00:00But it's Zianu, a silver for Romania.
00:03Slovenia, they had a great day yesterday.
00:05They go from the outside lane.
00:09They're not amongst the favourites here.
00:11Remic to go second, so.
00:14And Miradjur Amiric to come home.
00:17And she was a finalist in fifth place in the 400.
00:21Musgrave was also a finalist.
00:23She finished eighth there.
00:25And then Bennett to come home for Great Britain.
00:28So, powerful line-up for the Brits.
00:30They have won this title in 2000.
00:33Germany's a pass winner as well in 1996.
00:37Fair late to bring them home.
00:38And Kuske to bring them out.
00:42So, interesting here.
00:43The Americans haven't gone with Stephanie Varquez, have they?
00:46She hasn't come into the team.
00:47So, it's Lewis Harris, Adams comes into the team.
00:50And Overton.
00:53Harris was, Adams I should say, seventh in that final.
00:56The Italians, Macchi brings them home.
00:59Castellani leads them out.
01:00They're a good team.
01:01They broke the national record in the heat.
01:03It was very close between Italy, Australia, Great Britain and Germany in terms of the time.
01:07No change for Australia.
01:09A lot of these women have done a lot of racing.
01:11Alice Hills, I think it's their fifth run in the last three days over the 400.
01:15McAuliffe has been involved in so much.
01:18So has Watts and Herdman.
01:19And so, they've done so well here.
01:21It's a Duke who goes.
01:22Lawrence, Ugoi, Ebyadi.
01:24And of course, we think of the Nigerian women who never really got a crack at it in the 4x1
01:28with a false start today.
01:30Let's hope they have more luck here.
01:32Jamaica have already had a good day with the relays.
01:35The youngster, Dixon, to Herbert, to Dickinson, to Fowler.
01:38But I'm not sure if they're quite ready to take a big scalp here.
01:43And India, they were a fair way behind most of the others in the heat.
01:46But it's great to see their participation continue to increase and continuing to improve.
01:52Chattare there to go in third place.
01:57The United States were the fastest through the heats at 3.32.66.
02:01And then Italy at 3.33.63.
02:04So it's almost a second, almost a second between the first team and the second.
02:10And then it was crowded up behind them with Australia, Great Britain and Germany.
02:33So the 4x4.
02:43The United States have won this event on 13 occasions.
02:54And as you know and we know, an exaggerated stagger to start these 4x400s.
02:59So from the outside of Slovenia, Great Britain and Germany and then the United States.
03:04So Germany's up pretty well early.
03:06And then back to Italy, Australia.
03:09Sorry, Herman goes there.
03:10And then Nigeria, Jamaica and then a gap to India.
03:15So in that back straight.
03:17So going for the United States is Lewis.
03:19Herman for Australia.
03:20Castellani for Italy.
03:22So good run there by Lewis.
03:25No surprises there for the United States.
03:27Of course it goes for Germany.
03:28They went out, Harvard now being swallowed up.
03:30And Dixon for Jamaica.
03:32So the first change about to come up.
03:34It's the USA and Great Britain that are probably showing the way.
03:39Herdman's coming through well for Australia.
03:40They're probably in third spot and rallying Slovenia.
03:44So the first of the changes, let's see.
03:46Batten goes to the US first.
03:48I think goes to the Australians second.
03:50And Great Britain in third spot.
03:53Great legs.
03:56And a brilliant second half.
03:58To come here.
04:01United States.
04:03It's Watts in hot pursuit here for the Australians.
04:06And she's going great guns.
04:08She's come through on the inside of Harris.
04:12Big first 230 meters from Watts.
04:16But now Harris takes her over again.
04:19And Nigeria closing behind.
04:22Watts has an awkward style, Rob.
04:24But she usually is very strong late.
04:27You look as if she's gone.
04:28But she's normally pretty powerful late.
04:30Harris has done the job.
04:32Watts will rally a little bit here.
04:34Great Britain back at third.
04:35And have a look at Watts here rally.
04:36As we come through.
04:38And we get to halfway.
04:39And now Charlotte McAuliffe, who was so brilliant, wasn't she, in the mixed relay, has the lead for Australia at
04:46halfway from the United States.
04:48She was magnificent in that mixed relay.
04:51She ran the leg of her life to put them in contention.
04:55And she's pulling away here.
04:57McAuliffe ran so well in the mixed relay.
05:00But look at the muscular Adams closing the gap.
05:03She's got her in her sights.
05:04And, of course, she was very good in the individual Adams.
05:07So there's no surprise there.
05:09And then there's a big gap.
05:10There's a big battle going on.
05:12Slovenia's in the mix for third.
05:13And they've got a very good anchor runner to come.
05:16So Charlotte McAuliffe, who's already had medals two years ago in Peru.
05:21And medals here now being attacked by Adams.
05:24It's USA and Australia.
05:26And then a gap.
05:27Great Britain have rallied here.
05:28So the last leg coming up for the United States.
05:31It's Overton.
05:32For Australia, it's Alice Hill, who made the final.
05:35And then a long gap to Great Britain in third place.
05:38Bennett to bring them home.
05:40What a drive.
05:41And what an opportunity here.
05:43The Americans are on their feet in the crowd.
05:46It could just be too much.
05:50Overton has got a gap of about 20 metres here.
05:54And she's pulling away.
05:56And look at the battle for bronze, by the way.
05:59Medju Muric's making the big run for Slovenia.
06:01So they're about to go past Great Britain.
06:04And can they get to Australia here?
06:06It's USA all the way.
06:08The Aussies in second place.
06:09Slovenia go through for third.
06:11But the United States are going to dominate.
06:14They've won this race now on 14 occasions.
06:16Alice Hill hanging on for second.
06:18And now Great Britain with Bennett are rallying as well.
06:22It's USA first.
06:23Australia will be second.
06:25They'll be just outside their national record.
06:27Great Britain third.
06:28Slovenia for then Germany.
06:30Jamaica behind those.
06:33And then Italy and India as well.
06:38Well, in the end, it was a margin, wasn't it?
06:42It was a margin.
06:43But Rob, for a lot of the race, it was very exciting.
06:46It was a brilliant two-way battle which just kept on delivering.
06:51But the Americans on the last leg just had too much.
06:56By the way, brilliant end to that leg for Bennett of Great Britain because she was beaten.
07:02It looked like she was relegated to fourth.
07:06And despite that national under-20 record for these Slovenians, Bennett had the strength to bring Great Britain back into
07:13the bronze medal position, having been overtaken.
07:16But the Americans have just got a stranglehold on this event.
07:19They were too powerful.
07:21And despite a really spirited effort from the Australians, the host nation just had too much.
07:28Well, for Xanthi Watson, Charlotte McAuliffe, a second medal here at these games.
07:33Yes, the USA are powerful on that.
07:36And they didn't bring their number one in, which was pretty interesting.
07:40Adams was strong.
07:41McAuliffe's had a fantastic program here.
07:44She's about to go to college in the United States.
07:48And she's going to go on a high.
07:51USA for the 14th time.
07:53Australia have got a great record in this race.
07:56Gold medalist in 1990.
07:57And now a third silver medal and two bronze.
08:00It's been so successful over the years.
08:04And the Brits, of course, always a strength in relay racing.
08:08And they came to the fore.
08:09Slovenia are building, aren't they?
08:11They are really building.
08:12They've got a very good team.
08:13And you can see the excitement there from that Australian quartet behind the United States.
08:18So it's USA.
08:19It's 329.15.
08:21That's probably the second fastest Australian under 20 team.
08:25I may be wrong there.
08:27The record is 330.38.
