00:00Are we putting a lid on this season?
00:04Uh, not looking good.
00:06I was getting the text last night from very, very concerned, locked in.
00:13These are the all-in fans saying it's over.
00:16Are you guys going to talk about it being over?
00:18This team has no chance.
00:22They want us to talk about the season being over?
00:24Yes.
00:252-1-6-4-7-4-0-92.
00:27Should we be saying the season's over?
00:28I'm a little afraid to say the season's over for a couple of reasons.
00:32I mean, they did come back from 15 down last year.
00:34Now, that was last year, not this year.
00:35But we all thought the season was over much earlier in the season last year.
00:39Well, but the guy who didn't, and...
00:44Hey, when I say this, I do mean total respect to you when I say this in there.
00:49When he was like, oh, the season's not over.
00:51Like, oh, that's cute.
00:52Somebody's got to stick up for him.
00:55But it's over like, oh, and oh, and oh, and oh, and first set.
00:57I was like, all right.
00:58I mean, somebody's got to stick up for the team.
01:00That's cool.
01:01He ended up being right, and it's right in his reign.
01:03Put it on his casket.
01:04Or his tombstone.
01:05Can't put it on his casket.
01:06No one will see it.
01:07Put it on his tombstone.
01:09But, I mean, Owen's the first one saying, nah, I ain't doing that this year.
01:12And I'm going, well...
01:15But they came back from 15 down.
01:18Last year...
01:18That was last year, though.
01:20Yeah, last year at this time, we were six and a half games back.
01:22But we were streaking.
01:23Of Detroit.
01:24But we were also five games above 500.
01:26Funny thing is, offensively, some of their numbers are better than last year.
01:31This is bad.
01:32It's not good.
01:33But, I told you, the trade deadline was last Tuesday.
01:43Oh, my God.
01:44Are you serious?
01:45And I think they've won one game since the trade deadline.
01:48Since they restocked.
01:50Unfortunately, everybody else in the division is kind of scuffling.
01:54If we're going to do, do they have a chance?
01:56Yeah, there's still only four games out of the division.
01:58They've been horrible.
01:59Well, that's...
02:00Some of the White Sox.
02:00And it looks like, right now, the Tigers who sold Tarek Scuba
02:04are going to be the ones that end up...
02:06They're the hot team right now in the division.
02:08Holy wah.
02:09And we are two games back of the wild card right now.
02:12And in fourth place in the division.
02:16I'm not ready to give up on the season yet.
02:21Maybe ask me in the morning.
02:23I'm not sure.
02:23I'm not ready to give up on the season just yet.
02:25Are you ready to give up on the season yet?
02:27I am hesitant.
02:28We're all hesitant.
02:29Because of last year.
02:31That's why.
02:31Not just that.
02:32Again, not a huge believer in any of these teams in the division.
02:37So, you will always have that ability to still hang around.
02:42But you've got to get turned around immediately.
02:44You've got the bullpen issues.
02:46And as much as Stephen Kwan has completely rescued his season from hell,
02:53Jose Ramirez is having the season from hell.
02:56Has he had a worse season?
02:58It's a rough start.
02:59The injuries are there.
03:00I think he's trying to play through the injuries.
03:01I mean, last week, that stuff about the, well, he's got wrist inflammation.
03:05And I'll be okay.
03:06I'm like, will he?
03:07Will he?
03:08I saw people again speculating yesterday he might be going back to the DL.
03:12He came back very quickly.
03:14And he probably came back a little too quickly.
03:16And it bothers, you know, you're damned if you do.
03:21And you're damned if you don't if you're him.
03:22If you wait, like, I think he knows.
03:25If you wait too long, like, the season could be done.
03:27If you come back too early, it could affect your season health.
03:30Now, because I think he's probably thinking, I got a long offseason.
03:34It'll rest in the offseason.
03:35It's August.
03:36We got to get going here.
03:37I got to get back.
03:38Like, I think that that's probably what he's thinking, Tone.
03:41Do you disagree or agree with that?
03:42But, okay, so if it's not, like, he must be thinking if it's not going to get any worse,
03:47like, do they remove the bone?
03:49Is that what they do?
03:51Is that what they do?
03:52For the hammy?
03:52The hamadi?
03:53I thought they, like, removed it or something.
03:56Well, then he's out of them.
03:57I'm no doctor.
03:58Yeah, because he had it on the other one.
03:59Correct.
03:59So he might just be thinking, well, it ain't going to make any damn bit of difference,
04:05so I might as well just go right on ahead and play.
04:08Because I can't hurt it twice because there ain't no more left.
04:11So I understand him coming back, but it just serves to the brutality of the season of what
04:18it's been to him because he's clearly not himself.
04:21And I think that he'll press because he's trying to keep this team's head.
04:25Well, they're underwater.
