00:24be here in case anybody needed to talk. The recent Peters Township High School
00:29graduate was on the Penn West California soccer team. A second vigil was held at
00:34Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church in Elizabeth. The Trump
00:38administration is set to unveil what it is calling an economic D-Day against Iran
00:42promising the economic penalties will be the toughest in history. ABC's Karen Wye
00:47has more from Washington. Treasury Secretary Scott Besson writing the
00:51sanctions will be the single greatest financial offensive ever marshaled
00:55against an adversary saying the goal is to sever every economic lifeline
00:59until Tehran stands alone. Iran responding with its own threats warning if
01:04the economic war continues not a single drop of oil will be exported through
01:08the Strait of Hormuz. The trade war with Canada escalated over the weekend as the
01:12US imposed 50 percent tariffs on some Canadian goods after negotiators failed to
01:17reach a trade deal. Sticking points included protections for Canadian dairy
01:21farmers and bans on the sale of American alcohol in Canada. ABC's Elizabeth
01:25Shelsey has that. Oil and gas products not included in these tariffs at a time when
01:30you know we've already got high gas prices but this is an escalation. President Trump is using an
01:34authority to impose these tariffs that has very rarely been used before. It dates back to the
01:38Great Depression and almost right away we saw Canada say they will impose their own
01:43dollar for dollar tariffs that will take effect next month September 8th. Gas prices shot up 15 cents in
01:51the last week. AAA says the average in Pittsburgh is now four dollars 36 cents a gallon up from
01:564.21 a week ago. Pittsburgh Regional Transit is seeing its highest ridership in six years with gains
02:02across much of the system. We have details on that with news radio Katie Case to Myra Rush in the
02:07newsroom.
02:08Paul PRT says more than 39 million trips were recorded across the system in fiscal year
02:132026 up five percent from the previous year. Bus ridership increased five percent while rail was
02:19up eight percent and in June average weekday ridership climbed nearly 10 percent compared with
02:25last year with increases on 74 of the system's 99 routes. In the newsroom to Myra Rush News Radio
02:31Katie Ka. Peters Township High School is at the top of this year's rankings of the best high schools in
02:37the
02:37Pittsburgh region. U.S. News and World Report rate schools on metrics like assessment scores,
02:42graduation rates, and how well graduates are prepared for college. High schools in Upper St. Clair,
02:47South Fayette, Mount Lebanon, and Cannon-McMillan round out the top five.
