00:01Preseason. We get in on the party tomorrow with the Bills and the Panthers.
00:06If the preseason was real, what did we learn last night? That Drew Aller can play.
00:11Carson Beck looked like he could play in the Hall of Fame game, so did Haynes King.
00:15And then also last night, Fernando Mendoza had a couple of nice little highlights.
00:20Marvin Harrison Jr. looked fresh.
00:22Joe Burrow got sacked.
00:24Yep, yep.
00:25First play.
00:25Mid-season form.
00:26Yeah.
00:27That was the first play that happened on?
00:28He was under center a lot.
00:30Cincinnati did beat Detroit 16-14.
00:33Oh, well, big for them.
00:34Yeah.
00:35Pittsburgh had a passing game.
00:36How about that?
00:37That's wild.
00:39Chargers blew out Houston.
00:40Guess their defense is not good anymore.
00:42It's over for them.
00:43Trey Lance threw a horrible interception.
00:45Here's how valuable the preseason is and how massively important it is.
00:50I just found out now that the Colts and the Patriots tied.
00:57I did not know that.
00:59And that's not because they didn't play the game because the turf didn't get installed.
01:02No.
01:02They just played to a tie.
01:05Yep.
01:05I would love to see who it was.
01:08What was the New England who again yesterday?
01:10The Colts.
01:11The Colts.
01:1213-13.
01:13Like the play-by-play?
01:14What happened on the final drive?
01:15Right.
01:16They didn't have overtime, right?
01:17No, the Patriots missed a field goal at the end of the game from 56 yards and that's just
01:21it.
01:23Okay.
01:23After they kicked a 61-yard field goal to tie it with a minute 16 to go, then New England
01:33drove down the field, had a 49-yard field goal attempt with 13 seconds to go and missed
01:43before, okay, the end of the game.
01:45Yep.
01:46Didn't the Bills have a, was there a Dick Jerron moment or was it somebody else where
01:52they-
01:52There indeed was a moment in a Bills preseason game where-
01:56At the end?
01:56They were in like a two-minute drill.
01:59Yeah.
02:00And they just decided like, it's fine.
02:02Yeah.
02:03They just like ran the clock out?
02:04It was kid's day.
02:05It was kid's day and they just like ran the clock out and went home.
02:08Was that Jerron?
02:09I think it was Jerron.
02:10Definitely Lions.
02:11Late in the, you know, late.
02:12Lions.
02:13Okay.
02:14I gotta find that story.
02:15I might have been there for that.
02:18As a kid.
02:19Yeah.
02:21And like, okay, let's go win the game.
02:23How about-
02:23You're a kid.
02:24You know what's happening.
02:24I mean, the Colts on the previous drive to end the game, I'm looking, sorry, I'm looking
02:28at the final drive of the game here.
02:29Yeah.
02:32Well, whatever.
02:33Who cares, right?
02:35It was a tie.
02:36That's all I'm getting at.
02:37It was a tie.
02:37It was a tie.
02:38A missed field goal.
02:39And the Colts got it back at their own 45-yard line, Hail Mary stuff.
02:43Anyway, there was a tie in the preseason last night.
02:45The Super Bowl is six months from today.
02:48Feels really close.
02:49It's on Valentine's Day.
02:51You know, let me ask you this.
02:55Have you ever thought about not planning something ahead of time or planning something because
03:03of the Super Bowl?
03:04And the bills?
03:05Yeah.
03:07Like, my wife's looking at vacation ideas for next year right now.
03:12And she brought up the idea of, like, the week after, not the week of, the week after
03:18the Super Bowl.
03:19And you thought about the parade?
03:20I said, like, that came to my mind immediately and thought, like, okay, well, we're canceling
03:25if they win.
03:26If they were to win the Super Bowl, we are canceling that trip, are we not?
03:31I have definitely thought about that, yes.
03:33Well, we can't make plans in January.
03:35The Bills might host some playoff games.
03:37Right, but do you ever extend that out to, like, February 20th?
03:40February 20th because that's the week there might be a parade.
03:43Yeah, I have.
03:44Even if it's less than 10% chance.
03:47Yeah, I have thought about it.
03:47I have thought, like, we're going to want to make sure we don't leave until the week
03:50after that.
03:51Because you've got to be around for the parade.
03:53If there was one.
03:54Yeah.
03:55Right?
03:55You don't want a parade to be like, oh, I'm flying out to somewhere spectacular, but still.
04:00Speaking of which, you want to be here.
04:03The schedule's tough.
04:05The coach is a first-year coach.
