00:00Really funny situation going on in Philadelphia this past week when it came to the starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts.
00:06So the Eagle PR department, not knowingly, decided to put a video out, an innocuous video, when it came to
00:15throwing an interception during a practice.
00:18Now look, how many times do quarterbacks throw a football during any given training camp?
00:24A thousand?
00:24But here's a quarterback that's under incredible pressure this year to excel with this new offense that they're trying to
00:32install there in Philly.
00:34So what does the PR people do?
00:36What do they do?
00:37At the end of the day, guess what?
00:39They put a video out that nearly 17 million people viewed watching Jalen Hurts throw an interception.
00:46And you sit there and you go, what's the big deal?
00:49Everybody is watching this year to see whether or not if Jalen Hurts is going to earn that new contract.
00:57They offered a contract to the Philadelphia Eagles a couple years.
01:02They turned it down.
01:04The Eagles did not want to talk contract with Jalen Hurts because they wanted to see what he's going to
01:09do this coming season in the new offense.
01:13So you put a video out where it shows that the guy's throwing picks.
01:20Everybody knows.
01:21Look, for me, it's not a big deal.
01:23But people are making narratives.
01:25Guy's not accurate.
01:26You just heard Coach March, what he just said about Jalen Hurts.
01:30He's not the most accurate guy on the planet.
01:34That's the narrative out on the guy.
01:36He's not a very good passer.
01:37So the PR department of the Eagles thought that they were really highlighting Quinion Mitchell getting the interception, not knowing
01:46that they were throwing shade on Jalen Hurts.
01:50Again, remember something.
01:52We're going to look at things and things are going to land different.
01:55The quarterback goes into the 2026 season with an incredible resume.
02:00And yet, people are saying in Philadelphia, if Hurts does not have a great season, the Eagles are going to
02:07move on from the quarterback.
02:09And they're going to go in a different direction.
02:11If they were really sold on Jalen Hurts, they would have given him a contract extension this past offseason.
02:18Well, that's not the case because they're not sold themselves.
02:22They just gave Jalen Carter a contract extension.
02:25And they try to get ahead of the game.
02:27That's what Howie Roseman does to general manager.
02:29He wants to get ahead of the game.
02:31And he wants to make sure that he's not going against the market and setting the market with what the
02:37quarterback prices are going to be.
02:39You're talking in excess of $63 million.
02:42If Jalen Hurts gets a new contract extension, you're not going to go into a contract talk with Nicole Lynn
02:49from Clutch Sports, his agent, and say,
02:51we're going to pay you $3 million more than what you're making right now.
02:55And the video, again, it shows.
03:02And here's the video.
03:04And get this.
03:05It's a random video of a practice that got 17 million views.
03:12People out there are also saying this about Hurts.
03:17He's a caboose.
03:19He's been carried.
03:21That leads into the narrative.
03:24That leads into that.
03:25Look, the PR department for the Eagles, in my opinion, didn't really go out and try to do anything and
03:32try to create any kind of controversy for Hurts.
03:34They thought they were accentuating Quinion Mitchell and him being able to get an interception.
03:39Vic Fangio had talked the day previous about how he doesn't have an interception during the regular season yet and
03:46that he's still emerging getting an interception.
03:48An oppressor.
03:49Those were Vic Fangio's words.
03:51So, he was excited about it.
03:53The Eagles were excited about it.
03:55Look, Jalen Hurts has become one of the more polarizing players in the NFL.
04:00You know, he's won a ton of football games.
04:02He's not the sexiest-looking quarterback that plays in the pocket.
04:07His resume really does speak for itself.
04:09Even for a naysayer like myself, you can't get away from the last four years, 50-18, two Super Bowl
04:17appearances, a Super Bowl MVP.
04:20It almost sounds like the old Skip Bayless and LeBron James conversation that the guy does not have what it
04:27takes to be a champion.
04:28That's not the case here.
04:29That's not where we're going.
04:31I think Howie Roseman does a spectacular job at building that roster and putting great football players on that team.
04:38That team is loaded once again, but now the direction of the football team, they want Jalen Hurts this year
04:44to now run the Green Bay offense.
04:47Sean Manning, the new offensive coordinator, has been brought in to overhaul the entire offense.
04:53And they want more production out of the offense.
04:56Look, in the last five years, 27th in passing, 18th in passing, 8th in passing, 29th in passing.
05:05And in this past year, they were 23rd in passing.
05:09For an offense that spends over $230 million a year in salaries, it's time to get the quarterback to elevate
05:17himself and that unit on being a balanced football team.
05:21For years, they've been leaning, without a doubt, on that run game.
05:25Well, this year, they're going to have to lean on that pass game if they're going to want to make
05:30it to the NFC Championship game.
05:32And Jalen Hurts come next March getting a new contract.
