00:00This is Straight Outta Flushing, brought to you by your local Ford stores.
00:04Ford F-150 is the official truck of the New York Mets.
00:09Welcome back to another edition of Straight Outta Flushing, your boy Dexter Henry,
00:13with my guy Tyler Ward, a.k.a. Wardy.
00:16Wardy, how you doing, man? We are close to the trade deadline.
00:19We're recording this less than 24 hours away. How are you feeling?
00:23Dex, I'm anxious. We've seen some moves begin.
00:26We're going to get into more, but the floodgates are officially open,
00:30which means these are ticking time bombs going on right now, Dex.
00:33More things could happen within the next two seconds of us talking.
00:36I think a laundry list of things are going to happen tomorrow,
00:38not just for the Mets, but across Major League Baseball.
00:40I will be in studio there in Manhattan to cover it all, which I'm really excited for.
00:44So I'm anxious. I'm excited. I feel like I'm having emotion right now.
00:47But more than anything, I'm just ready to talk some Mets baseball.
00:50So let's get into it. Yeah, let's get into it.
00:52Wardy just talked about we will be doing a live trade deadline show
00:55with our guy, Ryan Sampson.
00:57The three of us will be in studio breaking down the trade deadline
01:00for you talking Mets about that, too.
01:02So it'll be very fun. I'm looking forward to that.
01:04Wardy and I back together in studio. It's been a little bit.
01:06That's going to be a fun one. But let's talk about it.
01:08Sunday, the Mets, they got your boy.
01:12I'm putting another boy on Wardy here.
01:13Freddy Peralta. Actually, that's my guy. I love that trade.
01:16That's my guy. Maybe I didn't love it after.
01:18Mets trade him to the Rays, Wardy.
01:21And this is what they got back because this is the topic of conversation here.
01:26Emilia Impetrae, Aiden Smith, Gary Gilhill.
01:30Dope name. Got to love that name.
01:33Dope name. So that's three top 30 Rays prospects.
01:36OK, for the two time all star in Freddy Peralta.
01:40We know all the stuff he's set to reach free agency this season.
01:43Had a five and nine record.
01:44Just sub five ERA this year.
01:47Didn't have much value.
01:49The Mets reportedly were seeking at least one top hundred prospect in baseball.
01:53That did not happen.
01:55I've seen a lot of talk about this on social media, Wardy.
01:59Did the Mets get enough for Freddy Peralta?
02:03That is the question.
02:05Did they get enough when you look at Peralta's current value?
02:09What the Mets surrendered to acquire him in the first place and then what they've got back now.
02:14So how do you look at this deal?
02:15Did the Mets get enough here?
02:17I think from the standpoint of where Peralta's value was at, the teams that were in his market
02:22and a bunch of teams that swan and missed for Tarek Skubel because, of course, he lands
02:27with the big bad Dodgers, as we could have all seen from a mile away.
02:30The Rays were one of multiple teams like the Brewers and others that had Peralta not as
02:35the number one on their list, but as a number two or a number three should Tarek not go to
02:39them.
02:39So it has a lot to do with the market.
02:41And given what the market was, it's hard to look at this trade and think that this wasn't
02:46enough for the Mets.
02:47When you bear in mind, you brought in three top 30 prospects in your organization, all
02:51of which are going to be higher rankings in your organization, more than likely than where
02:54they were for the Tampa Bay Rays.
02:55Why is the Rays are one of the better farms in baseball?
02:58The Mets are a bottom five farm currently in baseball.
03:01So it's pretty night and day.
03:02So when you look at, for example, you know, the prospects, we'll get into them all in a
03:06second, but just the summary of Aiden Smith, who is ranked the 15th overall prospect outfield
03:10prospect in the Rays organization to then the 26th ring prospect, that being a Mr. Gary
03:16Gil Hill, who is in fact a New York native.
03:18He's from Westchester County.
03:19So that's a nice little rekindling the relationship a little bit there.
03:22And then you have Petrie, the second base prospect, who I plan to say about as well.
03:26These are guys that currently entering the Mets farm are likely going to be higher up the
03:30ladder for them.
03:31So again, this is what David Stearns was hoping to do entering this deadline was to
03:35bolster this farm as much as he can.
03:37And while yes, we can nip it here.
03:39And maybe for example, would I have personally like a top five prospect from the Rays and
03:42return instead of getting three guys scattered from 15 to 26, 27, of course, but there's
03:48a reason why these things are easier said than done.
03:50So I think a lot of it's going to be contingent as to the other deals that we see across
03:53Major League Baseball.
03:54And that'll give us a better idea as to, okay, did David Stearns miss the mark yet again?
03:58Or is this a situation where, you know, it's actually valid for what he got in return?
04:02I think by the time we finish our show tomorrow night, around 6, 7 p.m.
