00:00How do you react, playing instinctively?
00:03Yeah, for sure.
00:04And, you know, this game is going to be a lot of eye candy,
00:08a lot of misdirection and, you know, things to mess with your eyes
00:11and try to get you to go other places.
00:13But, you know, I saw something, so I just trusted my instincts
00:17and trusted my eyes and just went to go make the play.
00:21So then after, you just got to celebrate.
00:23Like I said, it's a child's game.
00:24Like I'm living out my dream.
00:25So I was too timid last year.
00:29Like if a play was made, I need to be up and screaming
00:32and pushing and head-butting.
00:34Like that's the Barrett that has grown up and, you know,
00:37been playing football his whole life.
00:38And I need to get back to that Barrett.
00:39So it's the same me, but I need to get back to just that passion,
00:43that energy that I've always had my whole life.
00:44So it was a good play nonetheless, but, you know,
00:47we just got to keep making those plays throughout the whole camp
00:49and, you know, throughout the whole season.
00:51You talked about playing with that, playing with that kind of edge.
00:54Is that something that, like, I mean, obviously you practice plays,
00:59formations, things like that.
01:00Is that something that you practice to an extent?
01:03What?
01:03Like that edge.
01:05Is that something that helps to practice with?
01:08Oh, yeah, for sure.
01:09Like every day should be treated as game day.
01:11Like every day should be treated as a Super Bowl, actually.
01:13So when we get to the Super Bowl, it's not going to be this drastic change
01:16of, oh, we're here.
01:17We need to change up what we do.
01:18Like, no, every day is a Super Bowl.
01:20That's how our mindset is.
01:22Like we're going to show up and we're going to have fun every single day.
01:25We're going to make plays every day.
01:26We're going to celebrate those plays every single day.
01:28So that's the mindset throughout the whole defense.
01:31That's my mindset.
01:32That's our linebacker's mindset.
01:33How are we going to outwork the other 31 teams?
01:35So we've got to bring that edge every single day.
01:37Like a fight broke out the first day.
01:40Like I love that.
01:41That's good.
01:42We need to have that more often.
01:43Obviously you can't disrupt practice,
01:45but that edge, you have to have that during every single practice.
01:48You all had a couple days of start camp that were competitive and edgy.
01:52What was it like taking a little step back today
01:55and doing more of a walk-through title?
01:56Yeah, I think it's great that Zach obviously trusts us enough to do that
02:00because if he didn't trust us, he wouldn't do that.
02:02But it's important.
02:04It's going to be a long season for us.
02:05We're planning to play until mid-February, end of February,
02:08whenever the Super Bowl is.
02:10So he's trying to keep us healthy.
02:11But that definitely breeds the trust that he has in us.
02:14So we just have to keep honoring that with how we play
02:18and how we show up every single day.
02:19So when you have a coach that wants to take care of you
02:21and keep your body healthy, that's important for us.
02:23So we have to repay him by how we practice,
02:25how we communicate, and how we play.
02:27You think that's for the only guys that have to wear helmets?
02:30Yeah, good.
02:31You're okay with that?
02:32I love it.
02:32I love it.
02:33I wear a helmet in game.
02:34I wear a helmet every single day in practice.
02:36So I bring my helmet to walk through, so I'm used to it.
02:40That helmet stays with me everywhere I go.
02:42So that's my best friend.
02:44Everywhere you go?
02:45Everywhere I go.
02:46Off season, to sleep at night, on the toilet, everything.
02:51Yeah, it's right there.
02:52Sleeping in the helmet.
02:53No, not in the helmet.
02:54I wear eye masks.
02:55I wear mouth tapes.
02:56I can't sleep in the helmet.
02:57But it's with me everywhere I go, for sure.
03:00Three days of Super Bowl, is that something you came up with?
03:03Or is that something that they've been saying around the facility?
03:05I think that's just throughout the whole team.
03:07You know, we don't want to, like I said, it can't be a drastic thing whenever we do get
03:12there.
03:12So we have to treat every day like such.
03:14You know, we have to treat every day and give this game the honor and the respect that
03:17it deserves.
03:18If you don't, you will get exposed.
03:19So like I said, we have to fly around and make plays every day and bring energy every
03:23day, bring an edge every day.
