00:00What did she say?
00:02Brandon Bean has liked D.J. Moore for a long time,
00:05and they were middle of the pack,
00:06even with Josh Allen being their quarterback.
00:08And then she said Shakir's name funny, and that was it.
00:14All right.
00:15I'm not here to say she said it wrong.
00:16Maybe I've been saying it wrong the whole time.
00:21That's happened.
00:22Maybe she knows.
00:23That usually happens with the Sabres.
00:24Yes, right.
00:26It can't happen.
00:27But Dax and Rudolph, can that change to anything?
00:31Can we go three years in on Dax and Rudolph
00:33and have it be determined that we're saying it wrong the whole time?
00:38Could, by the way, if the Sabres and Jets are still talking,
00:46could Rudolph be a part of that?
00:49I mean, you just drafted him in your own arena, for what it's worth,
00:54at four overall.
00:55Would that make him untouchable?
00:57Would it seem like, what would it feel like if the Sabres traded
01:01their just now fourth overall pick?
01:06I think it would be weird.
01:10But, I don't know, Paul has said numerous times,
01:14like, they made the picks.
01:15They can still trade the players.
01:17He's right.
01:19But I feel like it would be odd.
01:22Like, how about this?
01:23Because, sure, we'll give you Rudolph, but we get Bork.
01:27Right?
01:27Didn't they?
01:28They took the guy you liked.
01:29They go, Bork.
01:30Oh, Bork.
01:31Bork.
01:31I said Bork, not Bork.
01:33Yeah.
01:36Like, could you swap those guys out and make that part of the trade?
01:40I don't know.
01:40I guess anything could happen.
01:41But that would be very surprising.
01:43Well, that would look like, I mean, why didn't you just do it before then?
01:46Right.
01:47What changed?
01:49I also think, like, that's the new regimes guy, whereas Murtka is not,
01:56you know, at least Yarmou.
01:57I mean, a lot of the same people were here.
02:00But, and his name's been, you know, it was around at the trade deadline
02:05in St. Louis, right?
02:06He was supposed to be part of the deal for Pareko.
02:08So, that doesn't mean they're eager to trade him.
02:11But the fact that it came up that way tells me, like, they would probably
02:15more readily make him a part of that than the guy they just picked.
02:19Okay.
02:20And we know they've already agreed to trade Murtka before.
02:23Right.
02:24With the Blues.
02:24Right.
02:26803-0550, our number.
02:29Yesterday, we spent a minute on this, just thinking about putting the bills
02:32into some perspective here.
02:34I mean, on one hand, I think, I mean, there's always a lot of people.
02:39A lot of people think any given thing you could say.
02:42But I do kind of sense a nervousness about the season.
02:48Like, when the changes happened, recognizing, again, that that's kind of
02:54what we're here for is the complaint department.
02:56But, man, there was a lot of noise after that.
03:00Bean getting a new title and Brady getting promoted.
03:03I talked to enough people that are optimistic for Brady,
03:07that I don't want to assume the worst or anything like that.
03:11But I think maybe, I was trying to think of the word during the break,
03:15fans' attitude about the Bills right now.
03:17I think maybe it's guarded.
03:19Everybody knows what Allen's value is.
03:22And that's like, you're automatically in the playoffs every year.
03:25I saw today that if the Bills make the playoffs again, it'll be eight years in a row,
03:31but don't win the Super Bowl, they will tie the NFL record for the longest streak
03:38of playoff seasons without a championship.
03:41They haven't even been to the finals.
03:42Like, they haven't been to the game yet.
03:44They'll tie the 70s Rams, who did go to a Super Bowl in the last year of their streak,
03:5079, if that was the last year.
03:52It's like, eight years in a row there, the Rams were in the playoffs and never won one.
03:57And that's the NFL record for this.
03:59So the Bills are that close.
04:01Yeah.
04:01Wow.
04:01And the Ravens had the dignity to miss the playoffs to break their streak.
04:05So they're off the hook.
04:08They don't have to suffer this indignity if this were to happen.
04:11But, like, it's just been so good for so long.
04:15And increasingly, naturally, I think we sort of get kind of fatigued,
04:19and you don't want to get your hopes up to the same extent that you might have five years ago.
04:25So maybe that all adds up to a sense of, you know, a guarded attitude.
04:32I mean, that describes me for sure.
04:35However, I don't really have a sense that I trust of how much company I've got in that.
04:43But, I mean, I feel like I'm a reasonable person.
04:47And I just think there's a lot that they have to get – there's a lot of change that has
04:51to work for them.
04:53And it's funny you – not really – it's not funny.
04:56It's amusing to me that you mention at the time of the changes, which is, you know, the news conferences.
05:03I was listening to Tim and Brad.
05:06Tim Graham and Brad Ryder are on from 1 to 3.
05:09But, you know, before us, I was listening on my way in.
05:12They keep coming in.
05:13I know.
05:13I think they have fobs and everything.
05:18And, you know, Tim was talking about the news conference and Pagula rattling off the seeds, you know, that sounded
05:28like a phone number.
05:30Like, you know, he's asking, anybody know what those numbers – and they played a clip of – they played
05:35that clip coming back.
05:37That's a gem.
05:37And I just was like, I need to not think about that.
05:44Because that is – like, if you really push me on why my trust or why my faith is sort
05:53of shook, it's that I think the owner has been sort of – I think the owner has been misled
06:01by Brandon Bean.
06:02Like, he talks there in that same – I think the same clip how good the roster is.
06:07And you just don't have those results, whatever the numbers were, 5, 2, 2, 3, 6, 2, whatever.
06:14You don't have those results without a great roster.
06:18Like, I don't know.
06:20Does anybody objectively think the Bills have had or even now have a great roster?