04:06Eastern, we're going to have a really better grasp as to how the Mets fared here with other
04:11trades, you know?
04:12Yeah.
04:13No, I agree with you.
04:14I think how I looked at this, they got three prospects for Freddie Peralta.
04:19And I looked at these prospects.
04:20And again, I say this all the time.
04:22They are prospects.
04:22Wardy and I, we have no idea how these guys are going to pan out.
04:26We can only hope here's what we do know though, Tampa Bay, one of the better farm systems
04:32in all of baseball, right?
04:34So their guy, you're looking at the highest ranked guy here, um, in Aiden Smith, who's
04:39ranked 15th in the Tampa Bay organization, 15 in Tampa Bay's organization is not the same
04:45as, you know, the Mets right now.
04:48Right.
04:48Even, even there, the value of their prospects have always been higher.
04:52And has it always panned out for them?
04:54No, he was the centerpiece of the, uh, Randy Ares-Arenda trade, um, as well too, and them
04:59getting him back.
05:00We'll see now these three guys come in and I believe they're immediately ranked in the
05:05Mets top 20, I believe coming to the Mets farm system, right?
05:09So it bolsters their farm system.
05:10And as you've said constantly, Wardy, well, so much of this also is not just about what
05:15the Mets get and do these guys make the majors, but can you, can you use this to then
05:20get another player down the road that's going to be part of the good Mets team?
05:24So look, we know the Mets reportedly were seeking a top hundred prospect in the process
05:29of trying to trade Freddie Peralta.
05:31I think that was a tall order, but to get these guys out of the raised farm system, and
05:37then, you know, we'll get into the guy specifically, but Emilio Impetrae, who is supposedly the highest
05:43disregarded out of all these prospects right now because of his low strikeout rate, which
05:48is very impressive.
05:49And he puts a ball in play.
05:51This could be very interesting in what you see.
05:53Now, some people are going to look at this, Wardy, and say, yeah, but the Mets gave up,
05:58you know, two highly touted prospects and they had back, you got back, you know, Freddie
06:04Peralta and it didn't go well.
06:06Here's the thing.
06:07It's done.
06:08It's a sunk cost.
06:10It's all done here.
06:12You can't worry about that anymore.
06:14What you got back in return to your point, time will tell, not just at the end of this
06:18deadline based on what else happens, but you have to see how these prospects pan out, what
06:22the Mets maybe keep them in the organization.
06:24Do they flip them for somebody else?
06:26Time will tell.
06:27I got to be honest, like I'm not moved much on either side, but I think the Mets did as
06:32good as they could.
06:33And I'm trusting the fact that David Stearns got something out of Tampa's organization as
06:38opposed to somebody else's organization.
06:39If there's any benefit to trusting Stearns when it comes to making deals, it's a lofty
06:49task.
06:49I understand that.
06:50However, he has made more moves with Tampa than any other organization for the most part
06:54since becoming team president.
06:55If it's not the Brewers, it's been the Rays.
06:57And both of these teams have in common.
06:59Great player development, analytically sound, smaller market.
07:02So for David, I'm curious to see how this is going to pan out with the remaining moves
07:06day he has left, but it goes with that same between the AJ Minter trade that we broke down
07:09recently as well as now this one for Freddie Peralta.
07:12The obvious trend is that the Mets are just focusing on getting the best talent back regardless
07:16on positional need.
07:17And just again, bolstering that farm more than anything else.
07:20Now, the Mets can get creative and maybe pair one of the other guys that they have left
07:24via trade with other guys that they have left via trade or one guy that they plan on trading
07:28with.
07:28Maybe someone up there were a bit more reluctant to to get a greater return.
07:32I'm not opposed to that necessarily, depending on what exactly that return is going to be.
07:36So all I know is that my expectations aren't high for the Mets to do anything drastic from
07:41now until 6 p.m. tomorrow at the time of his talking.
07:44But I do anticipate that there's going to be a lot more change and a lot more prospects
07:48added to this farm.
07:49Yeah, I agree with you on that.
07:51Let's get into the prospects here, though, Wardy, because, you know, we did this last time
07:55we talked about the mentor trade.
07:56So when you look at this, which prospect is the real prize for you?
08:00Is it Petrae?
08:01Is it Smith?
08:01Is it Gil Hill?
08:04I from what you're just reading very quickly, what you're hearing from people, Petrae appears
08:09to have the highest floor because of his contact skills, plate discipline, something I really
08:15value, doesn't strike out a ton.
08:17I like that a lot.
08:20Aiden Smith, good combination of power or speed, but does have that swing and miss risk
08:27that you'll see with a player like him.
08:29And then Gil Hill, you know, as a pitcher, former highly regarded prospect, I should say.
08:35He's a former top 100 prospect.
08:37Top 100 prospect.
08:38Right.
