00:00This is our rescue puppy Zippy meeting our dogs for the first time.
00:04Seven days later a couple came to visit her for a possible adoption
00:07but she was so nervous she hid under the table.
00:10It's been a crazy journey and it all started on day one.
00:14The first time Zippy met our golden retriever Kobe she was terrified.
00:18We've never rescued a puppy who was so scared before
00:21so we knew this would be a bit of a journey to get her more comfortable around us and our
00:26dogs by day seven.
00:28When she first met our doberman Moki it was the same story.
00:33Once all the dogs had calmed down we were trying to get Zippy used to being around all of us.
00:37We just ignored her to give her time to settle in
00:40but she definitely started to see my partnerella as a bit of a safe space.
00:44You'll see how their bond grows throughout the next seven days.
00:47Zippy felt confident enough to have a sniff around which was good.
00:50She was also starting to show some submission to our dogs.
00:57What are you doing?
01:00Yup, she even started to show us why she was named Zippy.
01:03Her little prances are adorable.
01:05Zippy was super nervous any time you even moved near her
01:09so once she settled in Kobe's bed
01:11I was trying to do my normal everyday movement
01:13so she realised there's nothing to worry about.
01:16We introduced Zippy to her crate which she was happy to go into.
01:20Kobe being the golden child was checking up on her
01:22and then it was time to give her her first meal.
01:32She did eat some of it which was good
01:34and after travelling three days in the back of a van
01:36meeting two new humans and dogs
01:38it was time for this poor dog to finally get some rest.
01:42The morning of day two was really hard.
01:44Zippy woke up feeling really unsure.
01:47It made me sad seeing her little tail wax.
01:49You could tell she wanted to trust us
01:51but had to make sure we weren't going to hurt her.
01:54She's probably like this because when she was a puppy
01:56she was left at a train station for three days.
01:59She has bad trust issues.
02:01We tried to get Zippy downstairs
02:02and I'll let you see how that played out.
02:21She retreated back to the room
02:22so I brought in the cavalry to see if they could help.
02:24By the way that chewed up bit of wool was a previous foster.
02:31And once the dogs had gone down
02:32it was time to see if Zippy would follow.
02:35Good girl, well done.
02:37That's it.
02:40No.
02:43Good girl.
02:47Good girl.
02:49In the morning of day three
02:51we started seeing changes in Zippy.
02:54Hello.
02:54Zippy.
02:56Zippy.
03:02Hello.
03:04Hello Zippy.
03:07Hello.
03:09Hello.
03:09Hello.
03:09Good girl.
03:10Good girl.
03:10What do you do?
03:11What do you do?
03:13Hello.
03:13Hello.
03:14She started prancing around a lot more.
03:16She still didn't want to be touched
03:18which was fine.
03:19It was just nice to see her coming out her shell a bit.
03:21She also started to build a bit of a bond with Moki.
03:40Even checking if she had any milk at one point.
03:45She was starting to come out her shell at random points throughout the day
03:48and then decided to show us why she's called Zippy.
04:10And then you start to see Zippy really starting to bond with Ella.
04:13You can see she wanted to be pet but was still really cautious.
04:19Oh.
04:19I'm tired mum.
04:21Hey.
04:21I'm recording it.
04:27Zippy Zippy.
04:30Oh Zippy Zippy.
04:32So we were about to feed Zippy and then noticed she loved doing her prances for food.
04:37It was so nice to see her looking a lot happier.
04:41You ready to eat?
04:42Zippy.
04:47You ready?
04:48You ready to eat?
04:50You ready?
04:52Yeah?
04:54Oh.
04:55You ready?
04:56Go on then.
04:57Go on then.
05:01Good girl.
05:03She made a lot of progress in day three.
05:06After a good night's rest, the progress continued in day four.
05:13Oh Zippy.
05:15Oh Zippy.
05:16Oh you got belly rubs.
05:19Hello Zippy.
05:25Hello Zippy.
05:26Hello Zippy.
05:28Hello.
05:30Can I give you a pet?
05:32Is that okay?
05:35Hello Zippy.
05:37Hello Zippy.
05:38Hello Zippy.
05:40Can I give you a pet?
05:42Oh good girl.
05:44There you go.
05:45After destroying her bed a bit and even more zoomies, we started to worry a bit about Zippy's
05:50forever home.
05:51We're fostering Zippy and the rescue we were working with had already found someone to come
05:56and meet her.
05:56I'm about to get on to what this meant for Zippy but she needs to have breakfast first
06:00and the prancing went crazy.