04:26I mean, they're four games under .500.
04:28They're underwater.
04:29But he's trying to keep them some sort of in the hunt because you are only four games back.
04:34Some way, somehow, you're only four games back.
04:38So I don't want to say it's over yet because you've got the starting pitching.
04:42If you could just wake up the bats and somehow put some sort of bomb on the bullpen, you'll be
04:50okay.
04:54So I'm asking, like, do you guys think that we should be saying the season's over?
04:59They're 2-8 over their last 10.
05:02At one point, we were right back even with the run differential.
05:06That is sucked now to minus 29.
05:08The diff is not in our favor.
05:11Yeah, and in years past, as much as we made fun of the term guards ball, that seems to have
05:16been vanquished.
05:17This is not a guards ball team.
05:19And what I mean by that is they're not manufacturing runs.
05:22They were 0-9 again last night.
05:23Runners in scoring position.
05:24They're one of the least clutch teams in Major League Baseball by the advanced numbers.
05:28They don't do any of those little things that we had kind of mocked them for doing, which, looking back,
05:34maybe we shouldn't have mocked them for doing it.
05:36Because what is fans?
05:37Fans want to see, you know, real legitimate, put the ball over the fence, home run, slugging, all that.
05:45And we would make fun of the team when they were stealing bases and bunting and just finding a way
05:51to get runs home, plating runs by any which necessary.
05:55Well, this team doesn't do that.
05:56But they don't do any of those little things.
05:58And so what is their identity?
05:59What is the one thing this team can hang their hats on right now?
06:02Well, they exist.
06:03They open up the ballpark.
06:04And then after the game, they close up the ballpark.
06:06And we have fireworks afterwards, right?
06:08I mean, that's what it is.
06:09Because I think the identity is, by the way, Dr. Britton had texted us that they removed the hook in
06:16the bone, not the whole bone.
06:17Okay.
06:19So maybe you can't hurt the hook twice?
06:22I don't know.
06:23I ain't no hand doctor.
06:26Clearly.
06:26Are you Dr. Hook?
06:27I've played Operation, but I've never...
06:29He put up his fingers as if he was Chris Elliott back in the day.
06:33His strong hand?
06:34No, you know what I was thinking of?
06:35I was thinking of the part in Kingpin where she goes,
06:37Hey, Captain Hook!
06:38Like, that's what I was thinking of.
06:40Sorry.
06:40When I did the finger, I thought of the landlady.
06:44And Woody Harrelson, one of my all-time favorite actors.
06:47Anyway, I think everybody's, like, thinking it.
06:52I just think nobody wants to say it because of last year.
06:54Right.
06:54And because of the division that they're in.
06:56You don't want to be wrong.
06:56Exactly.
06:57You don't want to give up.
06:57Well, because...
06:58But I have no problem being wrong.
06:59You know very well they're mighty sensitive over there.
07:02They are.
07:03All right?
07:06They love to play that one.
07:08Somebody's coming in tomorrow.
07:10Who?
07:11He's not very sensitive.
07:12No, he's good.
07:13He's fine.
07:14But okay.
07:14Have they earned...
07:16But they love to...
07:16Have they earned the right to be sensitive?
07:19Like, they're the one team in town that you can never count out.
07:24I understand that.
07:25But that's not earning the right to be sensitive.
07:27I just think that they look at it...
07:28I think they really should look at it like...
07:31Why respond to all that?
07:32Like, I remember a couple years ago...
07:33Well, this is a long time ago, Dustin had said the season was over
07:36and that they blew them up.
07:37The team account blew them up for crying out loud.
07:41And I'm a little bit hesitant because I don't...
07:43You know, I don't want Cade Smith's dad coming after me
07:44because, you know, he's been the one who's been the Indians and Guardians fan
07:47for 40 years.
07:48I forgot.
07:48You know, he's been the one who was born and raised here
07:50as an Indians and Guardians fan.
07:52I didn't realize that.
07:53Sorry, I overstepped my...
07:54Are you sure he wasn't just having some fun?
07:56I don't know.
07:57I got it sent...
07:58It's protected.
07:59I got it sent to me a bunch of times.
08:00So, I'm not allowed to be disappointed in the team that's 2-8 over their last 10.
08:07Sorry.
08:09Won't be the first, won't be the last, Dad, to get upset.
08:12Anywho...
08:13What is...
08:14Is it just as easy as something like,
08:17all right, this team is completely different from the team that started the year?
08:20They're so young.
08:21And Jose stinks this year.
08:22He's having, like, a career-worst year.
08:25It's a bad year.
08:26And it doesn't feel like the relief staff is the shutdown that it had been.
08:32Well, at the beginning of the year...
08:34I think that's the biggest thing.
08:35For me, at least.
08:37It doesn't feel like, let's get to the sixth with a one-run lead and the game's over.