08:38So, you know, the Mets did kind of get one in a way.
08:40If we want to be loose in a way, top 100 in a way, they got what they're looking for.
08:45Or he's kind of stalled at the double A level in terms of his development.
08:50Right.
08:50But look, we don't know if the Mets have a future regular out of these three.
08:58Right.
08:58We have no idea.
09:01But maybe a way you have to look at these deals sometimes, at least the way I'll try
09:04to.
09:04And I'm curious what you think.
09:06Sometimes when you get three players like this for one, right, three top 30 prospects in
09:11a raised organization, it's three chances for you to develop one of these guys.
09:16And maybe one hits and becomes a major league player.
09:19And if so, you know, if you go one for three, that ain't bad.
09:24You know what I mean?
09:25That's not bad.
09:26So what do you think?
09:27Who's the prize in your eyes?
09:28I'm going with Petrie because I just like the bat skills and the plate discipline thus far.
09:34But who are you going with?
09:35Yeah.
09:35Again, I don't know if it's Petrie, Petrie, Potato, Potato.
09:39This is the name I feel like I'm going to picture for a while.
09:41I've heard both.
09:42Either way, I agree with you.
09:44I'm going with him, obviously, just because of the simple trend.
09:46You know, he's drafted in the second round back in 2024 by Tampa.
09:49And when we look at his hit tools, you know, he's currently, he was a 40 grade initially
09:53being scouted out, you know, to enter the MLB draft.
09:56But he has been very steady.
09:58I mean, his first year in a ball, he bad 299 with 805 OPS and had himself, you know, a
10:03really
10:03good sample in what was only 21 games, but a very good sample nonetheless.
10:07Then in 2025, you know, in a high A ball, he's batting roughly 270 with a 750 OPS in 118
10:14games.
10:15And then we see this season, huge jump for him that we've seen.
10:18He's gotten better from high A to double A now.
10:21He's batting collective 308 with a 438 on base and an 885 slug, 32 stolen bases, five
10:27home runs, 46 RBIs, a true, again, more your slap hitter type, but could get more of that
10:33power as he gets or, you know, kind of like AJ Ewing, for example, has been known for the
10:38home run ball, but he can absolutely hit a home run and kind of at any point, it just
10:41not necessarily built around his game right now, as he's still so young at the age of 21.
10:46It looks like with a million here, the Mets might actually have something as a future
10:49second base prospect, especially knowing that Marcus Simeon is not someone that should
10:53even be here next season, regardless of his dollars.
10:55And then you look at the other people that the Mets have in their farm right now.
10:59There really aren't many options.
11:00You know, Jet Williams was someone who they traded away in part because they had such a
11:04log jam of second base slash shortstop prospects.
11:06And now the Mets, you could argue, could absolutely look to bolster that again because of injuries
11:11and inconsistencies of not trading guys away.
11:13So now I agree with you.
11:14He's, he sticks out and he's gotten even better at double A this year.
11:17That's why I like a lot.
11:18He's batting 323 with a 943 OPS and just, just around 40 games so far this year.
11:23So hopefully he can continue that trend because he could find himself knocking the door at the
11:26major league level before you know his, his expectation is that he could hit the bigs
11:30as soon as next year, as is the case with Aiden Smith and Gary Gilhill.
11:34So for the Mets having an emphasis on not just bringing in prospects, but bringing in guys
11:38that could impact them as soon as next season, they did a pretty good job in that regard,
11:42depending on how their player development pairs.
11:43You know, that's obviously another great question.
11:46The Mets have looked good and bad at their player development, depending on the year,
11:49you know, 2025, it's so many things going right internally.
11:532026, they haven't, but it's been between also a lot of promotions internally guys blossoming
11:58at the major league level, as well as guys also taking a step back either because of
12:02injuries or just not being as consistent.
12:04You know, Jonathan's looked much sharper the past month and a half versus what he looked
12:08to begin the season in Syracuse.
12:10You know, Jack Weddinger opposite was very good to begin the year in Syracuse.
12:13Now he's not looking good in Syracuse, you know?
12:15So sometimes these things just happen in the normal 162, but all in all, I'm actually pretty
12:21happy with the return the Mets got.
12:22When I was initially evaluating it just in real time, it's like, okay, you got some prospects.
12:26That's it.
12:27No, the more I look at the more I say, okay, if the Mets don't trade these guys, they could
12:31actually have something again.
12:32Gary Gill Hill wouldn't shock me in the slightest if he found himself not only in AAA Syracuse
12:36next year, but you know how the Mets pitchers are, you know, they're going to be down everyone
12:39their mother a month and a half and going to give them a call probably by, you know, June.
12:43So we'll, we'll see what happens.
12:45Yeah, no, we'll, we'll see what happens.
12:47Look, you got to give these guys time.
