00:00Okay. Brian Schottenheimer, he can do no right, of course, with the fan base. And yesterday, the storyline tried to
00:08get created after this clip from his press conference in responding to Todd Archer's question, how can GP get himself
00:16more involved?
00:16I think, you know, GP is one of those guys where I don't ever see him really affected, Todd, in
00:22terms of, you know, the emotion. Does he get the ball? Does he not get the ball? These guys, you
00:27know, play a lot of snaps. I think part of it is us rotating those guys through. But he needs
00:31to understand that he impacts us in the running game as well. And, you know, he's got to do the
00:36same thing in the run game, picking up safeties and blocking corners, just like Javante does picking up blitzes so
00:44he can catch balls.
00:44And that's part of the team-first mindset, and GP does understand that. And, you know, when he's going, they're
00:52going to play soft to his side. When he's not going, then the safeties get pretty good runs at our
00:56backs, and that's got to improve.
00:57We didn't see anything wrong with it. Bobby said it is necessary sometimes with pickings for those types of reminders.
01:04Did you feel like this was going to become something when he said it?
01:08No, I mean, I actually, you know, I like it because it was really unprompted. That's not, I mean, that's
01:16not exactly, Todd wasn't asking for all that, but he got it, you know, which is great.
01:21And that's what Shottie's feeling right now about him. And I, you know, when you give a guy, really, this
01:27is the standard for all players, but especially a guy that you're labeling your franchise tag and giving him $27
01:33million, you want him to be a great football player, not just a great wide receiver.
01:37And I think that's what he's, he's lacking right now. I don't know. It's debatable if he's being a great
01:42receiver, but he's not, he's not being a great football player.
01:46And that's, that's the difference. And that's the, it's the little things to help the team and you help the
01:51team here. And now you're not one dimensional. Now you are going to open up some things.
01:55And so I think it's, I think it's really good that, that he said that needed. And I don't see
02:01a problem with it. We, we, we want our, the head coach and whoever you're interviewing to be, you know,
02:07forthright and all that.
02:08And then when they do, they, you know, they get, they get kind of spun around, but I'm glad that
02:12he says that. I feel like Shottie is about as honest and upfront as any coach that I can remember
02:18here in these press conferences.
02:20Nick, you know, there used to be, it's been said about certain receivers before, like, Oh, that's a guy. You
02:25got to get him the ball early.
02:26Like, get him the ball. Like they used to be said about Odell Beckham Jr. Like get Odell Beckham Jr.
02:30The ball early so that he, he stays engaged and he's, he's locked in and he feels like, all right,
02:34I'm here. I'm, I'm in the game.
02:36Do you think there's any of that with, with pickings? Like maybe they look at it and go, Hey, how
02:40do we just scheme something up to get him the ball in his hands early so that we've got him
02:43engaged.
02:44We got him locked in focused, like, all right, ball's coming my way. My head's up.
02:48I think I didn't get to a hundred percent what they have to do. Like very, very early in the
02:52game, get him going.
02:53Cause then he's, he's out there having fun. He wants to do that. He wants to do the, the little,
02:58I forgot, I don't even know what it's called.
03:00A little hand motion, you know, peekaboo type thing that he does. He wants to get, get involved and do
03:04all that.
03:05And I think you got to get him going. The one thing that I didn't like that I heard from
03:09Shottie just now is, is, you know, when, when, when you were playing that over, I was thinking,
03:15and he said, I don't ever think GP is one that gets upset and changes his mindset when he doesn't
03:22get the ball.
03:23And the great ones always do, you know, that's, that's the one thing.
03:27And I'm not saying he needs to have a distraction, but I remember when I was younger and before I
03:33worked for here and urban would have those rants and, and deads would have them.
03:37You know, I saw Antonio Bryant one time do a backflip on the sideline cause he was mad.
03:42He wasn't getting the ball. And then CDs had his little pouty moment sometimes too.
03:47So I got, you know, but, but there's a good solution to those guys. Give them the ball, you know,
03:52give them the ball.
03:53And so, um, I kind of want GP to be that like that a little bit more, but either way,
03:59get them early, get them going early.
04:00I think the important, do you want him to be measured or do you really want like that?
04:06Cause I mean, that, that could go, that could go ugly real fast too.
04:12True. I want him to want the ball though. I mean, and maybe he does, maybe he does.
04:16I mean, he, I think Bobby's on to that, that when he says, get, get him the ball early.
04:21So he's not checked out either. You know, let's have a game.
04:24You had three catches in the first drive of school. You know, what if he had five?
04:28Now you're already up to a hundred yards. Have you ever seen a 200 yard game?
04:31I mean, whatever it is, but I keep them, keep them going. You're right. You're right.
04:35Feel free to go out and just in, you know, complain on the sideline could, could go the wrong way,
04:40but I kind of want these guys to, to want the ball. I'm not saying he doesn't.
04:46Um, I think there's a simple way to do it though, is, is to, to get them the football and,
04:50and, you know,
04:51they, they better scheme some things up. I don't know if Philadelphia blitz is a lot.
04:55I don't think that they do, but they're going to. And, um, and I think it's just,
05:00this is one of those games where the Cowboys should be able to, to, you know,
05:03get these guys open on the outside.
05:05Nick Eatman right here on one Oh five, three, the fan has been a lot of self-appointed Jerry
05:09transcribers over the years. We are relying on you now to be the Quinnen transcriber.
05:14Uh, what did, uh, what a big Q have to say yesterday.
05:17It was a little better, right? I think he was a little, he, he, he wasn't as he's got those
05:22standard
05:23one-liners, you know, like, let me think about that. And, uh, I gotta watch the tape, but,
05:28um, he was, you know, he's saying yesterday, what, what you want them to say about, I gotta
05:34step up. I gotta be better dominant and those kinds of things. Um, and Dak says it too.
