00:01so they are away what's the tempo going to be like 65 and a half second laps sort of give
00:08you
00:09a time around about 405 that's pretty quick so they normally go pretty hard to try and get a
00:14position and then it can get a little pedestrian Kaleu goes up early oh gee it's slow isn't it
00:21look how slow this is has somebody got to take the initiative here and move around
00:26perhaps not for the moment so Miller the German sort of strolls to the lead here and now the
00:37Japanese Kida comes and also Lincoln of the United States so it's pedestrian to say the least Rob
00:45well that's quite extraordinary and Amare comes over and instantly gets her heels clipped by
00:52it's to go that is the problem when it's this slow absolutely nobody is willing to take this on
01:00they've almost run a minute for the first 300 meters and anybody who doesn't have a lightning
01:07quick finish would do well to change this current scenario very very quickly and there's always the
01:13danger of a clip of heels and an accidental fall this is far far too slow we were talking about
01:2065 second laps at 405 have a look at that 78 seconds through the first 400 it's surprising I thought
01:27the Kenyans would be more aggressive than this somebody is going to go a long way out here they
01:35just have to we know that it just can't stay like this it's almost impossible to think that they can
01:43go
01:43another 400 meters like this so and two fallers Bruce that's exactly what happens when it's that slow
01:50Miller Roberts and also one of the favorites Kaleiu so that's terrible luck for the Australian and now Miller's
01:56just taken off here so it was coming wasn't we to have another look here so the push the fall
02:02and then Miller goes
02:03over the top of Kaleiu so one of the favorites has hit the deck it had to happen one way
02:09or the other
02:10so we've got 800 meters to go Chepchia is in a good spot she's wide and she's up the front
02:17but she's
02:18out of trouble Amare's inside of her Kaleiu has recovered Roberts has recovered they probably
02:24Rob because it's been so slow they're probably still in the mix so to speak well it's absolutely
02:30crazy out there one of the athletes has lost a spike as well I think it might be the Moroccan
02:36in second
02:37place El Busi so she's on the inside of Chepchia here so we'll watch for that what a strange old
02:47final
02:47Mancha Amare and the spike is on the track in lane one no one's moved it they're about to come
02:55round
02:55with 85 meters to go the spikes on the ground so you'll see that in a moment so man there
03:02we are
03:02great pick up Rob let's have a look at this one treads on it one almost treads on it as
03:10we come down
03:10here to get the bell and four now have sorted themselves out and Steggles on the back of the
03:17three Africans a lap to go strange race and for the first time really for the first time in this
03:25final
03:25they're actually doing some real running so it's Chepchia here leading into the back straight from
03:30Mancha Amare and Steggle who was so good here in the championships trying to hang on in the back
03:36Kenya Kenya and Ethiopia and USA not that far away actually Steggle with a bit of a chance here so
03:45400 to
03:46go Mancha's got the lead Chepchia is at her and just behind them is Amare and look at Steggle look
03:53at the
03:53American not without a chance with 300 to go she's rallying here the crowd are gonna roar as they
04:00come into the straight Mancha being tackled by Steggle Chepchia is all over the place and then Amare
04:07Mancha kicking back Chepchia trying to get to them Steggle can't quite get to Mancha Mancha in front
04:13Steggle will have a dive late she'll have a dive late Mancha Steggle she dove she did dive but she
04:21didn't
04:21quite get there it's Mancha over Steggle and in third place Chepchia and then Amare well a strange race
04:34it gave us no joy early and yet the last lap was so thrilling
04:41and you know I thought Steggle was going to win that because she's broken her 800 pb this year and
04:47she's got down to 201 it was beautifully teed up for her but Mancha somehow Bruce somehow withstood
04:57the diving advancing American that race was absolute carnage
05:03I think for many of those young women Rosie if they had their time again they would do something
05:09different in the first 400 meters I think they'd do quite a lot of things quite differently Bruce that was
05:14a really odd way to see this final plan out I thought perhaps when we came around to 300 meters
05:20we saw about 58 59 seconds through that opening 300 somebody might think okay this is this is
05:26ridiculous we've got to take it on here otherwise it's going to be an insane burn up nobody wanted it
05:33nobody fancied it very unusual for a championship final normally we might see a slow opener but then it
05:38relatively quickly sorts itself out from there not this time
05:41Rob