12:49And again, Petrie, Petrie, I'm sorry if you've got your name wrong, Emiliano, I apologize.
12:54We'll figure it out at some point.
12:55I promise.
12:56Yeah.
12:57I really love the fact that he puts the ball in play.
13:00He's going to play discipline and doesn't strike out 10.4% strikeout rate for him.
13:05That's really good to see in a young player.
13:06Now, does that translate?
13:08And when he plays higher level ball, we'll see.
13:10Um, but I also liked this Morty said, the jump you've seen for him in average on base
13:14percentage, uh, slugging percentage, OPS, all getting better going from single A to double
13:20A.
13:20I think that's really dope to see.
13:22Now let's talk about a player on the roster that we're not going to lie to the people.
13:27We're not going to lie to you.
13:28Wardy and I were, uh, hoping is what I'll say that this person had a bounce back here
13:34and thought they could be an X factor for the Mets this year.
13:38That is Kodai Senga.
13:40Padre.
13:41That's your boy.
13:42That is, you got me back, man.
13:44Dex emphasis on B-O-Y.
13:47You were waiting for that one.
13:48You were waiting for that one.
13:49I've been waiting all season for that one.
13:51You know what?
13:52It is my boy and I have to own it because I said that he was going to be the
13:56X factor
13:56for the Mets, I thought he was going to have a big time season.
14:00That is not the case.
14:00Mine was Luis Robert.
14:01We're all, we're all in this together, Dex.
14:05You're right.
14:06You're right.
14:06We're all in this together.
14:08But my boy, Kodai Senga, um, the Padres have checked in on him.
14:14Um, as they are looking, trying to be a little creative, trying to find some rotation help,
14:19but let's keep it real.
14:20This is what the thing is with Kodai Senga.
14:22He's battled injuries.
14:23He's been ineffective.
14:26AJ Prowler, Kodai Senga is just a change of scenery away to beautiful, sunny San Diego
14:31to get back to his usual self.
14:32Well, that's what I'm going to hear.
14:34That's going to piss you off.
14:34It's going to piss me off more because that's my boy.
14:36That'll piss me off.
14:37It will.
14:38It's going to be terrible when you see him go there and he's going like six shuddy with
14:4110 Ks on the ghost fork.
14:43Can't.
14:43Can't have it.
14:44So here's the thing.
14:46I think this question I want to ask is should the Mets consider moving him?
14:52And people are going to be like, yeah, of course.
14:53Is that rhetorical Dex?
14:55Well, kind of.
14:57So I guess the question's more of if you're moving him,
15:03is this the Mets eating a bunch of his salary and is just getting some salary relief?
15:08Is that enough of a reason to move him?
15:09I say yes.
15:10I say yes.
15:12That is enough of a reason.
15:16We saw him pitch decently well against the Marlins or I don't know.
15:24Something tells me you're not going to say no to this or or try to try to laugh to see
15:29if you put it out, Dex.
15:31Is he more valuable as a 2027 reclamation project?
15:37I have to.
15:38I got to ask the question, man.
15:42Dex, this is this is equivalent of like saying, listen, I know we got rid of Alonzo.
15:48Oh, God.
15:49But we can give the answer some looks at first.
15:51I'm just saying it's pop.
15:53I'm just saying that's something we can do.
15:55I feel like that's even harsh for Kodai Senga.
15:57But I feel I hear your point.
15:58But it's it's it's it's in the it's in the it's in a similar conversation.
16:03Listen, listen, if this was like the past year of Senga not performing well, but we
16:08got him for like two and a half of very solid seasons, very different conversation we're
16:11having.
16:12But unfortunately, you know, to put this in context, the last time that Kodai Senga was
16:19a valuable starting pitcher to the New York Mets, I wasn't a father and my life was
16:25drastically different than what it is now.
16:28Like so many things were different, as was the case with you, probably Dex as well.
16:31I have aged 10 years in the past three years since then.
16:34And Kodai is acting like he's age 20 with the way that he hasn't been able to stay healthy.
16:38So for me, Kodai is just one of these people who it goes without saying.
16:42I respect the fact that he is trying to make it work in the organization.
16:46I respect that he wants it to work here.
16:49I appreciate that.
16:50But that hits staff years when it hasn't worked here for three years.
16:54Fair.
16:55So no reclamation project for Warty.
16:57I would have not for me.
16:58I would.
16:58I'm curious if you felt.
17:00Why would you what's what's the argument against?
17:02What's the argument against what I said and why Kodai Senga is still someone worth trying
17:07for one more year?
17:08Enlighten me.
17:08If you had to play devil's advocate here.
17:11Yeah.
17:11Okay.
17:11If I have to play devil's advocate here.
17:16You're going to hang on.
17:17You're going to say, well, hey, Dex and Warty, you're not that far removed for how he
17:22looked before he went down with the injury in 2025.
