00:00Narrated Al-Burah bin Azib
00:02When the Prophet ﷺ came to Medina, he stayed first with his grandfathers or maternal uncles
00:09from Ansar.
00:10He offered his prayers facing Baitul Maktis, Jerusalem, for 16 or 17 months, but he wished
00:16that he could pray facing the Kaaba at Mecca.
00:19The first prayer which he offered facing the Kaaba was the Asir prayer in the company of
00:24some people.
00:25Then one of those who had offered that prayer with him came out and passed by some people
00:29in a mosque, who were bowing during their prayers, facing Jerusalem.
00:33He said addressing them,
00:35By Allah, I testify that I have prayed with Allah's Messenger ﷺ facing Mecca, Kaaba.
00:42Hearing that, those people changed their direction towards the Kaaba immediately.
00:46Jews and the people of the scriptures used to be pleased to see the Prophet ﷺ facing Jerusalem
00:52in prayers, but when he changed his direction towards the Kaaba during the prayers, they
00:56disapproved of it.
00:57Al-Burah added,
00:59Before we changed our direction towards the Kaaba, Mecca, in prayers, some Muslims had died
01:04or had been killed, and we did not know what to say about them, regarding their prayers.
01:09Allah then revealed,
01:10And Allah would never make your faith prayers to be lost, i.e. the prayers of those Muslims
01:15were valid.
