00:00The lip flip, it was traditionally used for women who were bothered by their vertical
00:06lip lines above the upper lip.
00:08We also noticed over time that people who were having this treatment done thought their
00:13lip looked just a tiny bit fuller.
00:15It's a nice temporary procedure so that you can kind of see what your lip will look like
00:20a little fuller.
00:27Hi, I'm Jordan and I'm getting a lip flip done today.
00:31I want to get the lip flip done today because I've always had a slight insecurity about my
00:36lips.
00:37I've always felt that my upper lip was a bit smaller than my bottom and I always wanted
00:41more fullness in my lips and so that's why I wanted to try out this procedure.
00:45I actually don't usually like to smile with my teeth because of my lips.
00:49I feel like my upper lip kind of goes away when I smile with my teeth so I'm definitely
00:54excited to, you know, show off my teeth a bit more once I have this procedure done.
00:59I would say I'm a little nervous of how it'll turn out because, you know, when you see other
01:05procedures done everyone's face is different but I have heard great things about this doctor
01:10and I'm confident that she'll do a good job and will know how to enhance them in the right
01:14way.
01:15I'm Dr. Nancy Sammelitis, I'm a board certified dermatologist and owner of Facile and Facile
01:21Skin Care in Los Angeles, California.
01:24I specialize in cosmetic dermatology but I'm really a big advocate of healthy skin in general.
01:30So the lip flip is a treatment that is done to relax the muscle partially just above the
01:37lip.
01:37And what happens when that muscle is relaxed is that the upper lip is able to show a little
01:44bit more.
01:44So it makes the lip look a very small amount fuller but it also prevents the lip from puckering
01:51too aggressively so it can prevent those upper lip lines that are very difficult to treat later
01:56in life.
01:58And it can also make the lip show more when you smile.
02:01Where that muscle is quite strong so right here and then we also come in a little bit right
02:06here.
02:07And do that big smile again so you can see how in the lip rolls under here and here it's
02:12going to help to achieve a more full look when you smile when you treat it that way.
02:16Perfect.
02:17Great.
02:18Are you ready to get started?
02:19I'm ready.
02:19Okay.
02:20Let's go.
02:23First I'm going to reconstitute the bottle of Botox.
02:26What we do is we take bacteriostatic normal saline and inject two and a half cc's into the
02:35Botox bottle.
02:36This makes the Botox into a liquid that's able to be injected into the patient's skin.
02:41This is a really nice simple introductory treatment for somebody who's nervous.
02:47It also helps that the treatment is so easy that I think she will be more comfortable
02:52with repeating it or maybe moving on to other procedures in the future.
02:57The needle that we use to inject is the finest needle that you can actually squeeze a liquid
03:04through.
03:05It's a 33 gauge needle and you barely feel it.
03:10Then I'm going to go ahead and draw up the amount of Botox units that Jordan specifically
03:15needs for her treatment.
03:17In this case, I'm going to be drawing up just four units of Botox, which is a very small amount
03:23of liquid.
03:24Next, I'm assessing where my injection points will be by asking Jordan to make a pucker face.
03:32So when I see her pucker her lips, I can see that I need two injection points per side.
03:39Now, I'm going to go ahead and start injecting.
03:45The entire procedure from start to finish, including drawing up the product, takes about
03:51five minutes.
03:53The price range for Botox Lip Flip probably varies depending on where you live.
03:58It can probably range anywhere from $150 to $300.
04:06Now, I'm going to go ahead and clean Jordan's skin with an antibacterial wipe.
04:11Next, I'm going to hand her some ice just to give her a little bit of anesthesia.
04:19Typically, topical numbing cream is not required for this procedure.
04:24Ice is totally adequate because it's a very fast procedure.
04:29Now, time for the reveal.
04:32Okay, go ahead and take a look.
04:35Oh, my gosh.
04:37So you can see everything looks pretty normal.
04:39Yes.
04:40You can go on about your day, and then you wait for the excitement to happen.
04:45Oh, I'm excited.
04:46I feel great.
04:47I think the procedure went really well.
04:50And I'm looking forward to seeing how they look in two weeks.
04:55Hello.
04:55So this is me a little over two weeks after the lip flip procedure.
05:00And I'm absolutely obsessed with how they turned out.
05:03It's nothing like too dramatic.
05:05It's just a little bit, you know, extra thickness in my upper lip.
05:11And you can tell, like, a little bit, especially when, like, I smile.
05:16So there.
05:18And even when I talk, you can see that the upper lip is a little bit more thick.
05:23And I'm just so happy with the results.
05:25I highly recommend the procedure, especially if you're, like, a little bit hesitant on,
05:31you know, filler and just kind of want to see what it would look like with a little bit extra
05:35fullness.
05:36Jordan did so great.
05:37Even though she was nervous, she didn't flinch.
05:41She didn't ask to take a break.
05:42Most patients do really well with this procedure.
05:45It's pretty simple.
05:46So the aftercare is pretty simple.
05:49Most of your normal activities are totally fine.
05:51I typically recommend not doing any strenuous exercise or doing something where your head might be inverted,
05:57like yoga or laying face down on a massage table, just for about 24 hours.
06:03I typically like to check in with my patients after about two weeks when I know the treatment is fully
06:08kicked in to see how they like it.
06:10Typically, when we use Botox or other neuromodulators, the results are known to last about three to four months.
06:18In this case, we're using a very small amount of product.
06:21So we typically expect the results to be of a shorter duration, usually about six to eight weeks.
06:29But everybody's different.
06:30And some people's product can wear off a little faster or last a little longer than we expect.
06:35So I feel that after this experience that I have a way more positive outlook on plastic surgery.
06:44And I think we've moved into a new time where it's okay to get work done and it's better to
06:49discuss how it went.
06:51I'm looking forward to the extra boost of confidence that I'm going to have.
06:56And hopefully my story helps others become more confident as well.