03:24And, you know, show up with that Super Bowl mindset every single day.
03:28So by the time we get there, it won't be anything new for us.
03:30Al Golden said the other day, every defensive coordinator in the NFL would like to have two
03:35young linebackers like you and Demetrius.
03:37Can you describe your relationship with him?
03:40That's my brother for life.
03:42I've said this so many times.
03:43Like, he came from South Carolina.
03:44I went to Clemson.
03:46One of the biggest rivalries in college football.
03:48I was skeptical when, you know, when I found out I was coming here.
03:51But, you know, quickly, he became my brother.
03:53Like, truly.
03:54And we just, we clicked instantly.
03:56Like, on the field, off the field.
03:58Like, he's just, he gets me.
04:00Like, I don't even have to say something.
04:01He already knows what I'm thinking and vice versa, me with him.
04:04But having that, you know, that chemistry with him on the field, I just look at him
04:08and we're just like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:09No, no, no.
04:10Like, it's just something like that.
04:11I know that I didn't really say much right there.
04:12But we just have that type of, that type of chemistry where not much has to be said
04:16or a lot has to be said.
04:18But we already know what we're already thinking in that moment.
04:20So that's my brother for life.
04:21And I'm so blessed and thankful that I get to take the field with him every single day.
04:25And there's going to be a lot of plays between us this year for sure and years to come.
04:29How about the connection that you two guys have with Al Golden?
04:32Yeah, we wouldn't want to play for any other D.C.
04:35The way that he instills belief in us and, you know, how he talks to us.
04:40And, like I said, the belief is really the main thing.
04:43Like, he talks to us like we're his own sons.
04:45And he truly believes in us.
04:47And that's everything you can want out of a D.C.
04:48So he always makes jokes with us and tries to troll us a little bit.
04:53But, you know, he's the best D.C.
04:55And I wouldn't want to play for any other coach for sure.
04:58I'm only following up on this to clarify.
04:59Do you really take your helmet with you literally everywhere you go?
05:05See, offseason, yes.
05:07Not in the toilet.
05:08That was a lie.
05:10Not in bed with me.
05:11That was a lie as well.
05:12But, you know, I work out with my helmet.
05:16I'll just put it on random points of the day and make sure it still fits right.
05:19And, you know, make sure I can still, you know, run into things the right way.
05:23But, no, I was trolling a little bit.
05:25Do you lift in it, though?
05:26No.
05:27Oh, okay.
05:27You said you work out.
05:28I got you.
05:29I got you.
05:29I mean, like, running around and doing drills and stuff like that.
05:31I got you.
05:31Okay.
05:31I was just making sure that was.
05:32I was just seeing if that was, like, actually a thing for you.
05:34I'm not that weird.
05:35No.
05:36No, sir.
05:37No, sir.
05:37I had to double check and make sure, you know, it confirms.
05:40Oh, yeah.
05:41I'm not that weird.
05:42Do you have pictures on your lockers behind you?
05:47Someone in the training room put that there.
05:49I really don't know why.
05:50Is that you?
05:51That is me.
05:52That was senior year of high school.
05:54That was, like, some, like, top players in Georgia had, like, a photo shoot.
05:57I don't know.
05:57But, like, I don't know why they did that.
05:59I mean, I have some of my loved ones who passed away on my locker.
06:03Just give me some, like, extra motivation every single day.
06:05You know, show up in the building.
06:06And I got to realize, like, this game is deeper than me.
06:09Like, and that's, like, the perspective.
06:12I always try to have is always deeper than me.
06:13So, it's just a little extra motivation.
06:15It's got to be kind of cool to see yourself then.
06:17And if you can tell yourself that and where you'd be now kind of thing.
06:20Yeah, I mean, I think I was, like, 16 or 17 at that age.
06:24So, that Barrett would be so proud of the Barrett that stands here today.
06:28But the outfit there is a little questionable.
06:30So, we're not going to talk about that.
06:31But it's definitely cool to, like, look back at those pictures and see, like, how far I've came, like, physically.
06:37And just, you know, what outfits I can wear really now.
06:40That's terrible.
06:41But, no, it's really cool to see.
