00:07You really want to always keep colors a little bit more neutral for the lip blushing
00:11and based on their skin tone.
00:14I'm Brandy and I'm getting a lip blush tattoo done today.
00:18Growing up everyone has always said I had like a great smile,
00:21but my lips get like ashy and dry and I feel like they're kind of the same tone as my
00:26skin tone.
00:26To wake up one day and not have to worry about how my lips are looking or if it's too
00:33cold if they look ashy.
00:35So I'm excited just to have that extra step of beauty already done.
00:39I've never gotten any permanent makeup done before.
00:42I do have two tattoos so I'm like ready for the pain.
00:45I'm not sure if I ever like thought it was possible on my own skin tone
00:49just because I've always had like darker lips compared to some of my friends.
00:54But through talking to Bella she just let me know like she's really confident doing it on my skin tone
00:59and making sure it's bright and even.
01:01There's not a lot of artists that work on my skin tone or my complexion.
01:05So getting to know Bella made me believe that it's possible and I'm ready for it.

01:13I am a permanent makeup tattoo artist and trainer for the Lip Lush Academy of New Mexico.
01:19I've always been involved in the permanent makeup community
01:22because my mom has been a permanent makeup artist for a really long time
01:25and she really inspired me to start this career.
01:28I specialize in lip blush tattooing and training and I became known for it
01:33because I was one of the first people to actually bring new techniques of lip blushing to my state.
01:38Hi, how are you today?
01:40I'm doing great. I'm excited. How are you?
01:42I'm good. So what do you want to do today for your color?
01:45So I really like this like wine plum color.
01:48Okay, perfect.
01:49Not too bright, not too soft.
01:52So we can definitely mix a few colors.
01:55This one's going to give you like a little bit more of that like plummy red tone,
01:58especially when it mixes with your skin tone.
02:01Okay.
02:02And then if you wanted to do even like a little lighter like this one,
02:05we could add a couple drops of a different color.
02:07I'm ready. Let's do it.
02:09Let's get started.
02:12Because I have a history of cold sores,
02:14that's the main thing I feel nervous about.
02:16But at the end of the day, I felt like we've done everything right to prep for it.
02:21After consulting with Brandy, I will lay her down and then I will numb her for 20 to 25 minutes.
02:27I will go ahead and I will map her lips.
02:30I use a red gel pen to really define her borders and her shapes for where we will do the
02:34outline.
02:37I will use the white marker to apply around and that is our no-go zone.
02:41So we will not tattoo anywhere in the white.
02:44I will then show Brandy the mapping and let her approve of the lip shape and make any corrections that
02:50I see.
02:51I am going to start by doing her outline.
03:03Once her outline is complete, I will start shading in her lips and give her a fully opaque lip blush
03:10look.
03:12Due to Brandy's natural lip color, I have to go very slow and soft while doing her lip blush to
03:19make sure not to cause any damage.
03:21On Brandy, I did a lip neutralization first before adding her darker plum color and I kept everything at an
03:28orange base to counteract with her natural purple tones.
03:32Between shading her lips, I will continue to numb her so that she stays numb during the entire procedure.
03:39Because Brandy has a tendency for cold sores, I will have to be very gentle and I will have to
03:44make sure and layer the lip blush appropriately.
03:46That way I can prevent her from getting any cold sores and from causing any kind of hyperpigmentation onto her
03:53lips.
03:55On the top lip, I always have to be a little bit more gentle.
03:59The top lip has about 20,000 more nerve endings than the bottom lip and so it can be a
04:03lot more sensitive even with numbing cream.
04:16Lastly, I will just apply our olive gloss to her lips so that they can start healing.
04:20And now it's time for the mirror reveal.
04:25Oh, I love that color.
04:27And like, I actually have a shape now.
04:29Yes, it really defined your shape.
04:31So for aftercare, you're going to only want to apply this gloss.
04:34Okay.
04:35This is like our gloss.
04:36It has Arnica in it, which really helps to heal.
04:38It's also super hydrating and it'll just keep your lips from getting too dry and peeling too much where the
04:43color comes off.
04:44After two weeks, you can apply anything you'd like.
04:47And can I put the liacine on now still?
04:49You can, yes.
04:50Especially to help with the cold sores, you can put the liacine.
04:53And you do want to just treat it as an open wound for three days.
04:57So just be really cautious of what you put.
04:59But just keeping it moist in there with the product is going to help you the best.

05:06She did it so fast and it looks so different.
05:09I saw my cupid's bow for the first time.
05:12Like, she really got the color I wanted.
05:14The cupid's bow is definitely the most important part of your lip blush.
05:19And so adding a really nice cupid's bow to somebody's lips can just absolutely change their entire face.
05:24I feel like my lips, they're going to look more natural.
05:27But now with the cupid's bow, I just feel like it's a little more poutier.
05:30It just makes me feel a little bit more confident.
05:32Now I can just see the full shape of my lips.
05:36Hello.
05:37Just doing a two week update on my lips.
05:39I am in love.
05:41They are a nice natural color and I feel like I'm always wearing lipstick or I always look ready.
05:46I'm just very happy.
05:47It came out so nice.
05:49Finding the right pigment can sometimes be a little bit complicated.
05:52You always want to look at their natural undertones and make sure that their lips,
05:56you're never adding a darker tone to their lips than what they already have.
06:01Lip blushing takes a full six to eight weeks to heal and to see the true color.
06:04I expected the needle to feel a lot bigger than it did.
06:08I just expected it to be a bit more painful.
06:11You have to have a pain tolerance for sure to get it done, but also just be honest and
06:16just say, hey, can you wait?
06:17Can you numb it a little bit more?
06:19I would definitely get it touched up if I had to.
06:21I feel like Bella would like really be there for me if I had any concerns.
06:26I feel like if it needs to get touched up, I wouldn't be afraid to ask for it or kind
06:30of just let her know.
06:31I'm just thankful and I'm happy that I had this opportunity to do this and gift myself and just go
06:38ahead and take a chance.