04:07There are reasons to think that this is not the year to get the one seed, but of all
04:14the things that could be different, why shouldn't we just go into the season saying, let's go
04:21get the one seed.
04:22Go get the one seed, Bills.
04:23Come on.
04:24Why not?
04:25The AFC looks like it did last year, which was kind of wide open.
04:29The Broncos got it.
04:32And, like, there's no, the era of the big bad Chiefs as being inevitable, that era of
04:38them being inevitable appears to be at least on hiatus.
04:42Could they get back there?
04:43Sure.
04:44Could they be good this year?
04:46Fine.
04:46I'm not, I'm not, this is not bulletin board material.
04:48It's just going into a season, they are certainly not looked at as, well, it's Kansas City and
04:53then, like, the Bills and then everybody else.
04:55Because the AFC instead is looked at as, like, I think about four or five teams that could
05:00be good.
05:01Bills, Patriots, Broncos, Ravens, Bengals, Chiefs, Chargers, is that the list?
05:07Did you say the Jags?
05:08I didn't say the Jags and I didn't say the Texans.
05:10I probably should.
05:11The Texans are good.
05:11Those are two teams.
05:12Yep.
05:12Okay.
05:12They are two teams.
05:13Those are two good teams.
05:15Yeah, that's right.
05:15They could fit this.
05:16But, I mean, maybe one of the identities we could get to the new stadium is that it hosts
05:21the AFC Championship game.
05:23Because I do think, like, all the stadium talk, it's going to, maybe tomorrow is our
05:29first real look at it, and what I mean by that is I know it's a preseason game, but if
05:34it's full or full-ish and you have your first ever third and sixth where the crowd wants
05:41to see, like, how loud can we get, maybe tomorrow at 1.30 on social media we're going to see
05:49clips
05:49and it's going to hit, like, it got unbelievably loud for a third and sixth in the first preseason
05:54game of the year.
05:55I think that is, I almost want to say that's likely to happen.
05:59But I don't want to overestimate a preseason crowd because, again, people going in might
06:02be just walking around and kind of happy to be there.
06:05But how about the one seed?
06:08I don't see why it has to be any less likely than past seasons.
06:36AFC team has that, so pick your flavor on it.
06:38But I also just kind of want to say, like, it's just about time they do it.
06:45Was it Denver's time going into last year seen that way when they ended up being the
06:51one seed?
06:52How many people thought they would have done it?
06:54When Tennessee was the one seed with Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry, what a lot of people
06:59thought going into the year, they're like, oh, that's the team that's going to be in line
07:02for that.
07:03Like, how many teams in the AFC at this point have either won the AFC championship game
07:09or been the one seed?
07:10The two things the Bills have not done since Allen's been great.
07:13Kansas City's done it a million times, right?
07:16Baltimore's been the one seed.
07:17They haven't made it, but they've been the one seed.
07:18Denver's been the one seed.
07:20Tennessee's been the one seed.
07:21And then Cincinnati and New England have been to the Super Bowl.
07:25Like, give me one of those things.
07:28Obviously, one is way better than the other, and one is a tool to get to the other.
07:33One less game in the playoffs to get injuries or to get upset.
07:38Home field throughout, including in the AFC championship game.
07:42So, I don't see any reason why they can't be at least as likely as anybody else.
07:48Sure, we don't know how good the defense is going to be, and sure, they have a new head
07:51coach and new defensive coordinator.
07:54There's newness all around.
07:55They might not have the best personnel on defense, but, again, I could run down any
07:59other team you present me with why they would be the one seed, and I'll give you three reasons
08:03why they can't do it either.
08:05So, yeah.
08:06You have the best quarterback in the league.
08:08Go be the top team in the regular season.
08:10In the AFC.
08:11Which is the thing they have been excellent at.
08:13It's almost incredible that they have not been the one seed one time because they have
08:18the best record in the league over, what is it, five or six years.
08:22There's a graphic we see all the time.
08:24They have the best record, best point differential in the regular season, and yet, not one time
08:30they've gone into the playoffs as the one seed.
08:32It's incredible that that hasn't happened.
08:36Get some calls in here.
08:38And also, a quick note.
08:39Mike Garofalo has tweeted, the Bills are signing safety Wanda Owens, who was with the team up
08:48until July 31st.
08:49So, he was with the team in camp and now rejoins the team.
08:53He had been out with a couple of, here we go, four workouts with other teams since Buffalo
08:57released him on July 31st.
09:00Returns to the club that originally signed him as an undrafted free agent last year.
09:06So, this to me would be, again, if we're looking for, what does it mean?
