Sumiyoshi Taisha is the head shrine of the approximately 2,300 Sumiyoshi shrines located throughout Japan. This shrine is known as the guardian deity of safe voyages, agriculture, waka poetry, martial arts, and sumo. The architectural style of the main hall is called “Sumiyoshi-zukuri,” characterized by a straight gable roof and overhanging eaves.