08:42Who do you really feel confident with in the bullpen?
08:45Like, who do you, like, other than Kate Smith, oddly enough,
08:48who do you really feel comfortable with in the bullpen other than your closer?
08:52It's like, well, I got to get to my closer.
08:54It was.
08:55It was Holderman, right?
08:56Yeah.
08:57It felt really good about him.
08:58I...
08:59You know I loved Hunter Gattis.
09:01That's kind of...
09:02Eh.
09:03It's not...
09:04I was like Taron.
09:05Yeah.
09:05There's a lot of people...
09:06Apparently, you're getting texts that say that we should be ripping him
09:08and saying that this season's over.
09:10Well, and going after vote because, you know, it's so funny.
09:14The lineup that you look at right now...
09:17And again, it's almost unidentifiable
09:21from what we had started the season.
09:23We're so excited to get these young guys in the fold,
09:26but it's also really hard to rely on something like that for the duration.
09:32So many guys, like, run into a wall.
09:33Yeah.
09:33They only play so many games.
09:35And now all these guys are well over the amount of games that they're even used to.
09:39I mean, DeLauter had all the injuries.
09:41So this is, this is like bonus time.
09:43Yeah, it is.
09:44For somebody like him.
09:45So then when you factor that in, and again, back to the Jose situation,
09:50which if, if he is not going to have a chance to be Jose down the, what,
09:56last 40, 42 or so games of the year?
09:59Then, all right.
10:00Remember, you said yesterday, Kenny, why, why is Jose,
10:03why are his numbers always so down in the playoffs?
10:06Because he's a one-man show.
10:08No, no, no, John asked.
10:09John asked, and I told John.
10:10Well, yeah, you were explaining it.
10:11Yeah.
10:11And it was because he's been a one-man show in those lineups,
10:14and you certainly see come playoff time what you're up against.
10:18Like, you might be able to be formidable in a wildcard round,
10:20but you get to the ALDS.
10:21My God, the ALCS.
10:23It almost seems like an unfair advantage.
10:25Well, if you don't even have that in the fold down the stretch for these games,
10:30like your veteran guy who had been an MVP candidate every year in the American League,
10:34what do you have?
10:36Ah, you got a whole lot of frustration is what you have from the fan base.
10:40That's because I looked at Steven Voter over the last couple of weeks,
10:45you know, getting thrown out that Sunday game where he,
10:47I almost, I thought it was an attempt to get thrown out of the game a couple Sundays ago,
10:52but it started raining while he was giving him the business.
10:55Then he gets thrown out later in the week.
10:56I saw some people saying he's not getting his money's worth when he's getting tossed.
11:01Meaning, once he gets tossed, he just kind of walks his way back to the clubhouse.
11:06Like, they want to see Penela.
11:08We want to see a Lou Penela performance?
11:10Okay.
11:11You know fans love that stuff anyway.
11:14Yes.
11:15Okay.
11:16I didn't even realize that.
11:18I thought just getting thrown out of the game, but there is a performance to it.
11:21There is part of that.
11:22I'm not going to deny that part.
11:23So, okay.
11:25I guess we'd have to monitor that because just getting thrown out of the game.
11:28Because I remember last year, it was last year against the Angels.
11:31Jose got hit and people thought Steven Vogt should have went out there and really raised hell.
11:36And he didn't.
11:37And people were saying spineless, gutless, told all sorts of things about the Guardians at that point.
11:43And then they went out and they ended up winning the division.
11:46It's a different animal.
11:48And because of those two outbursts, are you trying things and trying to stoke something that isn't there?
11:55Because, again, you've got so many guys that are either new or rookies to your lineup.
12:02And it's going to make things – it did make things a little bit difficult.
12:05Now, you've brought in some veterans.
12:07It was giving us heart.
12:09I mean, Joe Adele's what?
12:11Has Joe Adele been fine for you?
12:13Yeah.
12:14Yeah.
12:15Yeah, absolutely.
12:16So, there's not been anything really nasty to get into that.
12:18It's just, man, we went from a week ago almost to the day where this was excitement and, hey, we
12:25got a chance here.
12:26Here we go to – I mean, good God.
12:29There's people who want us to raise the flag and say it's over now.
12:32Moves-wise, they've done everything they were supposed to to keep us happy except for, you know, win baseball games.
12:38Yeah.
12:39You just got to win the baseball games.
12:40They made moves at the deadline.
12:42They got rid of the guy that was booting the ball everywhere and seemed to not care.
12:46They brought up a rookie that everybody wanted to see, and he's actually come up and hit the ball well
12:51now.
12:52And then they just don't win the games.
12:55They just win the games, guys.
12:57Yeah.
12:58All right.
12:58Coming up, we'll bring this up again later, as sad as it is to say.