17:24He was great.
17:25Seven and one start, you know, before he tried to cover first and stepped on the bag wrong
17:30and then everything has changed since then.
17:31And you'll talk about how he was his first couple of years with the Mets.
17:35And here's the thing.
17:36If you would have before the injury, if we want to go like this before Kodai's 2025 injury,
17:42I would have said Kodai Senga was probably one of the best Mets free agent signings in
17:46the history of the club because of how we had pitched the value they had it at, had
17:50him at and all that.
17:53But, but you look even before the seven, one start in 2025, you go back to the year before
17:59and just him not being available.
18:01Availability is the best ability.
18:02He's not available.
18:03And then he's been ineffective now when he has been available.
18:07So what are we getting with here?
18:08I'm the person that always, and I said this earlier in the episode, I preach, you have
18:12to recognize my sunk cost is a sunk cost.
18:15It's a sunk cost.
18:16So I tried to give you the devil's advocate at the same time, but at the same time, I
18:20think doing responsible business is recognizing Wardy when it's a sunk cost.
18:25And, and let's just, let's, can we just keep it a buck here?
18:28We all know right here at this trade deadline, this roster needs to be cleaned up.
18:36So that's an understatement.
18:37And sometimes you got to take out some of the old, it's a loss.
18:41You're probably going to have to eat a good amount of the salary.
18:44It is what it is.
18:46Again, I know I'm saying that and it's not my money.
18:48I understand that.
18:51But I think if you're going into 2027, granted, I asked Wardy the question, if you're going
18:56into 2027 and you're saying, Hey, well, maybe, maybe we could see a reclamation project.
19:02Nah, man, nah, we've seen that.
19:04We've seen enough of this movie.
19:06My boy who I picked at the start of the year to be the X factor for the Mets has
19:11been a
19:12complete X, not a factor.
19:14Just X can't count on him.
19:16So I think it's time.
19:18The Padres, Hey, the Padres, if you're checking in, I don't, whoever, whoever's checking, check
19:24in some more, please, please check in, check in more.
19:28And David Stearns, if you can get this deal done, I just think it's, I'm, I think I listen
19:34AJ Preller.
19:35He's been, he's been all around the Mets pitching.
19:37Freddie did not go there.
19:38And I thought if Freddie was traded in the NL, the Padres had as good of a shot as any,
19:43you know, because that does make sense.
19:45But code, I also, I think makes sense, especially because of how the unique structures of his
19:49contract, the Padres not wanting to take on much as is.
19:53And the Padres are not the types that I think are going to be going out of their way to
19:57get
19:57like the top starter at the deadline.
19:58Now we say that as clay homes inevitably gets dealt there, but I'm just saying like, I'm not
20:03sure.
20:04I just think Preller is absolutely someone who we should be very mindful of what, what
20:08happens with the Mets.
20:09He's, he's going to do something.
20:11We don't know what, but he's, oh, he always has his hand hovering over the big red button
20:15to push.
20:15You know, it's like, just when you think all the Padres don't do shit, it's like, oh,
20:19Mason Miller.
20:19It's like, oh, Tanner Scott.
20:21It's like, oh, Jason Adam.
20:23Oh, Juan Soto.
20:25Like they just, they come out of nowhere.
20:26It's like, Preller's crazy.
20:28So we'll see.
20:29Nah, they're proactive.
20:31Preller's proactive.
20:31They're proactive.
20:32Yes.
20:33Say what you will about AJ Preller.
20:35Say what you will about the Padres shortcomings.
20:37But by God, is that man proactive?
20:39He's always on the phone.
20:40Always on the phone.
20:42Yes.
20:44It's what you want.
20:45It's what you want out your front office.
20:46All right.
20:47We both agree.
20:48Kodai Senga, if you can move him, you move him.
20:50Speaking of moving, the Mets still have several, at the time of this recording, several legitimate
20:55trade candidates that could be moved.
20:57Clay Holmes, who pitched another rehab start on Sunday in Brooklyn.
21:02He pitched, pitched well.
21:04It was four and a third innings.
21:07Gave up three earned runs.
21:08Here's the bottom line.
21:09He looked healthy.
21:10Okay.
21:11He looked healthy.
21:12This is what scouts wanted to see.
21:13There were a lot of scouts in attendance for his last start.
21:15I'm sure there were scouts in attendance in Brooklyn for the start on Sunday.
21:19Luke Weaver still on the board.
21:20You and I both think he has incredibly high value.
21:24Brooks Raley, who did not pitch on Sunday, will very likely be traded out of here.
21:31Tyrone Taylor, who's been hitting the cover off the ball lately.
21:34Showing power we haven't seen.
21:36Luis Robert Jr.
21:37is still a possibility.
21:38And then Huwazka Brazo there, who there was hug gate in the bullpen.
