00:04Practice four in the books.
00:07This is your New York Post Post Practice Report.
00:09I'm Brandon London.
00:11Paul Schwartz is out today.
00:12It's just me flying solo for you guys today.
00:15Here's how I'm going to run this.
00:16I'm going to tell you guys what I saw at practice number four.
00:19Then we're going to throw to some sound from the post-practice media availability
00:24from Kayvon Thibodeau, Darius Slayton, and, of course, Coach John Harbaugh.
00:29And then, you know, the fans were out here today,
00:32so you know that I'm not lying about what I saw or what the kids call capping.
00:37I'm going to talk to them and see what they think about practice number four
00:41and, of course, the season coming up today.
00:44Just off the top of the head, the first thing that stood out,
00:47Jackson Dart and Malachi Fields connect on a deep route,
00:50goal route down the left sideline.
00:52Catches that on Greg Newsome, the second.
00:54And then the defense pretty much took over when it came to the passing game.
00:59And, look, Paulson Adibo had an interception off of a Tremaine Edmonds
01:04tip ball, and then Tremaine Edmonds picks Jackson Dart
01:07and I believe seven on seven.
01:09The length, the length at the inside linebacker position is absolutely,
01:14I would say phenomenal, but it's crazy to have two 6'4", 6'5", interior linebackers like that.
01:22Yesterday, practice three, Arville Reese makes a freakish play across the middle
01:27and tips the ball that could have went to Odell Beckham Jr.
01:29Today, Tremaine Edmonds uses and shows his length,
01:33and he's able to high point a ball across the middle and pick that off.
01:37Now, when it comes to the run game, I do think the Giants run game is going to be,
01:41well, it's going to be the identity and the strength of this team, but they're looking good.
01:46Tyrone Tracy Jr., Cam Scadaboo, even Moto Singletary, Turbo Miller,
01:52all had some pretty solid runs today.
01:54And that's not to say, like, oh, the run defense is going to suffer this year.
01:58DJ Reader caused havoc throughout the course of the day,
02:01but when they're just in jerseys and helmets, it's hard to gauge the run game, guys.
02:07Monday, the pads come on, and that's when things get live.
02:14I did an interview with CeCe Mauanoa on day three for the Giants,
02:18and he was talking about how he can't wait for the pads to come on
02:21because the defense is chirping out there.
02:23Abdul Carter has said he's been chirping out there.
02:26Monday is when things are going to get physical, and the entire week next week,
02:30ladies and gentlemen, lock into our coverage because our post-practice report,
02:34we're going to be talking about how physical they were.
02:37Hopefully, we're talking about how smart they were.
02:39No fights broke out or anything like that,
02:42and how this team is shaping that last week of training camp.
02:47But I guess lastly, just off the top of the head, the offensive line,
02:52let's talk about them, give the hog mollies a little bit love.
02:55You're seeing the continuity there.
02:56You're seeing the communication there.
02:58We're talking about a unit that went from a liability to actually an asset last season,
03:03and you can see them building off of that.
03:06Oh, I know I said that was lastly, but this whole Jackson-Dart-Isaiah-likely combination,
03:11if you've got Isaiah-likely on your fantasy, go draft him on your fantasy
03:16because these two, they've been connecting throughout the course of training camp.
03:20Theo Johnson, another tight end, had himself a really solid day.
03:25And then Tanner Connor, third, fourth string tight end.
03:30He had some really nice catches on the day.
03:32Got to make sure I shot him out.
03:34OBJ, some say he caught a touchdown today in the back of the end zone from Jameis Winston.
03:40Some say that after instant replay, it would have been out,
03:43but no way that referee in front of all the fans was going to blow that incomplete
03:49and say he didn't catch that in the back of the end zone.
03:52OBJ with a heck of a catch.
03:54Don't know if he got two feet in on that one, but at the end of the day,
03:57it's always fun to see him catch passes.
03:59And, of course, the crowd went crazy with it.
04:02So that's what I saw throughout the course of practice number four.
04:08After practice, as you guys know, two players speak to the media and Coach Harbaugh.
04:13It went Kayvon Thibodeau, it went Coach Harbaugh, and then Darius Slayton.