06:10Whilst Zippy enjoys her food and then spends some time playing with the dogs, let me tell
06:14you about Zippy's situation.
06:15She was still pretty nervous around people and we haven't even tried to take her outside
06:20yet.
06:20But we do try and do this the next day.
06:22We really wanted more time with her but at the end of the day, she isn't ours.
06:26And if another family came and wanted to be the ones to help Zippy come out her shell,
06:31then that's up to them.
06:32I'd have massive respect for it.
06:34You'll see what happened with Zippy by the end of the week.
06:38Every time we went to walk our dogs, Zippy always looked really excited, like she wanted
06:43to go out.
06:44And so in day 5, we made our first mistake.
06:46When we showed her the lead, she looked like she wanted to come on the walk.
06:50So we tried to take her with our two dogs and this happened.
06:53Alright, you two come.
06:55Come on Zippy.
06:57No, it's fine.
06:57Come on Zippy.
06:59Oh.
07:01Come on.
07:02And then she kind of just shut down.
07:07Good girl, well done.
07:09Come on then.
07:11Come on.
07:14See look, you've got these two.
07:19Come on Zips.
07:20Come on.
07:22In hindsight, we should have just stayed there and let her take everything in.
07:25But Kobe and Moki were ready to walk, so the whole thing was just not thought out very well.
07:30So we took her back inside, but she did really well even making it that far.
07:34On day 6, we had a massive problem.
07:36So Zippy's potential new family were coming to visit her tomorrow.
07:39But Zippy has actually been throwing up nearly every meal we've given her.
07:43We were getting pretty worried, so we decided to take her to the vet.
07:47We knew this was going to make her pretty uncomfortable, but she actually kind of surprised us.
07:52She looked pretty scared, but also kind of curious.
07:55She was looking around a lot and then to our surprise, decided she wanted to have a little wonder.
08:09She was having a sniff around, which really surprised us.
08:11We thought she'd be way too scared to do anything.
08:14But question is, how will she react when the vet deals with her?
08:25She was being such a brave girl.
08:28The vet did some general checks on her, made sure she's hydrated, checked her heartbeat is okay,
08:33and finally did some checks around her stomach area to make sure she's not experiencing any pain.
08:38We checked her weight and then she had an anti-sickness jab, listened to the little cry she did.
08:43Nearly made us all cry.
08:46Oh my goodness, that was so crazy.
08:50I said, oh no, no, don't cry.
08:54I can't cope if you cry.
08:55After some pets for being so good, we took her home to see Kobe and Moki.
08:59They definitely knew where she'd been.
09:02Where's she been?
09:07Moki, Moki, Moki's like, you okay?
09:11So what actually happened to her?
09:13The vet couldn't find anything out the ordinary.
09:15She likely just had an upset stomach due to all the stress from travelling,
09:19coming to a new home, meeting new people, dogs.
09:22She's been through a lot.
09:23She was given some special food to settle her stomach, which she absolutely loved.
09:27And now all that's left is for Zippy to meet her new family in day seven.
09:32This amazing couple wanted to remain anonymous, so I'll be calling them the couple.
09:36Before they came to meet Zippy, they did go through an extensive survey and home checks to see if they
09:41were suitable.
09:42I also explained to them on the phone that Zippy can still be quite shy
09:46and likely won't pay you much attention on the visit, but they were happy to come and see her anyway.
09:50You can see Zippy keeping her distance and it wasn't long until she retreated to underneath the table.
09:56I really thought there was no chance this couple would want to adopt her.
09:59That little white speck under the table, yeah, that Zippy, bless her.
10:03But the couple was so patient with her until eventually she came out to get cuddled.
10:08So the couple did previously have a rescue called Kiwi until she sadly passed away a few months ago.
10:13They told us that Kiwi was just like Zippy when they first got her, really scared and nervous.
10:18This was nice for us to hear because it meant that this couple has previously had experience with dealing with
10:24scared dogs.
10:25They knew how much time they needed.
10:27After about an hour, to my amazement, Zippy actually started to come out her shell and the couple got a
10:33chance to see a glimpse of her personality.
10:35I think their mind was made up the minute they saw her because they decided to adopt Zippy.
10:40Although I do wish we had more time with her, she has come so far in only 6 days.
10:45It was really hard to see this one go, but I could just tell by the way the couple were
10:49with her, they were perfect to carry on all the progress she's made.
10:53This isn't the end of Zippy's story though, it's just the beginning.
10:56They have been sending us updates on Zippy and look at her shining bright, it brought a tear to my
11:01eye.
