00:01So, where do you want to go for dinner?
00:04Oh, I'm not having this argument yet.
00:07No, I don't think that's it.
00:11I'm going to put on my therapist hand here.
00:13I didn't know you ever took it off.
00:17Okay, good.
00:18So, it's getting there.
00:21You're trying to, if anything, show me that you've grown.
00:25Does that make sense?
00:26Mm-hmm.
00:26So I just want you to have the con-
00:30I want to grow, Ken.
00:34Why won't you let me grow?
00:37Let's watch. Let's re-watch this, okay?
00:39Yeah?
00:40Yeah.
00:41Okay, come around this side.
00:44And here.
00:45We'll watch it together.
00:49So, where do you want to go for dinner?
00:51Uh, oh no.
00:53I am not having this argument again.
00:56No.
00:58I want to grow, Ken.
01:00Why won't you let me grow?
01:03Okay.
01:03What do you take away from today?
01:05Uh, to trust myself and be myself and to give you a hug.
01:10Oh, you're awesome.
01:14You're awesome.
01:15Okay, we're done.
01:16We'll delete this.
01:17No one else in the history of humankind is going to see this ever again.
01:20It'll be very fun.
01:21It'll be good.
01:22Come here.
01:29This is my house.
01:35Ta-da!
01:37This is my bed.
01:39We spend a lot of time sitting here.
01:42This is where I can cook, but I don't do too much cooking.
01:48So this is my home. Thank you for coming. My name is Sandra Bowes. I am 60-ish.
01:58You can't be that old. I am that old. How old are you? I'm 69. See, I told you.
02:05That's so cool though. I've been here for two months. I was living in Maui with my partner Ted.
02:16I applied through backstage from Maui to parts here in LA and I got one. So I just came.
02:28When I was younger I did quite a bit of acting and then I got married and had kids and
02:33I just realized
02:34that I was gonna have to spend night after night after night away from my kids and I didn't want
02:40to.
02:41So I just kind of put acting on the back shelf for my mom years.
02:46This is the mom-ish Sandra Bowes.
02:51Do I look like a mom? And then this is more elegant writer type Sandra Bowes.
03:00On the back is my resume.
03:03And some of the things are on IMDB which I'm really excited about.
03:11Okay, so this one I would apply for. So you press the apply button and then you just type your
03:18thing
03:18and then you go apply now.
03:22So, voila, success.
03:31Today I'm doing background work and hopefully I thought it said in the ad that we're like
03:39featured background that they'll give us lines to say.
03:59You were in there for a long time.
04:00I know. They did three different shots and then several takes of each shot.
04:06And did you get any lines?
04:09No lines.
04:12But it was neat.
04:13One of the other actors, he was sitting across from me and he was like,
04:17whoa, you were really acting like you were really playing it.
04:21You know, because I was, you know, I was really pretending.
04:29Health food.
04:31But I don't see any spoons.
04:34It doesn't bother you that you only get paid for these things sometimes?
04:39No, because I'm doing it because I love it.
04:54I don't really want to get famous. You know what I mean? I just, I'd like to get really good.
04:59And I mean, my big dream would be to get some kind of award.
05:04And I'd love to have my kids be with me at the award ceremony.
05:09I think that would be so neat. Or Ted.
05:11Although Ted's not really into film. So, anyway.
05:17I think Ted was very scared of losing me.
05:21I think he was terrified, actually.
05:23But I just decided I wanted to start living my dream after all these years.
05:27Okay, so, where are we going?
05:30Um, we're going to an audition. It's called Singing to the Sheep.
05:40Hello, Space Station Captain.
05:45If you walk out that door right now, you'll be picking a world of strangers over your legacy.
05:52Great. So, let's go through it one more time. Have her, like, to have him sort of move
05:58more towards the city life is not necessarily the direction that she thinks is best for George.
06:04So, with that in mind, um, go ahead and can you slate for the camera and then give a nod
06:10to Renee whenever you're ready?
06:12Okay.
06:14A world of fear that you don't know and that'll chew you up and spit you out like you needs.
06:23Great. So, we're going to be making our decisions, um, either this week or next week.
06:30All right.
06:30Thank you so much for coming into the audition. Thank you so much.
06:33Bye. Thank you.
06:34You have a good one.
06:35You too.
06:39I felt like it was medium.
06:42Yeah, I didn't, um, his direction, I kind of had an idea in my head already of how it was
06:48going to be
06:49and I don't think I took the direction very well. So, medium.
07:10I've wanted to do this for my whole life and I put everything on the back burner for everybody else
07:18and now it's, it's my time to do it and I really wish that you were on board with me.
07:25I really do.
07:26Can you tell me what you were thinking about when you were doing it?
07:30What I was thinking? I was thinking that Dad was leaving. Um, it, I mean, this could be a very
07:35real
07:36situation coming up in the future because he's moving here and, um, I really am into doing acting and
07:46driving through the traffic and everything and he's not, but I can't, I can't not be who I am.
07:56I can't do that. I can't put myself on the back burner anymore. I have to do what I want
08:04to do with the
08:05years that I have left. And if it doesn't work out? Well, that'll have to be okay.
08:22Every time I push against that fear in myself, it seems to have a positive outcome.
08:29Um, so it's very wonderful to not be ruled by fear because it's, uh, the journey is what is important.
08:42It's not the goal. It's the journey along the way.
08:51If there's anything, anything in the world that I really, really, really want, it's to be good.
08:58Okay. Let's go.
09:06Hey, everybody. Thank you so much for watching. My name is Nina Letty and I'm the director of LA Land.
