00:01The pain level that the client experiences during the procedure is really minimal. I usually tell
00:07clients it's more of an annoying type of pain. It kind of feels similar to like popping blackheads
00:12or getting an intense facial. My name is Cindy Tang and I'm getting a full freckles permanent
00:20makeup tattoo done today. I've always been super into fashion and makeup and I definitely moved
00:25to LA for it. So I always wanted to try out the newest trend to see what's popping out
00:31there. When I first heard about full freckles, I was kind of unsure because most people decide
00:38to draw them so that they can remove it and change it look like every other day. I feel
00:42like freckles enhance natural beauty and even though mine will be fake, but I still want to
00:49achieve that like embrace yourself type of energy. My name is Nora Grace and I'm a
00:55cosmetic tattoo artist at Fiction Cosmetic Tattooing in Echo Park, Los Angeles. I got started in
01:01cosmetic tattooing after working in the film industry for a couple years. I used to do special
01:06effects makeup and then kind of transitioned into the world of tattooing just because I wanted
01:10more of like a client connection and wanted to be able to help people out. I do have my own
01:16faux
01:16freckles on my face and I did them myself. Because of my background in special effects makeup and just
01:21kind of working with skin tones and all of that, I had a feeling it was one of those things
01:24I'd be
01:25able to kind of perfect and it ended up working out really great and now I've
01:29kind of been able to perfect my technique for myself and on clients. It's been
01:33giving me really really great healed results. I think Instagram has a lot of
01:39fake freckle filters because a lot of girls have natural freckles so other
01:43people see oh it could be something that's cute it's the beauty in it. I do
01:47think that I've been doing more faux freckle procedures since the Instagram
01:51filters came out. It's really easy to try them on with a filter and they kind of
01:55get hooked on them. Cosmetic tattooing is generally a little more surface level
02:00so it's not quite as permanent in your body. We use specialty pigments that are
02:06created to kind of fade over time so that we can update your look and make sure
02:11that it ages well with you as opposed to body tattooing which is permanent. I feel
02:16like I'm not too scared of needles but in the same time I feel like that's like
02:21the biggest part about this procedure that I'm super worried about.
02:35I put some numbing cream on the client while I set up my tools. Each client has
02:42their own individual skin tone with unique undertones and all of that. So I
02:46have a couple pigment colors that are generally my go-to's for freckles but I
02:51always swatch them on the client's skin first just to make sure that it's a good
02:54match for their undertones and for their existing skin.
03:01After Cindy has numbed for a while I wipe off the numbing cream and then I start to
03:06draw the freckles on Cindy.
03:23After Cindy is happy with the freckle placement we begin tattooing.
03:36I take one of my smaller needles, I dip it in my first color of pigment, and I start gently
03:42tattooing each one of the freckles on Cindy's cheeks.
04:00I start on her cheeks and slowly move in towards the center of her face.
04:09After a first pass I will then wipe the pigment from Cindy's face and then apply a secondary numbing.
04:17This secondary numbing agent just helps to ensure that Cindy is really comfortable through the whole procedure.
04:54After I do a first pass over all the freckles and make sure they're all laid in place and get
05:00the secondary numbing agent on them, I then wipe the agent off and start tattooing a second pass.
05:07I then wipe the notes.
05:08I also wipe the teeth.
05:34I'm making sure that everything is exactly how I want it to be.
05:38And I just kind of bounce around to add those little irregularities in before I have Cindy
05:43take her final look.
05:49Okay, here.
05:50Take a look.
05:51Oh my God, they're so cute.
05:54They're like 3D right now.
05:56So cool.
05:57I'm super happy with the result.
05:59I feel super cute afterwards.
06:01I told my boss and my friends I'm getting full freckles done.
06:04And when they see me after their treatment, they were like, oh my God, let me see.
06:08Let me see.
06:08And I just feel like, oh.
06:10The freckles came out so cute on Cindy and she was so happy and just glowing,
06:15which made them look even cuter.
06:16It's always great when a client is really, really thrilled when you show them the mirror.
06:20And she was.
06:21So it made them look extra adorable.
06:23My aftercare process, I just use a super, super mild gentle cleanser over the face.
06:29And I would pat dry it really, really fast as soon as I'm done washing, as well as moisturizer.
06:34The aftercare process for freckles is really easy.
06:37I always tell clients the most important thing is to just treat it like a tattoo.
06:41So you want to keep it clean and you want to keep it dry.
06:44You just got to trust your skin to kind of heal itself.
06:46And usually within a couple of days, your freckles will have kind of peeled and revealed this really soft natural
06:52look underneath.
06:53After I get my treatment, there's a lot of scabbing going on around the second day or the third day.
06:58And after I wash my face and gently pat dry it, some of them just kind of disappear throughout the
07:04days.
07:05You can definitely see there's light and dark dimension in it.
07:09I usually tell clients that faux freckles can last anywhere from one to three years.
07:13But this really depends on the client's skincare, the client's sun exposure,
07:18and just the client's skin itself and how it retains pigment.
07:21I definitely feel better about myself after getting faux freckles down
07:24because everyone first thing noticed, they noticed my freckles.
07:27And they were like, oh my god, that's so cute.
07:29I didn't know you had freckles.
07:31I'm like...
