00:07The remake for The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time has garnered a lot of buzz since it was
00:12officially announced. And while there are many of us excited to get our hands on it,
00:16remaking one of the greatest games of all time naturally comes with a lot of worries from its
00:21many, many fans. Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking at our three biggest concerns for
00:27the Ocarina of Time remake. However, there was one particular boy who did not have a fairy.
00:37But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the
00:42bell to get notified about our latest videos. The voice acting.
01:01The fandom seemed to be nervous about the prospect of voice acting ever coming to the
01:06series, but as games grew bigger, it was only a matter of time. For such a dialogue-heavy,
01:11kingdom-spanning adventure series, and one of the most respected of Nintendo's IPs,
01:16Zelda eventually made the jump, at least to fully voiced cutscenes, with Breath of the Wild,
01:21followed by Tears of the Kingdom. The exception was Link, who still didn't get to speak. Reception
01:33to the voice acting has overall been mixed, varying between different characters. It's
01:38no secret that Nintendo hasn't tried to chase the big, dramatic, cinematic storytelling that
01:43other publishers value, and so not many characters, or even their performers, get much of a chance
01:49to shine. And that's partially why voice acting in the Ocarina of Time remake is a valid concern.
01:57The announcement teaser was voiced, which makes us think, at the very least, important cutscenes
02:02will be as well. Being a much smaller, mostly linear game, voiced cutscenes will likely appear
02:08more frequently. Since many of these characters, big and small, are important to fans, it's only
02:16natural to worry about what they'll sound like, given the aforementioned mixed reception to the
02:20voice acting in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. But it isn't just a matter of quality,
02:26it's a matter of tone.
02:27I'd be doing the same thing.
02:29Voice acting can be vital in setting a game's tone, and the tone of Ocarina of Time is already
02:35ingrained in a lot of gamers' memories over multiple replays. More importantly, because of its place in
02:41pop culture, there are likely legions of players who have specific voices they hear behind each character.
02:52If a performance is off, it can undermine one of the game's subtle, yet emotional moments.
02:58Worse, it can stick out like a sore thumb and take you out of the experience.
03:12The price.
03:13The price of video games has been one of the hottest button issues over the last few years,
03:18perpetuated by Nintendo and Rockstar going to $80 for Mario Kart World and Grand Theft Auto 6, respectively.
03:25Bad luck, I guess.
03:26While Nintendo in particular has been criticized for years over the price points of its games,
03:30specifically that they never go on sale, those on the Switch 2 are at an all-time high
03:35level of player scrutiny. Naturally, that includes the Ocarina of Time remake,
03:40even though there is no definitive price at the time of writing.
03:46In July, the price of the physical game was listed by retailer PlayAsia as $60 US dollars.
03:52Although Nintendo didn't comment, this was likely not a case of the price leaking,
03:57but just of a store putting up a placeholder, which is a common occurrence.
04:01Nevertheless, it got the fans talking about what that price would mean, and how probable it still is.
04:07It wouldn't be too surprising if the price turned out to be true, considering the recent Star Fox remake,
04:12which launched at $60 physically and $50 digitally.
04:16Here, I thought I'd seen everything.
04:17This is where most of the concerns have come from.
04:21Many feel $60 means it will mostly be a one-to-one remake with voice acting,
04:26updated visuals, controls, and other quality-of-life improvements.
04:29But nothing new when it comes to story, dungeons, or side content.
04:33And some players fear that for the simple fact of wanting more.
04:37Which, as a long-time fan, I can relate.
04:45Yet, since the price hasn't been confirmed, there are also players voicing concerns about
04:50the possibility of it being more expensive.
04:52Star Fox isn't close to Zelda in terms of popularity,
04:56so maybe Nintendo would be comfortable charging more.
04:58Some of us better than others.
05:01$70 to $80, a price range becoming more and more common,
05:04would arguably be too much to charge for a remake,
05:07even if it is from the ground up.
05:09But if that were the case, it might be evident that Nintendo was going to include more new content,
05:14as they would be more likely to do for Zelda than Star Fox anyway.
05:18Regardless, what price is reasonable will ultimately be down to the player.

05:56The atmosphere.
05:57The mood and atmosphere of Ocarina of Time, like any game,
06:01is essential to its personality.
06:13That sense of newfound adventure of young Link,
06:16and that loss of innocence as he's transported to adulthood in an instant
06:19to take on a world far darker than the one he left.
06:22A concern over remakes in general is that they will fail to capture the magic,
06:26or even tarnish the experience of the original.
06:29When it comes to this one, there are two concerns over its ability to live up to the
06:33distinct atmosphere that left such a mark on so many players.
06:37One is through its visuals.
06:49Although we only got a brief glimpse of him,
06:51one of the most talked about aspects following the remake's announcement was how Link looked.
06:55It stirred up a lot of debate.
06:57Some people loved it, seeing it as an evolution from the N64 design,
07:01and others hated it, thinking it looked far too realistic.
07:05Then there were the impartial among us,
07:07who would prefer to wait and see what the game looks like beyond one shot.
07:10But still, the remake's visuals will undoubtedly be one of the bigger talking points again once that happens.
07:16And between character redesigns to the environmental details,
07:20it is important to get right.
07:33The second way we hope the atmosphere won't be altered is in the heavier subject matter.
07:38Despite mostly being kid-friendly, there are several key points that play into Link's loss of innocence,
07:43namely the bottom of the well and Shadow Temple.
07:46Not only are there blood-stained rooms and torture chambers,
07:49but they hint towards the not-so-heroic actions of Hyrule,
07:52the kingdom you've been fighting to defend during a civil war.
08:03Although there have been some dark elements in recent games,
08:06Nintendo has stayed away from this more visceral, unsettling storytelling and level design for a while now.
08:12So we hope that these places, and some of the other darker moments,
08:15aren't watered down in the remake.