09:11Both C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Cole Bishop have been missing practice, and here they're
09:16going to add a safety to the mix, according to his agent.
09:19So, Wanda Owens was with the team last year, released this year in July.
09:23He's back.
09:25Doesn't have to mean it.
09:26Maybe they need a practice body.
09:28It's a bad first thought.
09:30Yeah.
09:30Ron and Alden.
09:31Hey, Ron, good morning.
09:32Good morning, gentlemen.
09:33What a beautiful day, TGIF.
09:37Question.
09:37I haven't heard it talked about almost all, and I'm sure you guys probably have, but the
09:41difference between the stadiums and last year, this is really the turf, the grass.
09:45I bet on the other turf when it was, you know, the Bill Stadium, across the street, and it
09:50felt kind of spongy or whatever, and I tried running on it.
09:53You could run, but it's, you know, you'd feel like you're almost walking on the moon in
09:56a way, but they say with grass, less injuries and all that.
09:59But will the team be faster, or would they be slower?
10:03I mean, when it rains, it's going to be different because it's going to be muddy, probably.
10:07But when it snows and icy, they have like a heater underneath, right?
10:10So, it should be icy.
10:11I just want to know what the pros and cons are of grass compared to what we've been playing
10:14on for a couple of years.
10:16And one other quick question.
10:17How come during preseason quarterbacks aren't redshirted just so if they get touched and
10:22then it's a blown whistle?
10:23I've always wondered why they never really redshirted the quarterbacks in preseason just to protect
10:27them a little bit more.
10:28Now, hang up and listen.
10:29Have a great day.
10:30Thanks, Ron.
10:32I think they want to play football games would be my answer.
10:35It becomes more of a scrimmage when you do that.
10:38You're not allowed to touch any quarterback.
10:41Yeah.
10:42And then, you know, they're trying to sell tickets or trying to convince everybody that
10:49the face value of the ticket is worth what it says it is.
10:52And if you make it basically a fake football game at that point, which I know it already
10:58is, but you're really admitting to it when you do that, then I think a lot of that gets
11:01tougher.
11:03And also, I don't think I'd still want Josh Allen playing in the game if you told me they
11:09can't hit the quarterback.
11:10Just, you know, running around.
11:14Doesn't always have to be a contact injury.
11:17He might decide to take off because of instinct.
11:19And then what?
11:21But I feel like if you take off in a red jersey, I just, I've never thought about it.
11:25It's too complicated.
11:26I've never really, I don't think I've thought about it.
11:28Anyway.
11:29On the grass, like what'll be different?
11:32A lot more maintenance.
11:34You're less likely to have ACL injuries.
11:38You're more likely to have guys slip.
11:40And there are certain injuries that could be associated with slipping.
11:43And I'd seen this week when McGovern went out with a hamstring injury that it might
11:47have been by Docker on Twitter who pointed out, of course, you know, Bill's a internet
11:52injury expert.
11:53That you're more likely to suffer those kind of injuries on grass than on turf.
11:56Because you're not going to slip on turf.
11:59And in terms of like the speed, I don't know anybody that's ever made the case you're faster
12:03on grass.
12:05I've never heard that.
12:05Turf is faster.
12:08Fast players are faster on turf.
12:10You cut better on turf.
12:12You know, the Bills field will have state-of-the-art drainage.
12:16It's heated.
12:17How muddy will it get?
12:19That's something I guess we'll have to see.
12:21Right.
12:22I mean, it poured on Saturday at the blue and red.
12:26And did the field get noticeably worse?
12:29Or did it drain unbelievably well?
12:32Right?
12:32You know, if it rains at my house, my backyard looks different than a really nice golf course
12:37does.
12:37A really nice golf course, it can rain hard, and then the range is gone.
12:40Like, it just drains out the proper way.
12:43So, state-of-the-art, designed to drain.
12:46I'm sure there's a limit to how much it could drain, and you could get mud, and you could
12:51get some exposed dirt.
12:52But is it also a hybrid where it's like, I could probably find this out, where it's 90%
12:58grass and 10% turf?
12:59Because a lot of natural grass surfaces are a hybrid where it's kind of stitched in.
13:04They have those two that help it maintain its form.
13:07I'm getting real deep into the weeds, into the grass.
13:12But...
13:13I mean, it does happen at other stadiums where it will get muddy and messy.
13:18Pittsburgh is a team that has a reputation for this.
13:22Like, muddy fields, it gets chewed up.
13:25But I think one thing they deal with that will not happen here...
13:29Their football games on Saturdays.
