00:05I gotta fish! What do I do?
00:07Okay, keep strippin'.
00:12For the last three years, I've been wanting to fish.
00:16I don't have a lot of time to fish.
00:17I don't know how to fish.
00:19I don't have the supplies.
00:21I'm stuck in New York City and I'm so busy all day.
00:23Did you know you can go fly fishing in Central Park?
00:26I didn't.
00:27So I think it's time to go fly fishing and see if there are actually flies involved.
00:33I'm about to head up to the Orvis store on 5th Avenue and meet up with Rob, their fly fishing
00:37expert.
00:38I'm really excited to tell people I went fishing in the Harlem air.
00:43So excited. I've really been waiting for this for months. Years.
00:47Years.
00:48My whole life.
00:48Me too.
00:50Fly fishing is a type of fishing where you're not actually using insects, but imitations of insects, aquatic insects.
00:56Our flies are made of fur and feather and some synthetic material.
01:01So like this fly here is a little damselfly.
01:05It looks like a real bug.
01:07Exactly. We're making imitations to fool these fish.
01:10Do you think we're going to catch any fish?
01:14I know I will.
01:15Oh.
01:16The act of casting is really where the beauty of the sport comes in.
01:19And catching a fish that's a pretty good size on a really small fly is very rewarding.
01:25I'm ready. Should I change my outfit?
01:26Yeah. Let's get you in a little bit more fishy clothing and then we'll go fishing.
01:33Thank you. Here we go. I'm going fly fishing. Yeah.
01:42I've never been fly fishing before but today my goal is to catch ten fish. With Rob.
01:48Fish, where are you? I'm coming for you. All of you.
01:52There's plenty of fish right here.
01:54Yeah?
01:55Yeah.
01:56We'll start with the line in the water. Bring it back nice and slow.
01:59And then lift the arm up.
02:01Flick it.
02:02Flick it forward. And it creates a nice roll.
02:04So I'm going to hand it off to you. See if you paid attention.
02:07Okay.
02:08Bring the rod back nice and slow. Straight over your right shoulder.
02:12And look for that D loop when that line gets beyond. Perfect.
02:15And now you're going to flick it forward. Awesome roll pass.
02:18There it is.
02:19That is awesome.
02:19Lucy from what I know is a first time fly fisher. Not much fishing experience at all.
02:25I would probably say it's going to take her maybe a half hour to an hour before she catches the
02:29first fish.
02:29If she catches one at all.
02:31Flick it.
02:32Awesome.
02:33I got a fish. What do I do?
02:35Okay. Keep stripping. Keep stripping that line. Keep going.
02:39You also have to yell and shout.
02:41Yeah.
02:42Little yellow perch. This is one of the bigger fish here in the mirror.
02:44Today my goal is to catch 10 fish.
02:47Let's get him back in the water.
02:48Nice to see you.
02:48Hi little guy.
02:49Bye Lucy. Nice to meet you.
02:51You too.
02:54Whoa.
02:56Whoa.
02:57Whoa.
02:57Whoa.
02:58Okay. Okay. We got him. We got him.
03:01He's ours.
03:03Perfect roll cast.
03:05Perfect. Look at him. He's got it.
03:07Whoa.
03:09Oh no.
03:10Oh no.
03:11Fish down.
03:13He's okay.
03:13Okay.
03:13The fly is safe too.
03:15Let's get him back in there.
03:16Okay.
03:17Let's see if you have a fish on there.
03:19Oh my god I have a fish.
03:20Fish number four.

03:24Okay.
03:26Got him.
03:27Yes.
03:28Perfect.
03:29Fish number five everyone.
03:31New York City's finest.
03:33What kind of fish is this?
03:34This is a bluegill.
03:35Bluegill.
03:36Okay little baby.
03:37Have a good day.
03:38Bye bye.
03:41So at the end of the day I only caught five fish but five I think is a lot.
03:46I feel like I had an idea that I wanted to try fishing.
03:50I did a quick Google search.
03:51I found that I could fish in Central Park and I went out and did it.
03:54I feel accomplished.
03:55I feel strong.
03:57I feel fishy and I'm ready to try something else that I didn't know existed in New York.
04:04Lucy has really good form.
04:06I was really taken back with how quickly she learned.
04:09She'd get caught up a couple times because she got really excited about some of the fish
04:13that we saw.
04:14It happens to all of us even a seasoned angler.
04:16Oh no.
04:17We got a lot of algae.
04:19But she picked it up really fast and she seems like she's going to be a great student
04:21and hopefully carry on with fly fishing.
04:24That was awesome.
04:28I didn't expect that.
04:30I caught five fish.
04:31Five whole fish.
04:33Yeah.
