04:24Meanwhile, in Spain, this Tuesday marks the deadline for a vast migrant regularization
04:30launched by the leftist government.
04:31With the final hopefuls scrambling to secure their legal status,
04:35the scheme was predicted to benefit around 500,000 people,
04:39mostly from Latin America, when it began in April.
04:42Around 360,000 applications have been deemed admissible,
04:46out of a total of 900,000,
04:49though not all requests have been processed.

04:58have you seen people queuing to take advantage of this scheme?
05:01And remind us what people needed to be eligible for this.
05:08Throughout this application process,
05:10we have seen queues,
05:12particularly at consulates from different countries.
05:16Because one of the requirements for applying for this one-year renewable residence
05:22is basically to show that you have a clean criminal record in your home country.
05:28And that means that you need to apply for those papers in your home country.
05:32And what we've seen is that many associations,
05:37charities are helping migrants to go through the paperwork of this process,
05:42reaching out to them, telling them that they still have time.
05:45And they have been saying to reporters that it is very difficult for those papers to be obtained
05:54from many countries which have conflicts going on, like Iran and Mali.
06:00One of the other things that migrants must show for this process
06:05is that they've spent five consecutive months on Spanish soil before January 1st.
06:12And that's also not an easy process given that many of these migrants have been working on the black market
06:20and living the best they can and finding accommodation on the black market.
06:26We know that many of them are very desperate to get these papers because they know that for them it
06:31could mean a much better life,
06:34being able to work in better jobs where they have social security and new rights.
06:42And so very anxious times for all those migrants and those charities telling us that they will be filing for
06:49some of those papers,
06:51even if all the papers aren't up to date and because they want to meet this deadline.
06:59Those countries that are allowing this type of stuff will never be the same.
