00:03Why did he have such a good year last year?
00:05What do you expect out of him and Dax really this year?
00:08Yeah, number one, I think Chuck does a great job with those guys.
00:11And Chuck's very consistent in his approach and the techniques that he's teaching.
00:17I think DJ made incredible strides in terms of just adhering to a process
00:24and keeping it really small.
00:25I know I said that to you guys a bunch during the year,
00:28but it's not just cliche.
00:29He did it.
00:31It's really hard to do, especially at this level.
00:35And he made it really small, made consistent gains over time.
00:42You know, he went from, you know, where he was week one, week two,
00:46to being the guy who was matching, you know, the best player on the other team.
00:51And he earned every bit of it.
00:53So he did a tremendous job, made growth every day.
00:58Studied hard, took care of himself off the field, physically, mentally,
01:02and just really excited for him.
01:05What will Landon Robinson need to show you to make this roster?
01:13Just keep doing what he's doing.
01:16You know, we haven't talked about the last 48 hours with Landon,
01:19but he picked up right where he left off in the spring.
01:22You know, so it wasn't like, you know, we take a five, six-week break
01:26and he comes back and doesn't know all the basics.
01:30He continued to learn.
01:31He worked his tail off in the offseason.
01:35He did a great job there.
01:38And, you know, all of that just sets the table now.
01:41The opportunities are going to come.
01:43You know, we're going to manage the load of some of the guys at his position
01:47that are significantly older than he is.
01:50So he's going to be thrust into those opportunities on any given day during training camp.
01:56And so just stay the course.

02:00Obviously, with the Navy background, have you ever coached someone as disciplined
02:04or kind of with that type of mentality?
02:08Yeah, I don't know.
02:08I mean, I think that can come in, you know, a number of forms.
02:12It's easy to say that because, you know, he went to Navy.
02:16But there's a lot of guys on our defense that I would say are just as disciplined
02:21in terms of their approach to the game, their love of the game.
02:25The details, the questions they ask, how prepared they are every day.
02:29I think in Landon's, you know, in his background, certainly Navy, you know,
02:37contributed to that.
02:39But I don't want to sell the young man short in terms of whatever school he went to.
02:45I'm sure this is his makeup and his character and who he is as a young man.
02:49So I'm really excited about that for him.
02:52You've seen Dexter without the pads on, obviously,
02:55and you've gotten to know him on and off the field.
02:58Once the pads go on, I'm curious, what are you looking forward to seeing the most
03:03from Dexter and how he impacts the defensive line?
03:06Yeah, I think the biggest thing is there's a lot of single blocks that, you know,
03:10look good on paper and walkthroughs.
03:13And those are the ones he's got to win for us when the pads go on or when we're playing
03:17a preseason game or scrimmage in Chicago, whatever the case may be.
03:21So I've watched, you know, his lineage and his history.
03:25He's done that, you know, consistently over time.
03:30He's demonstrated that at a high level.
03:31He can beat one-on-one blocks.
03:33He can play gap and a half.
03:34He's got great range, you know, to the sea gap, which a lot of guys his size don't have.
03:40And since the day he signed, he's worked his tail off.
03:43So a great human being, great mentor, great leader, awesome person to have in the building.
03:50And I can't wait to watch him play.

03:58Very talented young man, explosive, strong, has the length, can collapse the pocket, has
04:07the versatility to rush inside and get a one-on-one against the guard where he should be athletically
04:12better.
04:13Unknown passing downs, third down package, that type of thing.
04:16So he gives us great versatility and we should see a huge jump with him.
04:21Ben, to be honest with you, you know, he missed the offseason last year.
04:25There was a lot of drama.
04:26That weighs heavily on everybody, everybody in the organization.
04:31He missed the majority of training camp.
04:34We threw him out there game one.
04:37He played pretty good.
04:38When you watch the film game one, played pretty good.
04:40Game two, he gets injured.
04:42And now he's back, you know, back, you know, off the field and losing ground.
04:49So just do all the little things that Jerry's teaching him.
04:53Be technically sound and then let God's gift, you know, gifts come out.
04:58You know, let your talent and your ability to come out within the realm of the defense.
05:02This defense obviously took a lot of criticism last year.
05:05Do you expect to see kind of a chip or an edge in camp this year?
05:09I hope they do.

05:11You know, I certainly do.
05:13I think the coaches do.
05:14I think the guys that were here do.
05:17But I also know that the guys that were here were the same guys that fought through it.
05:23You know, fought through it and got better for it.
05:26You know, for example, the linebackers, a lot of criticism.
05:30But, you know, the experience that they went through, the trials, the tribulations, the learning on the job against, you
05:37know, good competition.
05:39That all should compound for us now.
05:41And I think there's a lot of coordinators around the league that would love to have 200 tackle guys coming
05:45back.
05:46That's what we have.
05:47And they're young and they're hungry.
05:49And I think they do have an edge about them.
05:52And I would also, you know, you can juxtapose that with, you know, we brought in eight guys between free
05:59agency and the draft.
06:01And that's a significant, like, that's a significant number in the NFL to bring in one offseason.
06:08And those guys are bringing a different sense of urgency and approach and, you know, vantage point.
06:16So I think that's what needs to come together here in the next six weeks.
06:20How much have you been scheming, coming up with different possibilities for different formations, different whatever that you're going to
06:28throw out there?
06:29Did that continue even in the last couple of weeks?
06:32Certainly.
06:32And, again, you can't put it all in in the spring because you don't have that kind of that time.
06:38But then you have to say, okay, we didn't put this in.
06:41Can we add this?
06:43Can we add A, B, and C?
06:45All right, is D too much?
06:46All right, let's hold that for a game plan.
06:49So we're still in the process of doing that.
06:51And I think that's what these six weeks are about, right?
06:54This training camp, that's what it's about.
06:55It's about how do we come together as a collective, who emerge as leaders, you know, where are the position
07:05battles and how do they play out?
07:07But also, and again, Zach challenged us with this the other day, just take a deep breath and say, okay,
07:14are we, you know, are the guys that are the most talented, are we using them accordingly?
07:19You know, are we getting the most out of, you know, what they do best?
07:25And I think that's what we're, you know, what we have to get done here in the next six weeks.