21:42People saw him hugging.
21:43Everybody.
21:43I was reacting because I was on my live stream earlier, and people were saying, oh, Brazo's
21:48doing the hugs.
21:49I'm like, all right, that's it.
21:50Apparently, that wasn't what was happening, however.
21:53No.
21:54And we've seen this before.
21:56So I want to say, the people who assume that, it wasn't like you were crazy.
21:59We've seen where guys, they're leaving it, giving hugs in the dugout or in the bullpen,
22:04and then they're traded.
22:05But at the time I was recording this, at the time, and I'm checking my phone, he's still
22:10with us.
22:12That sounds like...
22:13He's still with us.
22:13He's still with us.
22:14What a way to say it, Dex.
22:15It's not great how I said that.
22:17He is still with the Mets.
22:20He is still with us.
22:22He is still with the New York Mets.
22:25Correct.
22:26So still there.
22:28Who do you think is the next Met that needs to be traded before the deadline?
22:31Because I think we're expecting a lot more moves here, Wardy, on Monday.
22:36How much time you got, Dex?
22:40We have a lot to talk about that.
22:44We'll start in no particular order.
22:47Brooks Raley, who I love.
22:49Luke Weaver, who I love.
22:50Clay Holmes, who I love.
22:52Alaska Brosbane, who I like a lot.
22:54Tyron Taylor doesn't want to be traded, but he's going to get traded.
22:57Mike Talkman, who hasn't played a game with the Mets, but you might as well send him
23:00back to the Bronx because they need an outfielder.
23:01If it ain't going to be Tyron Taylor.
23:03Just a thought.
23:05Beyond that, Kodai Senga, obviously.
23:08Sean Minaya, any takers?
23:10I know that's probably a tough one because of that contract, and that's why it probably
23:13won't happen.
23:14That's something to think about.
23:16And then, you know, just take your pick.
23:19Vientos is standing right in front of you.
23:21Brett Beatty is right behind him.
23:22Roddy Marisu is saying hi, waving right behind him as well.
23:25You know, Jared Young's like Okada.
23:27So, you know, he's in that conversation too.
23:30You got a bunch of guys still that could easily be traded by the New York Mets.
23:33But I like that you had him in these tiers.
23:36That I liked.
23:37Right?
23:37Like, the guys you mentioned, Holmes, Weaver, Rayleigh, Taylor, Brazabon.
23:44I think you said Robert Jr.
23:45I guess you could put him in that tier too.
23:46Oh, I didn't say Robert Jr.
23:47Yeah, throw him in there.
23:48I don't think anyone's going to take him at this rate, but we'll see.
23:51Well, yeah, it'll be interesting.
23:52He's not old.
23:53He's a $2 million buyout option for him.
23:55So, that's why I'm putting him in there.
23:56I think there's a world in which you could move him.
23:58I agree.
24:00I think those guys are – like, any of those guys could be the next Met to be traded.
24:03I will say any of those guys could be.
24:05I think the locks that are gone are Holmes, Rayleigh, Taylor, and Brazabon.
24:11I think those four – I'd be stunned if the four of those are on the team beyond the deadline.
24:18Stunt.
24:18Right.
24:19I know there's still some mixed feelings on Weaver, but I don't – and I know people are going to
24:23look into the fact of Brazabon pitched on Sunday.
24:28And, you know, I don't think any of that matters at the end of the day.
24:32I think that the Mets know those guys have value, especially Weaver and Holmes for me.
24:41And you can tell by the Mets pitching Holmes in a rehab start on Sunday was like, hey, just to
24:47let teams know, if you're worried about him being healthy, it's another shot for you to see this.
24:52I mean, that's the tell right there that he's getting moved.
24:56Now, what will somebody pay for him?
24:58And I also had Luke Weaver there.
25:00That's the big question.
25:01Because those are the two guys I think that can get the Mets back something that will have the fan
25:06base excited.
25:07Like, you got to get more for Klay than what you got for Freddie.
25:10That goes without saying.
25:11You have to.
25:12Oh, absolutely.
25:13Absolutely.
25:13Like, that's where, you know, whoever the Mets trade Klay to, you got to get a top 10 prospect for
25:19him.
25:19Would you say, Wardy, would you say that now that Scooble's gone to the Dodgers, I roll for everybody, would
25:27you say that Holmes isn't the next best starter available on this market right now?
25:33Do you think Dustin Mays is better than Klay Holmes?
25:42I'm considering.
25:43No, I'd say no.
25:45I'm also considering the contract and stuff.
25:47No.
25:47Yeah, no.
25:48I like, you know, just trying to think of who are the other sellers in this year's market.
25:51It's not a lot.
25:52I mean, look at Klay.
25:53He's probably the next man up.
