Nonin-ji Temple: A two-tiered garden believed to date from the Momoyama period

Nonin-ji Temple is located at the southern foot of Mount Tenran; the garden to the north of the main hall skillfully incorporates the mountain’s steep southern slope, with a pond situated on a lower level. Said to have been created during the Momoyama period, this garden has long been recognized as a prime example of a “two-tiered garden.”
