00:00I'm Lucy Fink. I'm a video producer at Refinery29, but every so often I like to try other people's jobs.
00:08Today I'm at Doe Cookie Dough Confections, and I'm going to see if I have what it takes to make
00:12my very own cookie dough flavor.
00:14This is Lucy for Hire.
00:20I've always loved cookie dough, and I really wanted to create a place where cookie dough was the star.
00:26It was safe to eat, it was bakeable, it came in all sorts of fun flavors. It was all about
00:31cookie dough for me.
00:32There's my dough scooping mother.
00:36Dough is one of the hottest dessert shops in New York City right now.
00:39Locals and tourists from all around the world are lining up daily, sometimes for hours at a time, just to
00:45get a scoop of this sweet, edible cookie dough.
00:47Let's dough it.
00:49Your first challenge is to pick your base.
00:52Sugar cookie.
00:53Okay, so you have so many options.
00:55Kristin let me taste all six of the bases that they offer.
00:59Sugar cookie, brownie batter, cake batter, signature, oatmeal, and peanut butter.
01:09It hit me.
01:09I strategically left a little bit on each spoon so that I could go back.
01:15I finally picked my base.
01:17I think I'm going sugar cookie.
01:19Sugar cookie.
01:19We chose it.
01:20Your second challenge is to invent the flavor.
01:24When we come up with flavors, we think about our favorite candies, our favorite toppings, what is kind of nostalgic
01:31to you.
01:32Like I'd love to make something that brings me back.
01:34Yeah.
01:34So I'm trying to think of what I ate in the 90s.
01:41Chips Ahoy, Gushers.
01:44Good.
01:44Let's make Dunkaroos.
01:45Oh my God.
01:45Do you have a Dunkaroo flavor?
01:46I think we can make one.
01:48Okay.
01:48We're making a Dunkaroo flavor.
01:49This is it.
01:51Dunkaroos were one of my favorite childhood snacks.
01:53Graham cookies dunked in delicious, fluffy frosting.
01:56So we pulled out all of the necessary ingredients and got ready to create.
02:00Your third challenge is to make the dough.
02:04We made the dough by mixing butter.
02:06It even turned up a little bit higher.
02:08Sugar.
02:09And our wet ingredients.
02:11So this is vanilla.
02:12Vanilla.
02:13Pure vanilla.
02:14And our pasteurized egg.
02:15So our egg is one of the things that makes our cookie dough unique.
02:19Obviously everyone says, oh you can get sick from eggs, don't eat raw cookie dough.
02:22So our eggs are pasteurized so that means it goes through a heat process which kills any
02:27potential bacteria.
02:28And then adding in our dry ingredients.
02:30Our dry ingredients that we put in first to completely incorporate.
02:34So this is going to be our sea salt, our baking soda, baking powder, and a few other secret
02:40family recipes that I can't tell you.
02:43So this is going to probably make about three pounds.
02:48Perfect.
02:49One serving.
02:50Once it was mixed to perfection, we spooned it into a bowl to add our toppings.
02:55Oh yeah.
02:58Okay, just all in?
03:00You can do as much as you want.
03:01You probably don't need all of that.
03:03Yeah, that's probably good.
03:05We can always add more at the end today.
03:06We mixed in rainbow sprinkle dust, honey grounds.
03:12You ready for the frosting?
03:14Yeah.
03:15And folded in vanilla frosting.
03:17Around 9 o'clock.
03:20How's it look?
03:21So swirly!
03:22Your final challenge is to taste test.
03:25This is not a hard challenge.
03:31Oh man.
03:34It tastes just like Dunkaroos!
03:36Yay!
03:37That's the point, right?
03:38Mm-hmm.
03:39It was only 10 a.m.
03:40But the line outside was already in full swing.
03:43So I decided to make everybody's day and give them a little taste of my new flavor.
03:47Really good.
03:48We're about to bring our Dunkaroo cookie dough and our Teddy Gramps outside to people in line.
03:58So I made a Dunkaroo.
04:00You know?
04:01If you want a dip.
04:06Oh, a 10.
04:07Oh, a 10.
04:08Yeah.
04:09So this is Dunkaroo.
04:11You know?
04:12Childhood dream.
04:15Mmm.
04:16Yep.
04:17I think Ava will give us the most honest opinion, right?
04:21Delicious.
04:23How is this?
04:24Not worth it.
04:24Good?
04:25Okay.
04:25I think now I'm going to get this when I go inside.
04:27I'm going to get something different.
04:28I don't know if this is not available yet.
04:31So how'd I do?
04:32You did great.
04:33Yeah?
04:33Yeah, you're hired.
04:34I got like five people saying they wanted to buy it today.
04:37It was a definite success.
04:38Huge success.
04:39All in all, it was an awesome experience to be part of something that's taking the
04:43dessert world by storm.
04:45Oh my gosh, it's so good.
04:47Today really brought back some amazing childhood cookie dough memories.
04:50And if you're ever in New York, do not forget to add this place to your to-do list.
04:55I mean, your to-do list.
04:57How is it, guys?
