Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday escalated his attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging at a press conference in New Delhi that he saw and heard Shah ordering the police to open fire on student protesters during the recent anti-NEET paper leak agitation in Delhi.

02:54The biggest headline is of course that the anti-Paper League bill was passed earlier today via voice vote.
03:00Through chaos, through ruckus, that even saw repeated disruptions over leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi's allegation
03:07that Home Minister Amit Shah had authorized the use of force against students during the CJP's protest at Delhi's Jantar
03:13Mantar.
03:14Here's what Rahul Gandhi alleged.
03:15He's alleged that pellets were fired at the protesting students and it was done at the behest of Home Minister
03:21Amit Shah
03:22that the order came in from either the Home Minister or the Prime Minister
03:26because only they could give cops the permission to use force against protesters.
03:31That comment in Parliament was expunged but Rahul Gandhi went ahead and repeated it once again outside Parliament.
03:37The leader of opposition also claimed that Amit Shah was absent from Parliament because he was scared.
03:43Rahul Gandhi essentially said, I saw Home Minister Amit Shah sitting in his 30-car convoy and his hands were
03:49shaking.
03:50That's what Rahul said.
03:52Now the BJP strongly rebutted the leader of opposition's allegation saying first,
03:56no shots were fired during the incident and that only tear gas was used.
04:00Union Minister Jitendra Singh also asserted that the claim of 152 paper leaks were false.
04:05He said that Rahul Gandhi is saying that Home Minister Amit Shah travelling in a 30-car convoy is false
04:10and he says all of these allegations are mischievous and imaginary.
04:14Ultimately, the BJP is saying that if Rahul Gandhi is claiming the order came from Home Minister Amit Shah,
04:20show us a copy of that order.
04:21Give us proof.
04:22That is what played out in Parliament.
04:26Let's play out for you all of those reactions that came in.

08:43So, expecting him to essentially repeat those charges once again,
08:46because he alleges that he wasn't given a chance to even speak in Parliament.
08:55That's right, Akshita.
08:56And I do believe that Rahul Gandhi could, in fact, intensify those charges,
09:00because he said he could only speak before he could actually elaborate
09:05on why he was saying that he was stopped by the Treasury benches.
09:10So, clearly, the kind of counterattack we've seen from the government,
09:16Kiran Rajiju going to the extent of saying that this is a breach of his position
09:20as the leader of opposition,
09:23then asking for an apology on that matter,
09:26and after Rahul Gandhi's speech was cut short,
09:29straight away, when 3 p.m. the House convened,
09:32the minister gave a reply and the bill was passed by a voice vote.
09:37So, this is a very, very politically tense situation, I can tell you.
09:42And Rahul Gandhi, in fact, had put out a post saying that
09:46what I wasn't able to speak on the floor of the House,
09:49I will speak here in the press conference.
09:53So, clearly, you know, all battle lines are drawn,
09:55and perhaps Rahul Gandhi would focus his attack on the responsibility,
10:01accountability of the Home Minister.
10:04We're going to track what Moshmi gets us very, very closely.

10:16because Home Minister Amitra have also reacted
10:18to the passage of the anti-paper league bill.
10:21He said, in a quote,
10:23Congratulations to every student in India,
10:25the bill shields, the dreams and aspirations of our youth
10:28by laying down ironclad provisions,
10:31imposing the harshest punishment on those who dare to breach
10:34the sanctity of public examinations.
10:36Home Minister Amitra has also gone on to say
10:38that the Modi government will spare no one
10:40who attempts to imperil the future of our students
10:42and will leave no stone unturned to ensure they face
10:45the full wrath of the law.
10:47Remember that there's been a huge controversy
10:50over Amitra as well.
10:52And the reason for that is Rahul Gandhi
10:54dragged in his name in parliament.
10:57Referring to Home Minister Amitra,
10:59he said that he's scared to face me.
11:01He claims he saw him outside the parliament
11:04and that the Home Minister's hands were shaking.
11:06This is what Rahul Gandhi said.
11:07He did stop there.
11:08He went on to allege that it was Home Minister Amitra
11:10who gave the order to fire those pellet guns
11:12during the July 20th protest.
11:14And that's what's led to a big showdown.
11:16That comment has been expunged.
11:17Rahul Gandhi repeated it once again.
11:19So expect that in the press conference
11:21that starts in just a short while from now,
11:24you will once again see the leader of opposition
11:26train guns at Home Minister Amitra
11:29over what happened on July 20th
11:32and essentially seek accountability from him.

14:47in the face of Rahul Gandhi, now clearly going all guns blazing against Home Minister Amit Shah.
14:52Aishwarya, good evening. Are we expecting now in light of all of these allegations coming to the fore
14:58of a statement from the Home Minister on exactly what happened on July 20th?
15:03Because the Congress seems to be suggesting that it was he who ordered the shooting.
15:10Well, you know, Akshita, let me tell you, the rules are very, very clear.
15:13It is not even the DM, it is the STM. He's the one who looks at the law and order.
15:18So one thing that the government has been speaking about is the fact that you need to get the rules
15:22right.
15:22And how can you be asking these kind of questions?
15:25If you really think that this is something that has happened, then you really need to ask the STM
15:29and not the Home Minister, that is Amit Shah.
15:31The government also believes that this is not the platform to be asking these questions.
15:36See, these questions are being raised by the opposition party.
15:39And we will hear Rahul Gandhi, Akshita, from what I understand, in this press conference also.
15:43He will be speaking about those things.
15:45But the government believes that this is done and dusted.
15:48They now need to move forward.
15:50And that's the reason why you saw the bill amid all the hangama that was happening in Lok Sabha being
15:55passed.
15:55The government believes that they have already given the clarification that they wanted to do.
15:59All the questions have already been answered.
16:01And this one particular demand of the opposition that it should be Home Minister who should come and speak
16:06is something that I do not see happening.
16:08The government also believes that that is not necessary.
16:11All the questions so far have been answered.
16:13But yes, this dust is the starting point.
16:15We believe that, you know, we will see the opposition and the government in days to come be at a
16:21loggerhead
16:21because the opposition believes there are certain questions that still need to be answered.
16:25All right, Aishwarya, putting forth really what the government's version is, as she pointed out,
16:30they maintain that there's no way the Home Minister can issue an order for the use of pellet guns.
16:35That's not something that falls in really what the Home Minister does.
16:39And so they're demanding proof of the order copy that Rahul Gandhi's referred to
16:43when going ahead of pointy fingers at Home Minister Amitra.
16:46And we've seen several reactions that have come in from the BJP as well.

16:58Rahul Gandhi has maintained that what he couldn't say in Parliament,
17:02because he says his speech was disrupted, he wasn't allowed to speak,
17:05he will mention in this press conference.
17:08Rahul Gandhi has also taken to social media to once again take on Home Minister Amit Shah,
17:14saying that the Home Minister is responsible for what happened on July 20th,
17:18for what he calls brutality on students.
17:21So the Congress constantly going back to the use of pellet guns and so questioning the Home Minister over that.
17:28From what our sources in the BJP say, from what Aishwarya Paliwal has just told us,
17:33unlikely that Home Minister Amit Shah is going to issue any kind of statement.
17:37But the opposition is trying here to ramp up the pressure as well on the BJP,
17:43on the government to give some sort of details in Parliament.
17:46Because remember that this bill, the anti-Paper League bill, has been passed in Lok Sabha.
17:50It comes up tomorrow in Rajya Sabha.
17:52And of course, while there too it's expected to be fairly clear as to exactly which way that bell will
17:59go in voting,
18:00it is still going to be a big talking point of the debate.