13:30Yeah, they play a college football game on that field the day before, often.
13:36And how much of an impact...
13:37How much of that is the reason?
13:39Right.
13:39Like, last year, I remember there was, like, a thing with the PA that the Browns and Steelers...
13:44Or maybe it's just the Browns, where, like, this field should not have been playable.
13:49And we had to play on it.
13:50And I don't think that will happen with the Bills.
13:53That's also an older stadium, right?
13:55Does their grass that was installed, you know, or designed 25 years ago have some of the capabilities that the
14:02Bills are going to have?
14:04Probably not.
14:06But I also feel like we should prepare ourselves, Bills fans.
14:12The stories about the stadium 400 level and the stairways and the moderately blocked seats...
14:20I'm not going to go too deep into it.
14:22Maybe you're tired of hearing about it.
14:23This is kind of my warning.
14:25You're not going to stop hearing about it, though.
14:29Because if people do buy tickets on the secondary market, if people do go to the stadium for the first
14:34time...
14:35Maybe you're someone that didn't go and thought, like, ah, whatever, what's the big deal?
14:38You guys don't complain about anything.
14:40Then you buy a ticket in the upper deck, and you're going to get to that seat and say, oh,
14:45yeah.
14:46That stairway is pretty prominently in my field of vision, based on where that seat is.
14:50So, you have, potentially, a lot of people going to their first game in the new stadium and reacting to
15:00it.
15:00So, it doesn't mean it's going to be story A1 every game.
15:05But it wouldn't shock me at all if on, you know, at 1 o'clock tomorrow, some fans get into
15:11the upper deck for the first time and take a look.
15:12And you're going to see more social media pictures of, like, oh, yeah.
15:16Now I see what people are talking about.
15:18More and more people are going to experience the slight blockages or the slight obstructions.
15:24And you pointed out, Joe, that you've got seats that are clearly obstructed, that on the secondary market, the picture
15:30they show you is not going to be obstructed.
15:33The railing is not there.
15:34When you look on the secondary market and they show you the image, the glass staircase is not there.
15:40On some of your seats?
15:41No, it just doesn't exist in the picture.
15:43It's just the seats looking down to the field.
15:45Right, so you're going to have people that are going to buy seats not expecting it.
15:48And I talked to another buddy yesterday who got seats and had a similar story that we were told it
15:55wouldn't be an issue.
15:57So, I think you have a lot of people that, again, were told it wouldn't be an issue and they
16:03found out it has.
16:04Now, even if those people come to peace with it, if they sell a ticket online and say, yeah, I
16:08can't go to this game.
16:08The person that sits there for the first time, when they looked at it online, if it's not in that
16:12rent, guess what?
16:13Like, I just think it's going to be whatever, like I said.
16:17Not story A1.
16:19Games will happen.
16:20But prepare yourself for hearing about it.
16:23I wonder if that part of the story has any growth to it.
16:29Because that would be a story that, to me, is not pointed at the Bills.
16:33I mean, it would be by association.
16:35But that would be at Legends, who the Bills hired to sell PSLs.
16:43And if that company had a lot of people that were doing that, which I had experienced, that person experienced,
16:51others we've heard have experienced,
16:53then that organization deserves a lot of criticism.
17:00If you were in charge of selling those tickets and you did that, and you did it a lot, that's
17:06horrible.
17:08Just downright horrible to do it, especially if you were doing it on purpose, to just get the most sales
17:15you could possible.
17:16But I think the secondary part is right.
17:18I heard a caller on the afternoon show, either yesterday or the day before, who bought tickets to the Bills
17:25-Bears game for, like, $600.
17:27That's the Sunday night game late in the season.
17:30And he did that weeks ago.
17:31And then he saw the story, the stories from last weekend, and he checked into it or looked it up.
17:39And maybe similar to what I just referenced.
17:41Like, on the secondary market, you don't see the picture of the glass staircase.
17:46That person called in and said, I bought these tickets.
17:49I did not know that was going to be there.
17:50I only just wanted to go to the one game.
17:53I would have spent $600, but I have to deal with it.
17:57Like, I wish I could go back and do it because I was not given the clarity of, I'm going
18:03to be looking through a glass staircase here.
18:05If you just went on a site and bought them, you wouldn't know that.
18:08And that also should not be allowed, right?
18:13Like, you're offering people an image of what you are going to be looking at on the field,
18:19and you are purposely leaving out a part that would impact whether they would buy or sell that seat.
18:26All that's kind of the, that part of it is way more gross to me than their actual existence in
18:32the stadium.
18:33We talked with the architect the other day.
