00:39It ain't right.
00:41I feel more so that Jaden Daniels is going to play this weekend.
00:46I think some of the starters should play from Dan Quinn.
00:50Dan Quinn is pretty accurate.
00:53You're about to say Dan Quinn.
00:55No.
00:55Well, the center situation, however, is murky at best.
01:04Allegretti's not going to play.
01:06Rashad White, not going to play.
01:09I am curious for you that played the position at a high level for a number of years
01:13and prided yourself on your pass blocking.
01:16Mm-hmm.
01:17Are you more concerned?
01:19I don't know if Bill's going to play.
01:21If Bill plays, kind of changes this equation.
01:24Because I think Bill's had an excellent training camp.
01:26And I do think Bill's pass protection has been pretty darn good.
01:32Yeah, yeah.
01:32Like we saw it in the Dolphins joint practice.
01:36Um, that said, however, White's not going to play.
01:41McNichols is not going to play.
01:43Jerome Ford's on IR.
01:45Yep.
01:45If Bill doesn't play and you're talking about two rookies in Robert Henry,
01:50Kay Tron Allen, or the young man they just signed like two days ago, Craig Reynolds,
01:54as your running backs, are you more concerned about pass protection from the running back
02:01or from the center spot?
02:03I'm more about, I don't know if I'm necessarily worried about pass protection from the center spot
02:09because the center spot has those two guards right there, which makes things a little murky inside,
02:14which gives them time to come.
02:17And I think if a linebacker is coming, the quarterback should have a feeling that he's coming.
02:23And knowing that you don't have your best blockers there, this is the moment where you understand
02:28I got to get rid of it a little quicker.
02:30So this is that learning curve for even a veteran quarterback to learn.
02:34When I got a certain person in the game, I need to let it go a little faster.
02:39If I have White in the game, I can hold on to it just a little tick longer.
02:42You know what I'm saying?
02:43Or dump it off to him.
02:45Yeah, totally.
02:46Allen had that drop last week, which Jaden wasn't a quarterback.
02:49But like.
02:50Like, but like the thing about it, both of those guys have shown, and I think the coaches
02:54really like these dudes, both of those guys in Henry and Allen have shown they're very
02:58capable of catching the ball.
03:00But as I always tell you, what's the first thing I say about a running back?
03:04Pass bro.
03:05And I think the mindset of either one of those young dudes is, I am going to hinder the guy.
03:13Everybody think a block is laying somebody on their back.
03:16No.
03:16A block is, if the guy has my head all the way back, but he never gets to that quarterback,
03:22that was a perfect block.
03:23I got an A on that play.
03:25Sure.
03:25Just harass, be a net.
03:28You know, when we were playing golf the other day, damn nets were a problem, wasn't it?
03:32They were.
03:32And they're tiny.
03:33Yeah.
03:33Be a net to whoever's pass rushing, and he don't touch your quarterback, perfect block.
03:38I think it's going to be really interesting how they're going to shake this up.
03:42And, you know, kind of as we go forward, I'll open the phones, 800-636-1067, 800-636-1067.
03:53How concerned are you, Jaden Plays, about the center situation?
03:58Julian Good-Jones, I'm not mad at Julian Good-Jones for being Julian Good-Jones.
04:02They did not properly address the depth.
04:04I also think, I'm curious if you agree with this, Dan Quinn does this thing where rookies
04:11have to earn their spots.
04:12Right?
04:13He did it to Jaden Daniels.
04:15Number two overall pick that was a Heisman Trophy winner.
04:17When Jaden got to camp, Marcus was technically the starter.
04:20Yeah.
04:21And over the series of a few weeks, then eventually it was Jaden's turn.
04:24Yep.
04:25Part of me wonders if that's what's happening with Goulbin, the sixth-round rookie out of
04:29Michigan State, that is a true center.
04:31Could be.
04:32But, like, the center situation is not good, but you're right.
04:38You have guards there that can help you out.
04:40But think about this, OJ.
04:43If you fast-forward this thing to September 13th, that's the first game?
04:47Yeah.
04:49And Good-Jones is the center.
04:51Are we going to forfeit the game or are we going to play the game?
04:54Totally.
04:56So, for me, just like when we were talking about the receivers this offseason, everybody
05:03kept saying, we got to go get this named person, that named person.
05:05I say, everybody starts with no name.
05:08They got to work to become in that.
05:10If it's Good-Jones and he starts off and he's a little hectic or slow at that point and
05:14then he grows into something better, I'm cool with that.
05:17If it's Galvin, whoever, you're going to have to play with whoever's on the football field.
05:21You're not going to always have the presumed starters out there.
05:28You got to figure out how to play with other people, too.
05:30So, that's where this thing is at.
05:32Aaron's calling from Norfolk.
05:33Aaron, what's up, dude?
05:35Hey, what's up?
05:36Good morning, y'all.
05:38Normally, I don't give a crap about preseason, but I want to see Jaden get out there and
05:44throw a few passes, especially after the injury, you know?
05:50Yeah, I mean, the injury last December, but I hear you.
05:52I think a lot of people think he needs some playtime, be out on the field, get David Blau
05:58in his ear.
05:59There's a lot of boxes they will check if Jaden plays the drive or two.