04:18Here's a little best of the sights and sounds from the post-practice media availability from all three guys.
04:29Super excited, you know, just we're trying to keep working, keep getting better, keep gelling together.
04:33I think, you know, we've got a lot of moving parts to the defense,
04:35so just continuing to feed off each other.
04:38What's it been like moving inside sometimes?
04:41It's been good.
04:41I did it last year, and, you know, I'm going to continue to sharpen my tools.
04:46So it's been great so far.
04:47How much, I mean, I know progress.
04:48How much different is that, or what's different on that?
04:50It's just a little fast.
04:51I wouldn't say it's too much different, but, you know, you're closer to the quarterback,
04:53so it is, you know, I would say a little bit more opportunities.
04:56What's the key for you in that spot when you're in the interior to having success?
05:01Play hard, play fast.
05:03You just try to use your speed there?
05:05I mean, you know, I just play hard, to be honest.
05:08Is this the best you've felt physically?
05:10No, usually, you know, camp is day four, so I'm not saying we feel the best, you know.
05:14The best I felt was like four days ago, but no, it feels good. I'm excited.
05:19First and foremost is getting healthy.
05:20You know, I need to be able to run.
05:22I need to be able to move how I'm accustomed to being able to move.
05:24And, honestly, once that's all done, you know, I believe I'll play to a level that I need to play
05:30at.
05:30I was late coming over.
05:31How do you feel after the surgery?
05:34You had surgery, right?
05:35Yeah, yeah, I did.
05:36Yeah, I had, yeah, poor surgery on both legs, but I feel good.
05:39I feel good right now.
05:40How much did that impact last season?
05:43A good bit.
05:44I mean, it's, I'm not a big excuse person.
05:46So, like, at the end of the day, like, I could have played better regardless.
05:50But, you know, obviously, it's different when, you know, maybe you're used to being able to catch a ball a
05:54little easier,
05:55and you're having to strain a little more, and maybe you come up an inch short here or there.
05:59But, you know, at the end of the day, if you're out there, you've got to make it happen.
06:02It was fun out there, the crowd was into it, had a lot of people here, had a spirited practice,
06:08a lot of things to work on,
06:09but a lot of things that were done really well, and we're looking forward to getting in there and getting
06:13to work,
06:13getting some meetings and seeing some tape and continuing the process.
06:16The big picture message is you want to take care of yourself, you want to take care of your team,
06:20do everything you can do to be healthy, be back, be right, be good, you know.
06:23What does that mean?
06:24You know, the next, it's not going to be the same situation the next time for anybody.
06:28You know, it's going to be different, so it's really the principle that you talk about.
06:32A couple of things that stood out to me there, you can hear Kayvon talking about, you know,
06:37what his role is going to be, doesn't mind going with the twos right now,
06:41because Coach Harbaugh says he's got three starters when it comes to that edge rush position.
06:46Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, Kayvon Thibodeau, you can never have enough pass rushers on this team.
06:51Kayvon has looked good, he's picked off a pass, he's got a couple of bat downs or pass breakups
06:57from that outside linebacker or edge rusher position.
07:01Kayvon looks like he's a man on the mission.
07:03I'll then go to Darius Slate, and Darius talking about how he was a little banged up,
07:08where he was having that hernia was bothering him last year.
07:11I like the way that he took accountability and didn't kind of use that as an excuse for some of
07:16the drops
07:17or inconsistencies, but he looks smooth.
07:19He looks like he's getting back to that guy that's had 700-something-plus yards the majority of his career
07:27as a New York Giant.
07:29Can you guys believe that he's the longest-tenured New York Giant now?
07:34But I like what he said about how Malik Nabors, he and Malik Nabors rehabbed together throughout the course of
07:41the spring,
07:41and it doesn't really surprise him that Malik has looked as good as he has since Malik has come out
07:47here
07:47and been able to do individual periods.
07:49Plus, I like how he thinks there's a lot of talent and competition within that wide receiver room.
07:54That could be a room that could be sneaky good and sneak up on teams.
07:58Lastly, Coach Harbaugh, the guy, the structure, I mean, his coaches have been coaching out there,
08:05coaching their asses off out there, and you can see that on some of my social media.