18:35What was his name again?
18:37Jonathan Malley.
18:38Jonathan Malley.
18:39Everything he said made total sense to me why they decided to do what they did.
18:44But the after effect of then kind of hiding from it, to me, is the gross part.
18:51Paul in Alabama.
18:52Paul, good morning.
18:53Hey, gentlemen.
18:54Nice to talk to you all again.
18:56First of all, you guys are just talking about the tickets a moment ago.
19:00They don't like, if the folks don't left their seats, that's totally cool.
19:03Just donate them to, like, VettTicks.org or something.
19:07Like, just figure it out, right?
19:10Well, I mean, if a person purchases a product with the idea that it's going to be a certain thing,
19:14I don't think it's, you know, I don't think they have to be treated like a bad guy.
19:19I'm not disagreeing with that.
19:19And also, necessarily, I don't think they have to give them up.
19:22I mean, you know.
19:23I'm not disagreeing with that at all.
19:25I'm just saying there's other ways to, like, sort of, like, quell personal.
19:30Oh, you mean the bills would donate them?
19:33Something, something.
19:33I don't know.
19:34I mean, right.
19:37So, you were just talking about it.
19:38So, just, I'll figure it out.
19:41Sure.
19:41Anyway.
19:42Sure.
19:42Valentine's Day, 2027.
19:44Super Bowl.
19:45Yeah, great.
19:46But, more importantly, that's Jim Kelly and Hunter's birthday.
19:51Okay.
19:52That's right.
19:53Yeah.
19:54The Super Bowl's on Valentine's Day this year?
19:55Yeah.
19:56Six months from today?
19:57Hmm.
19:58Valentine's Day.
19:59Is that, uh, that's an easy one, isn't it, for most football fans?
20:05Sure.
20:06If the bills aren't in it, Super Bowl, right?
20:10Yeah.
20:11Yeah.
20:12Men and women like the Super Bowl.
20:15All right.
20:15Couples like football.
20:18Yeah.
20:18Sure.
20:19And, obviously, the bills were in it.
20:20Like, uh, Saturday night Super Bowl observed.
20:23This is where someone might say it's the perfect time to move the Super Bowl to a Saturday.
20:28You know, I think I find that the internet memes where it's like, what take has people
20:33like this, and it's the guy with all the swords pointed at him?
20:35I don't want the Super Bowl on Saturday.
20:38A lot of people on, you know, you get to it and say, why not have it a Saturday?
20:42It's Saturday, so the whole world can be off on Sunday, and I don't want that.
20:45I actually don't want a Saturday Super Bowl.
20:47I like Super Bowl Sunday.
20:49Everybody goes to work and talks about it the next day.
20:51It's not on that late.
20:53It's like, what, 615, 640?
20:56It's not a Monday night football game.
20:58I like the Super Bowl on a Sunday.
21:02I'm okay with that.
21:04I've been on the Saturday train for a while, but I think that it running up against President's
21:12Day is a pretty good meet in the middle.
21:15Okay.
21:16Not everybody has off on President's Day.
21:19Maybe, though, if you had the Super Bowl on the Sunday before President's Day every year,
21:23maybe more people would give you off on President's Day, which is a federal holiday, right?
21:30Should be.
21:31Yeah.
21:32So, kickoff 1 o'clock tomorrow.
21:34Joe Kelly, you got some pregame coverage.
21:36You're on at 9 a.m.?
21:379 a.m., 9 to 1.
21:38Very good.
21:39Yeah.
21:39We'll have some fun.

21:42Pregame begins at 9 a.m. with Mr. Joe Kelly and takes you right up to the start of the

21:47So, you know, you wake up on Saturday morning, you're heading down, pop us on.
21:52We got pregame for you, as expected.

21:56Jeremy and Joe, 803-0550, 1-888-550-2550.
22:00It's not a number anymore.
22:01I did it again.
22:02I'm not supposed to say that number.
22:03It's not a number.
22:04Ten bucks.
22:04It's not a number.
22:05It's Friday.
22:06It doesn't count.
22:06Friday.
22:07I'm just vibing.
22:08That's a technicality now.
22:09It doesn't count if it's before 7 a.m.
22:11And it also doesn't count on Fridays or Mondays.
22:13So, Mondays through Thursday.
22:15No, it doesn't count on Mondays either.
22:16Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
22:18The only day the fines are applicable.
22:19No, this is, no.
22:20No, no, no.
22:21I'll figure out a reason why those days don't count either.
22:24Anyway, give us a ring.
22:25Talk to us about anything here on WGR.