06:03And, you know, I can see the downside to it, too.
06:09I think a lot of people aren't, but I think the center situation is bigger than just this
06:13weekend.
06:14I firmly believe they will add someone to the roster.
06:19And, like, extrapolating it out even further, you've also got, like, generally, your active
06:29players on game day, you want versatility out of.
06:34And I think that's why they're trying to see if Goulbin can play a little bit of guard
06:38so they can have him active on game day.
06:41You know, Julian Jones probably is a guard, and he's playing center.
06:45I mean, heck, you could argue Allegretti is a guard that is playing center.
06:49I do think they believe they can kind of duct tape that thing together.
06:54Um, I also think when we get to roster cuts, they're going to add somebody, especially now
06:59that Allegretti's got, I mean, I think it's fair to say this is a lingering calf issue.
07:04It's August, but it has now impacted, uh, Jeff, can you play number 10 from DQ yesterday?
07:12I asked, I asked Dan just what is the impact here?
07:18Yeah, for sure, JP, it has.
07:20Like, um, when you're not in there of, like, getting all the reps and the turns, and especially
07:24at the line of scrimmage, like, that's a big deal, you know, our padded practices.
07:28So, with him not having as many, it's not ideal.
07:31This is an experienced player who's got, you know, a lot of games and starts and time under
07:36his belt, but you do need the time on task.
07:39So, as we get into Sunday, you know, let's hope that, you know, trajectory continues and
07:44we're able to get him back out there.
07:45So, um, those are the frustrating days for him and, uh, like, this guy's a real competitor.
07:50So, um, it's a setback, but one that, hey, man, like, this is the best you can do to get
07:56right now and I'm hopeful and optimistic as we get into next week that, um, he'll be able
08:01to, like, really put together a full week.
08:04I think a full week next week would really alleviate some of the concerns.
08:09You know what I mean?
08:10Like, if he can go again, if he goes again and then has to come back out again, I think
08:15that concern level gets raised all the way up.
08:17They get raised, but coaches are, right now, those coaches are probably have a plan B.
08:25If he's not ready, we have to get this guy ready.
08:28And they may be leaning towards that right now.
08:31And we are looking for a named person to step in.
08:37It may not be a named person.
08:38It may end up being Goldman.
08:40You know what I'm saying?
08:42So, at this point, if he's injured, he needs to get healthy.
08:48And then once he's healthy, he can go back out there.
08:50But still, the fact that he's not 100% healthy, somebody else needs to be preparing to be that guy.
08:57Let's go to Matt in D.C.
08:59Matt, what's up, man?
09:00Good morning, Dylan.
09:03I'm not concerned about the center, partially for the reasons B. Mitch was saying, but also because the whole thing
09:11about Jaden getting out there and getting some run is only to get his – to see if he has
09:19embraced playing while not getting hit, avoiding contact.
09:24I will take whatever percentage reduction in offense that might occur to have Jaden not put himself in physical danger.
09:39I feel like that's the only thing.
09:42And it doesn't matter who's playing center.
09:43It doesn't matter how good Bill's pass blocking is.
09:47I don't think Bill's going to play, dude.
09:49Well, it's more the point of, like, this is up to Jaden to have that kind of understanding.
09:57Yes, I think that's – I mean, that's the thing.
09:59I'm not concerned at all about his play.
10:02I think people are making, you know, the step back in year two or whatever.
10:07I mean, he – you know, until his fumbling against Chicago, he was – he looked like Jaden to me.
10:13He had whooped the Chargers a couple weeks beforehand, and that particular – the Bears game, he had – the
10:20Bears took a lead.
10:21He – when he made that fumble, the Commanders were up a couple scores, I think, and Chicago ended up
10:27coming back and winning that game.
10:30But other than that, he looks like Jaden Daniels to me.
10:33I'm not concerned about his effectiveness.
10:35I'm concerned – I want – I just – I always think about Russell Wilson in his first couple years,
10:42you know, especially when viewed in contrast with RG3.
10:46Russell Wilson just was not going to get hit.
10:49That was part of his job, just like it is part of Jaden's, that he wasn't going to risk unnecessary
10:55contact and potential injury.
10:59I wanted to sit – yeah, the one thing – the only thing I would like to have Jaden do
11:03is watch some of that Russell Wilson film.
11:06It's just like – yeah, the internal clock, just feeling the pressure, whatever it is.
11:13That is his big – that's the main thing I want to see from Jaden Daniels.
11:18Appreciate the call, dude.
11:21I think that's fair.
11:22Like, you would love to see – C.J. Stroud last night, I think, had a drive.
11:30He went 4 of 6 for 27 on a 10-play opening touchdown drive.
11:35Like, if you see that from Jaden, 5 of 8, 3 of 5, and they moved the ball well, perfect.
11:42Check, please.
11:43You know, like, you want to see him out there.
11:45You want to see him go through everything.
11:48But I do think you're not going to see White or Bill, and then in turn, plenty of work for
11:55Fat Man and Robert Henry tonight,
11:58which will be an interesting kind of subplot to all of this.
12:02Coming up at 11.30, we're checking in on the Philadelphia Eagles with our boy Ike Reese.
12:07Nobody go anywhere.
12:08Ike, sir.