06:27I don't think you could do so.
06:28There would have to be some established threshold for how many – some numerical way of doing this.
06:34And we just did have rankings last week from some league poll.
06:38Yeah, right.
06:39Where by position, an Allen ranked 1 and Cook might have ranked 7 and nobody else ranked anything.
06:44Right.
06:45So, like, when I'm presented with that information from, you know, January, it takes me back to how I felt
06:57sitting in here going, like, oh, my God, what is happening?
07:02But eventually you get – you crawl away from the – I don't think wreckage is overstating it.
07:08Like, that news conference was horrendous.
07:11You get clear of it and, like, okay, well, they still have Josh Allen and, okay, new defense.
07:18And maybe it all comes together.
07:21And maybe in some way McDermott's tense nature was holding them back or something.
07:27Like, okay, you know, I can get to where the change is going to work, but I just – I
07:34don't trust the people at the very top very much right now.
07:39I think Bean got Pagula to this guy is not doing the right things with the players I provided him,
07:48and that is what was holding us back.
07:52And I don't know that I think that that's even plausible.
07:59So, that doesn't have to mean none of this works, but it just freaks me out to think about because
08:06I just don't think the – I don't think it's honest at the top.
08:10It concerns me.
08:12Yeah, I guess I don't want to stand in front of that so much as just to – since we're
08:17going back to that whole time, that decision and everything.
08:20I mean, it's a huge lift on a team that's won constantly to dump the coach and the GM at
08:29once.
08:30Like, this is not rebuilding mode.
08:32That's what you do if you're just – like, he's done with the Sabres.
08:36If it's fallen apart.
08:36Yeah, right.
08:37Murray and Bilesma, right?
08:38And it did not fall apart because they lost to Denver.
08:40No.
08:41And the coaching change is simply much easier on him.
08:45It's just a much easier process that he doesn't even necessarily have to be at the front of.
08:51Like, it's – Bean can run that.
08:54And without Bean, then what are we doing now?
08:57Like, it's got to be – we've got to go find an executive.
09:01You know, thinking about Minnesota for a minute, they fired their GM kind of well into the offseason, which was
09:07very strange.
09:07And just, like, you don't want to get behind, so I think it's kind of in Pagoula's nature.
09:13And, all right, well, I might not – this is Pagoula to Bean, or in his own mind, to all
09:19your points.
09:19I might not really agree with you about this.
09:22I can pick up pro football focus as easily as anybody else can and read objective analysis on how good
09:28my players are.
09:29I mean, if I were an owner, I'd be doing that every day.
09:32Not every owner would.
09:33You might just think he's going to take anybody's word for it, or somewhere in between.
09:37I don't think he has to believe that they're loaded, if you will.
09:43And at a press conference, you would want to represent some optimism.
09:48I mean, I don't think it all comes very easy to him.
09:51Well, sure, for the – you're trying to sell the change.
09:52Yeah.
09:53Yes.
09:53So, you're not going to talk about how your team is in ruins and then promote your general manager either.
09:58So, I think just bottom line, simply for me, it's – he wasn't of a mind to do both guys.
10:05And that makes sense.
10:07And this way, you're closer to the continuity piece everybody covets and is really admired about the Bills for like
10:17a decade.
10:17Yeah.
10:18Including, of course, promoting Brady.
10:20Yeah, see, there's also – anytime I get back to thinking about the choices that were made, I get to,
10:33okay, you're hitting your head on the ceiling.
10:37You can't get over the proverbial playoff wall.
10:41And, yes, it is absolutely more convenient, easier – whatever word you want to put on it – to move
10:50on the coach.
10:53But you've got to be willing to believe or buy what he's trying to sell you at that news conference,
10:58which is this guy's – this guy's done a great job, this roster.
11:03You don't have these playoff seeds without this roster and all of that and like – but we need to
11:11make a change to get over the playoff wall.
11:13And so, that change is going to be promoting the offensive coordinator and elevating the guy who built this roster
11:20that nobody besides you seems to think is great.
11:24I don't know.
11:25Like, that just – that – none of those routes intersect in a way that makes sense for me.
11:32They all veer off before they can mesh and turn into like a cogent, yes, I believe you.
11:40I'm buying what you're selling.
11:41Well, that was the point, right?
11:43Yeah.
11:44At the beginning of this conversation, it was trust.
11:46Yeah.
11:47And expectations.
11:48So that – but again, like that doesn't mean that Brady isn't going to ace this as a first-time
11:55head coach.
11:55And maybe freed of having to worry about having someone over his head that might be critical.
12:04And also now having a player in DJ Moore who's more capable of providing you with a way to become
12:11more pass-centric than you have been the last couple of years.
12:15Maybe that all works and they just – you know, the news conferences and the firing is like a –
12:22it's a rest stop.
12:23You've got to get off the highway and get some gas and some beef jerky and some protein bars and
12:29get back on the highway.
12:30Maybe they get right back on in the lane that is, you know, 12-5, 13-4.
12:35Maybe.
12:36I have to remember on ADP Chasing tonight, 7-30, any reference to Brady, I've got to make sure to
12:43call him Joe Brady because my guys get tripped up because they think I'm talking about Tom Brady.
12:48Joe Brady is not yet at the Tom Brady level.
12:52So Brady, when – you know, we're talking about the Bills.
12:56They should be able to figure it out.
12:57But when they hear just Brady, they think of Tom Brady.
13:00Brady, when you say Brady like that, it almost feels like Belichick should come right after it because that's how
13:07we – Brady and Belichick, Brady and Belichick, Brady and Belichick.
13:10I mean, for, you know, two decades, that was how we talked.
13:14Right.
13:15Wasn't that fun, all those decades?