25:55And I just think more than anything, Klay fits this unique role for a lot of teams where if they
26:00need him to be their starter, he'll be their starter.
26:03If they needed him to be thrown in the bullpen as kind of a swing man, if they wanted to
26:07go more that route, it's not like he's unfamiliar.
26:10You know, it might not be his preference, but it's not like he can't handle that per se.
26:13So I think the ability of him being a hybrid to teams, depending on what they would view him as,
26:19is what also makes him enticing.
26:20So, yeah, I mean, again, you have to shoot for the stars of your Stearns here.
26:23I think your returns thus far for Minter and Peralta have been by all things considered good, not great, but
26:30I think you got good things on paper for what the prospect return is.
26:33Now, go ahead and see just how much you can make this better of a deadline by maximizing the value
26:38of Klay Holmes, Luke Weaver, and the select others that we got into.
26:42Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see.
26:44With you on Holmes, talking to Mike Puma the other day, he said most teams are looking to add him
26:50as a starter that are interested in him.
26:51But that flexibility that you just mentioned, that does matter a ton here.
26:56Okay, last thing before we get up out of here.
26:59We are under 24 hours to go to the trade deadline.
27:04A trade deadline that we and others have said extremely important for, I'm not going to put this on Warty.
27:12I'm going to put this to you, Mets fans, your boy, David Stearns, out here, that he needs to get
27:19some things done.
27:19What do you think he's got to accomplish by 6 p.m. on Monday so that between 6 and 7,
27:26we're on the live show, we're looking at each other, and we're like, you know what?
27:30But this was a successful trade deadline.
27:33What does David Stearns have to accomplish by 6 p.m. on Monday, my friend?
27:38Don't sit on your hands, David, okay?
27:40Oh, be proactive.
27:41What are you asking for proactivity?
27:43I know.
27:43Who would have thought, right, Dex?
27:45This is a team that's been completely constructed and built by him more than it ever has been.
27:49It's been a colossal failure.
27:51He understands that he recognizes that.
27:53A guy that he hired, that he cared for dearly, that he was on the brink of crying because he
27:58had a fire this year, was in direct hand because of his shortcomings still as a president.
28:02How do you respond to that?
28:04It's by understanding that you do have some pressure on you.
28:06You have some fire that is on your seat, and you need to recognize that you have a plethora of
28:12talents here that, while they may not all want to go, are not going to be staying here long-term,
28:17whether we like it or not as a fan base or as an actual collective organization.
28:21Because your philosophy is you're not bringing these guys back because of the status of the offseason and what next
28:27year is going to entail, okay?
28:28Understanding that, you just got to maximize these returns.
28:32If the Mets are at 6 or 7 p.m. tomorrow and did not trade half the guys that we
28:38just talked about, I'm going to be furious.
28:40Because unless we find out that there is zero markets for these players, it's not justifiable at all.
28:46It really is not.
28:47There are players here that are just collecting space.
28:49I don't mean that as a slight to them whatsoever, but I mean it as from an organizational standpoint, they're
28:54getting in the way of either giving younger players opportunity to run down the stretch.
28:58And what's now a lost year, that's what you should do.
29:01Or it's because these are guys that are not going to be here as soon as the season's over as
29:06is.
29:06So why in God's name would you not do the right thing?
29:09And that's by parting ways with them, even if you get a sliver in return.
29:14Luke Weaver is the exception because he's under contract next year.
29:17Everyone else, for the most part, is not an exception as to why you would justify them running it back.
29:21So that's where I stand.
29:22You just get rid of more often, more than not, of the players that we've been talking about that you're
29:28likely going to get rid of for the past two months.
29:30Pretty simple as that.
29:32But we know this deck's simple.
29:34That doesn't go together.
29:36No, it doesn't.
29:37I don't know if anybody out there wants to see Wardy furious at the end of the trade deadline show.
29:41I don't because I care about Wardy's happiness.
29:43I would never want to see him.
29:44Sadly, a good contingent of people probably would have loved to see that.
29:47So I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
29:50That's interesting.
29:51They might need to go outside a little bit.
29:55But I guess so I agree with you.
29:57I do think it's a colossal failure, right?
30:01If we just talked about the top four guys that we thought, OK, they're absolutely going to be traded, right?
30:07And I'm glad you pulled Luke Weaver out of there, although I think the Mets should trade Luke Weaver.
30:10I am a person that said that on record.
30:12I think they should because I think the value for him is as high as it will be.
30:17I wonder if Stearns moves these guys and he and it appears that he's proactive, Wardy.
30:24If do you think that'll do you think doing that deadline not being a colossal failure will actually make Mets
30:33fans say, you know what?
30:35Because I'm going to use this word you brought up earlier, trust.
30:38Will they trust him again?
30:40Here's what I'm going to say.
30:41For me personally, no.
30:44I'm going to be like, you still got to show me in the offseason, too.
