Tofuku-ji is one of Kyoto’s five major Zen temples. Located in the southern part of Kyoto City, it is a large temple complex consisting of 25 sub-temples.
Ryogin-an was originally built as the residence of the third head priest of Tofuku-ji. When that head priest passed away in 1291, the residence was converted into a sub-temple.