08:09But Coach Harbaugh looks like, and you hear from the players about how he holds players accountable,
08:15how he nips in the bud some of the small stuff that can grow to be bigger things
08:19and hurt you in later weeks within the course of the football season.
08:24So you guys heard all the sound. We did a great job.
08:27Shout out to our producers and our staff for breaking up and cutting that up
08:30so you guys can hear from two of the players and the Kayvon and Darius Slayton and, of course, Coach.
08:36But you've heard from me. You've heard from the players. You've heard from Coach.
08:40The fans were out here today for Back Together weekend or Back Together Day.
08:46I think something around 1,500 to 2,000 fans were out there.
08:50You can tell there's a lot more fans that were here throughout the course of the week.
08:54Obviously, today's a Saturday. But just so you guys know, because some of you guys call me a glazer.
09:00Oh, you do stuff with the Giants. You're always going to talk nice and positive about them
09:04when it comes to the practices and then the players.
09:07Just so you know that I'm not capping on what I saw today, I went and talked to a couple
09:14fans
09:14on what they saw in practice number four.
09:19What did you think of practice today?
09:21Practice was good all around. You know, Giants are making improvements.
09:24I feel like it's going to be a good season and we're ready for it to start.
09:27Dart connected with Malachi Fields on a deep ball down the left sideline.
09:32What do you think that connection could possibly look like this season?
09:35I think it's going to be big. I hope, you know, he's got a good arm with fast body and
09:39big body.
09:39So, that's what we need. So, hopefully, it'll make something happen for us.
09:43What do you think about Scadaboo coming off that injury and going into his second year?
09:49What do you think he's going to bring to this offense?
09:51I'm super excited. I think he has probably one of the best energies on the team.
09:56He took his time. He recovered how he was supposed to.
09:58He promised all of us he was going to be back and ready on day one.
10:01And from what I saw today, he's looking like he's ready to go.
10:04I got to see him right up close. And let me tell you, he killed it.
10:07Defense was able to get two turnovers today, two interceptions.
10:11I mean, what are you expecting from this defense?
10:13You know, you got Abdul Carter coming in year two.
10:15You've got Brian Burns coming off a 16 and a half sack.
10:19You know, Paulson Adebo coming into his second year with the Giants.
10:23Where do you want this Giants defense?
10:26Where do you want them to go and take their game?
10:28I mean, at least top five defense, top five would be great.
10:32I mean, and I mean, minimum way better than last year.
10:35But top five is the expectation with everything, all the moves they've made
10:39with the coaching staff and this new defense that they're bringing in.
10:42Talk to me about what you saw today.
10:44What stood out most to you? Practice number four.
10:47I saw Odell moving good. You know, he's got some knee injuries.
10:51He's coming back good. And I saw neighbors.
10:52He was moving like nothing ever happened.
10:54So I'm good. I'm glad to see that happen.
10:56I think we're going to be a good team next year.
10:59Talk to me about what you saw today.
11:01The offense is really good, but the defense is like up here.
11:05Up here. Okay. Defense.
11:07Hey, I was an offensive guy. Chill out. Chill out. Chill out.
11:10Nah, but what do you like about this defense?
11:12This Denaro Wilson coach defense.
11:14Where do you think this defense can take their game this year?
11:17Super Bowl.
11:19I told you I wasn't capping. It was a good day all around.
11:22It's a balanced day. Iron sharpens iron.
11:24You don't want to see.
11:25And when you're talking about training camp practice, you don't want it to be one sided.
11:29You don't want the offense to just throw and run all over the defense.
11:32And on the flip side of it, you don't want the defense to just be stuffing the offense the entire
11:37time.
11:37This could be a balanced team. This is a team, obviously, that's still got a long ways to go.
11:42You still got a week left of training camp here in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia at the Greenbrier Resort.
11:50You still have a full week of padded practices to get into before you get into your first preseason game.
11:57But the Giants continue to stack days.
11:59That's what we talk about all the time as athletes in training camp.
12:03Stack days. Put days together.
12:05That's what it's all about, right?
12:06Thanks for watchin' today's training camp practice number four post-practice report for the New York Post Sports.
