00:00Long ago, there was a land called Hyrule, created by beings of supreme divinity.
00:07Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're looking at the updates and additions we'd love to
00:11see included in the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake.
00:23But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and
00:27ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:32Quest Tracker
00:41Several games post-Ocarina have included ways for Link to track his various quests, be they
00:47main or optional.
00:48This one is a small ask, admittedly, but it would make keeping track of things in the
00:52remake easier.
00:53The original did have hints towards your progression in certain areas, like a gold
00:58Sculptula icon over a temple on the map, if you had found all of them there.
01:02And while the 3DS version was a little better in this regard, it still wasn't exactly perfect.
01:07It would be helpful, especially for newer players, if your gold Sculptula count was kept in the
01:13menu, or which step of the big Goron sword quest you were on, or clues about young Link's
01:18mask-trading quest.
01:19And, this feels like the perfect time to say, we also hope to see more side quests in general,
01:24to both flesh out the world and give older players some new tasks to accomplish.
01:35A busy Hyrule.
01:44With a from-the-ground-up remake, it's safe to expect some expanded areas, bigger and packed
01:50with more detail.
01:51We're excited to see just how Nintendo has refreshed some of the game's iconic locales.
01:55But, more importantly, we're eager for some of these smaller NPCs to get an overhaul.
02:01New character models for the Zoras and Gorons, considering most look identical, more dynamic
02:06animations and movements making them feel more alive.
02:09For Hyrule's market in particular, we'd love to interact with the many NPCs who just
02:14fill up space, or only have a couple of lines.
02:16Many of them are stiff, and only remain in one spot.
02:20Considering we haven't gotten a thriving Hyrule in 3D since Twilight Princess, we hope to
02:25see the kingdom at a new height.
02:30keep the darkness.
02:42One concern we've seen from some fans concerning the remake is how Nintendo will handle the more
02:48disturbing aspects from Ocarina of Time.
02:50Particularly, the blood-stained torture chambers found in the bottom of the well and Shadow
02:55Temple, as well as the creepy enemies that can be found there, like the Dead Hands.
02:59While there has been some darker imagery or enemies in more recent games, like the gloom
03:03spawn from Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo has mostly stayed away from these types of things
03:07for a while now.
03:18The concern is valid that Nintendo may reduce how unsettling these places are in order to
03:24make it more light-hearted or keep an E for everyone raiding.
03:27But we'd argue that these elements are vital to the story.
03:31A key theme is the loss of innocence, and nothing sums that up quite like the back-to-back horror
03:36shows in Kakariko Village.
03:38It also helped them stand out visually and thematically, so, if anything, we want Nintendo
03:43to go even further.
03:50An expanded soundtrack.
03:52This one is almost guaranteed to happen, but it has us itching with excitement nonetheless.
03:58Koji Kondo's original score, while incredible, was composed in the late 90s for a console
04:03with limited sound design by today's standards, and naturally could only simulate sounds
04:08of real instruments.
04:09The 3DS version received no updates when it came to its soundtrack, which is understandable,
04:14but the series has long since moved to using a live orchestra.
04:18Imagine the Gerudo Valley theme with real Spanish flamenco guitars.
04:30Or the spirit temple theme with an actual Armenian daduk.
04:43Or making it to the top of Ganon's tower and hearing that spine-tingling organ blaring around
04:49you.
04:57The title screen already makes everyone of us emotional.
05:01If I boot up this game and hear real piano and ocarina, I'll probably cry immediately.
05:13A combat dungeon.
05:24Since it's a full remake, some quality of life improvements are bound to be added, including
05:29to the game's combat.
05:31Therefore, we welcome a way to fully master it against loads of enemies in the form of
05:36a combat dungeon.
05:37We've seen them in many games since Ocarina, from Wind Waker to Twilight Princess to Breath
05:42of the Wild's Master Sword Trials.
05:44They always serve as a fun, optional challenge with some tantalizing rewards to boot.
05:49Despite being an older game, there are still plenty of enemy types and traps Nintendo could
05:54include, and in many different combinations to keep things fresh.