05:39I think at this point, everyone's just like, all right, I gotta see it, you know, because
05:44they all say the right thing. We just want them to go out and dominate. I think he's been
05:49playing pretty well. Um, you know, I, I know that he's got, you know, he's from his position,
05:55he's doing, I think a good job. I mean, I, you don't want Quinnen Williams to lead your
06:01team in sacks. He is right now. He's tied for the most, uh, tackle for losses than any defensive
06:07tackle. So he's, you know, he's doing, he's doing a really good job, but it's surrounded
06:12by guys that, that aren't, I mean, if they don't get anybody rushing off the edge, this is not
06:18going to be a good defense and it's not going to be a good team, which do you think is
06:22a
06:22bigger challenge for the Cowboys right now, or, or a more troubling thing for them to confront
06:28a defense that you're standing around, basically waiting for it to click into place. And there's
06:34not much you can do other than just time on task with a new scheme or an offense that struggled
06:40for two games. That's been together now for two straight years. And you're not exactly sure
06:44what's wrong. Give me the question again. Like, what are you saying? Which is more concerning or
06:51troubling you think for the Cowboys to have to face right now? The question of, do we just need
06:55more time on defense or on the offensive side where it's like, we don't know what's wrong with
06:58this group that's played together for two years and is struggling all of a sudden. Yeah, that's a,
07:02that's a good one. Um, I, I, I think it's, it's still more troubling when you, when all you need
07:09is time, you know, for defense. I mean, like the fact that you've done almost everything you could
07:14really do. Um, and other than, you know, trade for other pass rushers or whatever, but I mean,
07:21they've done a lot. They put a lot of resources, you know, I heard somebody told me yesterday and
07:26we were just chatting off to the side, like this coaching staff had just about everything that
07:30they need and it still isn't working yet on defense. So I'm more troubled by they've thrown
07:37everything at the defense and it's actually worse right now than it was before. Other than
07:43let's look, the offense is a sample size for the offense has been pretty good. Let's see if this
07:48is, is it even a trend? It's two games, a trend probably, but let's see if it gets turned around
07:53this week. Nick Eatman, Dallas Cowboys.com brought to you by the Windstar World Casino and Resort.
07:58You and Tommy had the preview of Dallas Cowboys.com. What's your, uh, what's your look at
08:03Philadelphia looking like? Oh, they're a hot mess. Uh, but their defense is still, you know,
08:11they they've got guys over there, a defense, um, that it, it, it kind of, it kind of looks to
08:17me
08:17like a flip version of what the Cowboys are going through because like their defense, their guys are
08:23pretty much there. Um, but they haven't gotten any sacks either. I mean, they only got eight sacks.
08:29They're not getting any turnovers. They're not, I mean, their problems are the same except for the
08:34fact that, you know, their quarterback and all that, but they, but they've got the same kind
08:38of issues. Um, but I think they'll, they'll be inspired. Obviously Monday night football Cowboys,
08:44the, uh, the hatred and all that stuff. And this is that swing game. This is the game for both
08:48teams.
08:49This is the one where you're going to find out like, all right, well, if you win, you got a
08:54little
08:54something here and you're, you're, you're, you could be the tied for the, you know, the team,
08:59the division lead with wins. But if you lose this game, I think it's going to be one where I,
09:05people are going to start to say, all right, well, how's this, how's this year going to go?
09:08I'm not saying you turn into sellers, but I think this is the one, especially for the Cowboys.
09:13If you don't win this game, um, it's, it's going to be a, it's going to be a longer year.
09:17I really believe this is a swing game.
09:19Would, would, would this be if they, would this be the most embarrassing loss of, I mean,
09:25probably not of Dak's career, but I mean, seriously, like the most embarrassing loss this last five
09:30years. I don't know. Worse than Tampa of this year. I would say, uh, what do you mean?
09:36Jalen Daniels has less skins on the wall than Tanner McKee. I trust, I trust Jalen more than Tanner.
09:42Yeah. After you watched him. Well, that's a division, that's a division game on the road.
09:47The Tampa game was you're at home. Yeah. No, that's Tampa was bad. I just quarterbacks that
09:54can move like Jalen. And McKee at least can't run, right? Nick. Well, I, I, yeah, he's not,
10:03he's a, he's a pocket guy for, for sure. Um, it's going to be interesting to see how Philly kind
10:08of lines this up and plays it. But yeah, I expect this to be, this is going to be a
10:13tough game for
10:14the Cowboys though. So I don't, I don't sit there and say this because I'm not picking them to win
10:18the game. So I, I'm not going to sit here and go, this is the most embarrassing lot. Cause I'm
10:21not
10:21picking them to win this game. Um, the Cowboys, I just don't, I'm just, I think they're better
10:28and, and it won't surprise me if they win, but I'm not going to pick them to win this game
10:32because,
10:33you know, they, they haven't shown here in the last few weeks that they, that they can handle
10:40back. Um, they bounced back after Rio barely won that game. I give them credit for that
10:47winning in Houston. But right now I just, it's going to come down. It comes down to more than
10:52just players. It comes down to coaching, come down to staff, you know, this is staff that's
10:58a lot more accomplished and they're at home. So I think Philly, you know, I'm just not picking
11:03the Cowboys to win. I don't think Philly is a better team. I really don't. But, um, all the
11:07other intangibles right now, I mean, what, what are the Cowboys doing? Well, they're not
11:12doing anything well. So when you put, put them on the road in a place like that, I'll
11:17be, I'll be surprised if they win. We'll talk to you Monday in Philly with your new truck.
11:22I hope so. Now, now I have to go, I have to go get one.
11:25All right, go get it.
