00:14I mean, Deshaun Watson and Shador Sanders are going to get their pop
00:18at winning that job, but really it's just been a big issue there.
00:22Why has it been such an issue there at finding that quarterback?
00:26Well, obviously, when you have so many head coaches
00:30along with what you just mentioned,
00:32you can never establish an identity of what type of football team
00:35you want to be, and it's really a shame when you mention
00:39the Cleveland Browns because, in my humble opinion,
00:42I didn't play against him, but I met the man.
00:46Maybe the greatest football player I ever played
00:48played for the Cleveland Browns.
00:49That was Jim Brown, right?
00:51I mean, at the end of the day.
00:53I mean, when you say Cleveland Browns, you say Jim Brown,
00:56you go, whoa, okay, I get it, right?
00:59And, you know, I can remember the era when Marty was back there
01:05and, you know, they were a pretty competitive football team.
01:09They really were.
01:10They had an identity.
01:11They were physical.
01:12They were going to run the football.
01:13I mean, this is who they were going to be.
01:15When you look at them last year, if they could have got any,
01:18just any kind of play from the quarterback,
01:23you know, they would have been competitive.
01:24This was the fourth-ranked defense.
01:26People lose sight of that.
01:28They were fourth in the league in defense.
01:30But they got to get the quarterback thing squared away.
01:33Deshaun, obviously, I mean, he's going to compete with Deion Sun,
01:39Shador, but they got to get that quarterback thing figured out.
01:43How much do you blame ownership when it comes to situations like this?
01:47I mean, you know, Herm, I think one of the things that people don't realize
01:52that so many people get in your guys' way, I mean,
01:55especially when you've got a lot of chefs in the kitchen
01:58and you're trying to make football decisions, how tough is that?
02:02And I just don't want to throw this at Jimmy Haslam.
02:04I'm talking about ownership that gets involved in football decisions.
02:08How much does that play when it comes to distracting or disrailing,
02:11something that you're trying to implement when it comes to a game plan?
02:15Well, if you have an organization that obviously has gone through a lot of GMs
02:21and a lot of head coaches, you find and you look at those organizations
02:25and you ask yourself, okay, well, what's the constant?
02:29It's ownership.
02:31And there's always changes because they can never find the right fit.
02:34So all of a sudden, they feel like they got to be more involved in it.
02:37One of the classic organizations, when you think about it,
02:41for the history of football, had been at Pittsburgh Steelers.
02:48They had three head coaches.
02:51Come on.
02:52Until Mike left and now Mike McCartney's in there.
02:56But when you think about the Pittsburgh Steelers
02:59and you think about the history and all those trophies they had,
03:03you go, hmm, interesting, right?
03:07One head coach, two head coach, three head coaches, that's all.
03:12And they just, they built their organization.
03:15They knew their identity.
03:16They said, this is what we do.
03:18Let's help the coach.
03:19We're going to stay out of the way.
03:21Let the coach coach games and we'll be fine.