05:57Additionally, the 3DS version included a boss rush, and we'd welcome the return of that
06:02as well.
06:13OURA ZELDA
06:24It's well documented now that Nintendo had to cut several features from Ocarina of Time.
06:29The original plan was to release an expanded version called URA ZELDA on the 64DD, but
06:35when the disc-based add-on failed spectacularly in Japan, those plans were scrapped.
06:40It would be really cool to experience what Nintendo had in mind, as well as see those ideas
06:45expanded on.
06:46Things like new items, new dungeons, new spells, even new ways to interact with and affect the
06:52game's world.
06:53One idea did make it out alive.
06:55A second, harder quest with reworked dungeons, Master Quest, which was included with a port
07:00for the GameCube and the 3DS version.
07:02We'd obviously love to see that return in the remake as well, but to see what Nintendo originally
07:07envisioned for the project would be really special.
07:19More in Hyrule Field
07:28Leaving Kokiri Forest and stepping into Hyrule Field for the first time is a wonderful moment
07:33during the game's early hours.
07:34As the first 3D Zelda, this vast overworld blew everyone's minds.
07:39But if Nintendo were to just rebuild it without changing its contents, that would be pretty
07:44disappointing.
07:44Sure, there are some enemies and a few holes with some minor treasures, but for the most
07:49part, it's one big, wide, empty plain that mostly serves to simply separate the other,
07:54far more interesting areas.
07:56On top of a visual overhaul, we desperately need more to do here.
07:59It's a perfect place to include more side quests, NPCs, and loot.
08:04Rather than speeding through it to get to where we're going, we welcome any additions
08:08that can distract us from the main path.
08:20Saving Zora's Domain
08:28After you beat the Forest Temple, the enemies infesting the Kokiri Forest leave.
08:33After you beat the Fire Temple, the Gorons are able to safely return to their home.
08:37But, after you beat the Water Temple, Zora's Domain remains frozen, with its denizens stuck
08:43there until the end credits.
08:45This is one of the game's more dissatisfying outcomes for completing a main quest.
08:49It feels less victorious when the problem of the area doesn't change.
08:53Many first time players have wondered why, or if there is an actual way to fix this problem.
08:59It probably would have made for extra coding work during development, but with a remake,
09:03this could be rectified.
09:04It would be so much more gratifying to feel Link made a bigger difference once he exits the dungeon,
09:10so we hope to see this outcome changed.
09:34We've talked about the inclusion of new dungeons with elements from Ura Zelda,
09:38but specifically, the Light Temple is a place we'd be over the moon to explore.
09:43As it rests inside the Sacred Realm, the only area we see is the Chamber of Sages,
09:48when Link meets Rauru after getting the Master Sword and each time he awakens another sage.
09:53During his first visit, Rauru simply gives Link his medallion,
09:57but it would be more interesting if we actually had to earn it like the others.
10:00Plus, it was the original home of the Triforce before Ganondorf broke in and claimed part of it for himself,
10:07which would also be interesting to see.
10:09If we did get to complete it, like the other temples, this would probably come with big story changes,
10:14which we're unsure if Nintendo is willing to do.
10:17Still, we can't deny it's awfully enticing.
10:30An interlude quest.
10:39Of all the things we've said we want to see, this is probably the least likely,
10:44but that won't stop us from dreaming.
10:46In the original game, Link's spirit is kept inside the Sacred Realm for seven years.
10:51Meanwhile, Ganondorf causes Hyrule to fall into ruin,
10:54and Zelda takes on the alter ego of Sheik to stay hidden while preparing for Link's return.
10:58Zelda's time during those seven years has always been a curious mystery,
11:03and if Nintendo wanted to expand on the story to give seasoned players something truly new,
11:08a separate storyline exploring her actions without Link is a great place to start.
11:12We imagine this as a smaller campaign, perhaps unlocked after beating the main story,
11:17a la Ada Wong's separate ways from Resident Evil 4.
11:21This would only serve to make her characterization stronger
11:23while adding newfound depth and history to an already historic game.
11:36Are you excited for the Ocarina of Time remake?
11:39What do you hope to see changed or added?
