was the right move, and that's fine.
11:14Like, we'll see if that's proven correct.
11:16And then the plan was, we're going with Allegretti.
11:19He's our guy.
11:19He's going to be good.
11:20That can still happen.
11:22That can still unfold.
11:24If they're just being super cautious with Nick to get to week one, I mean, at this point, that's what
11:29you're hoping is the case.
11:31Oh, yeah.
11:31Like, otherwise, it's Matt Goldman or a veteran they're going to sign.
11:36And I wouldn't even close the door on, like, what are the chances you'd say today be of Tuesday, August
11:4325th?
11:44So, we are, I mean, we're still so far away from week one, which is crazy.
11:51We're still more than two full weeks away from week one.
11:55What are the chances you'd say today that Allegretti starts week one in Philly?
12:01I'll go with a 55%.
12:02Yeah, I think they are still relatively banking on that.
12:08Yeah.
12:08Like, here's how I would break that down.
12:11Chances Allegretti starts in Philly, 60, 55.
12:16I like 55.
12:17Yeah.
12:18Chances it's some other dude that's not on this roster, 25.
12:23Yeah.
12:24So, what do I have left?
12:2520 for Goldman?
12:27I might go.
12:28Are you going with 60 or are you going with 55?
12:30I'll go 60 and 25.
12:3285, 15% left.
12:34I might go 60 and 30 and 10.
12:37Like, I just, I don't know that Goldman, with the workload he's gotten so far, is going to be ready
12:44for Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis.
12:45And I think the plan that they had releasing Biotis and going with Allegretti, I know a lot of fans
12:53didn't like it.
12:54Like, they liked it, but the Allegretti injury is significant at this point.
12:58And the fact that it's dragged on basically a month and he's not going to get any work in the
13:03preseason.
13:03How many best friends have confirmed in the preseason?
13:03I mean, we'll see you.