30:47If there's also going to be a season next year, that's a whole other story for us to talk about.
30:50But you still have to show me.
30:52So I don't think that you can.
30:53I think you can regain some of the trust here at the deadline is what I'll say.
30:58And I do think it's important for David Stearns going into an offseason in this disappointment of a season for
31:05the Mets to try to regain some of that trust.
31:08Now, I understand there's some people out there who it's not going to matter.
31:12My guy, it's not going to matter.
31:14They're so done with Stearns.
31:16It it doesn't matter.
31:17And I saw people commenting on Twitter to me.
31:20And this is all he got back for Peralta.
31:23This is one of the worst trades in Mets this week, which I think is a bit much.
31:28Yeah, we've had much worse trades.
31:30There's worse trades in Mets this week.
31:32I'm sorry.
31:34But Pete Kromstron exists.
31:36Do you want to start there?
31:37Yeah.
31:38Oliver Perez is another trade that exists going back.
31:42There's been worse trades here.
31:45Okay.
31:46There's been worse.
31:46I mean, they traded Nolan Ryan.
31:49We can go on.
31:50Tom Seaver wasn't in New York Met his entire career.
31:53Like, we can go all day on this.
31:55Yes.
31:55We can go all day on this.
31:58I'm not going to go that far.
31:59But my point is, people are going.
32:01People have been angry at David Stearns, rightfully so.
32:04Not sugar coping that.
32:05But all I keep coming back to is, man, the weight of this deadline, because there is a weight to
32:11this deadline.
32:12Right, Wardy?
32:13There is this world in which, if you're sick.
32:15I tell you what.
32:16If we get to 6 o'clock.
32:19If we get to 6 o'clock on the trade deadline show, and you look at Wardy, and Wardy's slumped
32:25in his chair.
32:26Okay?
32:27I'm not going to have anything for you.
32:30I'm just going to look at Wardy and be like, hey, man, I'm going to let you cook.
32:33You got the fire.
32:34Just cook, man.
32:35Just cook.
32:35Look, because if David Stearns doesn't sell the way he's supposed to sell, I agree.
32:41There's colossal failure.
32:42Colossal failure.
32:44And I would say it's almost one where I'm finally saying this, where I'm like, I've been in the boat
32:49of, yeah, you can't fire him.
32:51You got to bring him back.
32:52You got to let him see this through.
32:54It reaches the point, Dex.
32:56Yes.
32:57There's a point for everything, and there's a line for everything.
33:00Right.
33:00If you don't sell the way you're supposed to, and I'm not saying you can get the best returns on
33:05everybody, but you got to get the wins you're supposed to get.
33:08This is like you got to beat the teams on your schedule.
33:10If you can't get the regular season wins you're supposed to get, by God, can you please get these trades
33:14right somewhat at least?
33:16Please.
33:16Like, please?
33:17Like, I'm pretty pleased with a cherry on top, David.
33:20Like, come on.
33:21What do we need to do here?
33:22All right.
33:23This is all we're asking for.
33:25Just make the trades you're supposed to make.
33:26That's all we're saying.
33:27Just make the trades that you're supposed to make.
33:29And have Wardy not be angry at the end of the trade deadline show.
33:33Breaking news.
33:34David Stearns does his job.
33:37We'll just have to wait and see.
33:39We might have to get a lower third for the David Stearns is proactive.
33:43We're going to have to get it.
33:46If it's a big trade deadline, we're going to have a segment for each show for the remainder of the
33:50season.
33:51That will be about being proactive.
33:53David will have on the template, and we'll talk about what were the Mets most proactive on this week.
33:58Lock it down.
33:59I'll be more than happy to talk about that after what we've seen this season.
34:02I'll be more than happy to talk about that.
34:04More than happy.
34:05All right.
34:06That's going to do it for this edition of Straight Outta Fletcher.
34:09Remember, me and my guy, Wardy, we will be coming to you live with our MLB Trade Deadline show with
34:14our guy, Ryan Sampson, of Pinstripe Post.
34:17Three of us will be together in studio breaking it down.
34:19So tap into that.
34:20We have some special guests planned for the people.
34:23It'll be really fun.
34:24We'll be talking baseball.
34:25We'll give you all the breaking news.
34:26Wardy and I will be analyzing, breaking it down.
34:29Hopefully not angry.
34:31We're going to be proactive.
34:32So we're just hoping that David Starnes will be proactive.
34:34That is it.
34:35For the great Tyler Ward, I'm Dexter Henry.
34:38Wardy, I'll see you soon on another edition of Straight Outta Fletcher.
34:42Peace.
34:44Peace.
34:45Peace.
34:46Peace.
34:47Peace.
34:48Peace.
34:49Peace.
34:50Peace.
34:51Peace.
34:51Peace.
