00:00You know, going to prom in the South is kind of like getting married, so you have
00:04to like find the right dress, find the right date, you have to have the right
00:08corsage, everything has to be like perfect. The thing about prom is it
00:12doesn't matter that much, but you still want it to be perfect. It's like the one
00:16night that everyone is looking their best. I actually didn't have a prom. I went to
00:20a really really small high school and there weren't enough seniors or juniors
00:24to fill up a room for a dance. You can leave school at 16 in England. I didn't
00:29like not finish school, but you go to prom when you're 18 and I just missed out.
00:35Prom has become a rite of passage for high schoolers everywhere. For some, prom is an
00:41extravagant affair full of excitement and fun. For others, prom brings up feelings
00:46of anxiety or fear of not being accepted. Everyone has a prom story. We teamed up
00:53with our friends at Hollywire to do prom our way.
00:58You ready? If you guys see this, please be our dates this Friday. I had a lot of fun with
01:03my friends because I feel like the party did not start until we came in. I spent so
01:08much time picking out my dress and picking out the colors and everything was perfect,
01:14hairstyle, everything. And the one thing that I wanted was for my date to match. And he didn't.
01:21He didn't even try. I had tried to dye my hair blonde because I wanted to look like Britney Spears,
01:26but it turned out orange. But I just rocked it. I wore a Betsy Johnson pink little frilly dress. And
01:32I
01:32wore pink and black ear maxes. And I even put little rhinestones on the Nike check. And if I had
01:37the
01:37opportunity to do prom, I would want to go all out since I've never experienced it.
01:45Reformation invited us to come shop for prom dresses. So Naya and I are heading over and
01:49we're so excited to try stuff on. I'm really just trying to find like what salon I would wear to
01:57prom.
02:00Yeah. In high school, my mom never would have let me wear this. I think it is kind of risky,
02:08but just enough risk. Not my favorite cut. I love green though. So I really like this. I like this
02:18dress.
02:18I don't know if it's dressy enough for prom. This feels really nice. Also, I've never worn a dress this
02:28color.
02:29It's a little intimidating for me. I love this dress so much because of the navy and the lace.
02:39It's beautiful and I feel super elegant. I feel like we both found our perfect dress.
02:47So if I had to do prom again, I would totally do it. This time around though, I would definitely,
02:53definitely force my date to wear exactly what I wanted him to wear. This is, you know, this is prom.
03:00This is not a democracy. It's all about what I want, of course. This reminds me of the
03:06boys in church who would have the really fly like Easter outfits.
03:15It's good. I like it. I like the way it looks, but I think the only problem is it's not
03:21going to match like the color.
03:22Ooh, I really like those pants. Yeah, those are fly. I love good patent leather.
03:28I actually kind of like the flat material with this. Yes. I love this. I love this. This is like
03:35exactly what I was thinking.
03:37This is perfect. Yeah. I definitely wish that I had gone to prom. I feel like it seems like so
03:43much fun and
03:43that's why I'm excited to go to Refinery29s for getting dressed up. You do your hair and makeup all cute.
03:48Like I don't have any excuse to like, you know, dress up, maybe dress like a princess at night.
04:04So trying on prom dresses is honestly kind of a pain. Like I remember it the first time around.
04:10And not only am I picky about style, but just size wise, it's really annoying.
04:17So I'm at the mall. I'm about to look for this prom dress. The first dress and it's definitely way
04:26too big for my boobs.
04:28So this is the second dress. Again, it's way too big. I mean, I look good in it, but I'm
04:35not sure if this is like the one.
04:36It's not wowing me. Honestly, at this point, I'm not even sure what I'm going to wear.
04:43All this prom talk has made me kind of want to feel glamorous and special.
04:48And one thing that kind of stops me from feeling that way is my hair.
04:52I haven't gotten it cut in who knows how long.
04:57And it's, I mean, you can tell it's, it needs a little love.
05:04Okay, starting to freak out. Here I go. I'm here.
05:10Look at that.
05:16My look is an ode to Solange because she is the queen of all things fashion.
05:22It's the day of prom and I'm excited to finally wear my hair down.
05:26If there's ever a time to sit with rolls in your hair, it's definitely prom.
05:35I absolutely cannot wait for our 29's prom. Let's dance.

06:08I'm having so much fun with all my friends from Hollywire and my new friends from Refinery29.
06:13Nobody stole my shoes yet and my hair is my natural color.
06:16So I think it's a win.
06:22My dress is very different from what I wore in high school.
06:26I went from Betsy Johnson cupcake to a lady.
06:34I think there's not as much pressure going into this prom because I've already done it once.
06:38So it's sort of like, okay, let's just do it.
06:40I know I want to dance a lot. I know I want to laugh a lot. Let's just have fun.
06:45I'm so excited about the Refinery prom because my first prom, I didn't actually get to go with someone that
06:51I love.
06:52My prom was fun, but this has been an amazing experience altogether because we have to pick this tux out
06:58together.
06:59I think we actually matched the best that I've ever matched with anyone.
07:03Really?
07:03Yeah.

07:05And she said she loves me.
07:06I do love you.
07:14I don't usually wear color like this.
07:17And now that I'm wearing this red dress, I feel like I should wear red all the time.
07:22It makes me feel powerful.
07:26I love my look. I love my hair. I'm not a huge makeup person, but this is definitely the look
07:33that I wanted. For sure.
07:41I've got all my best Hollywood girls with me. We're literally having the best time ever.
07:50We've all been having so much fun and I will say this prom tops my original prom.
07:55Prom is just one of the many special nights that you will have with friends in your life.
08:00So don't worry if your feet hurt, your dress rips, or your date doesn't show.
08:05At the end of the day, you will have more.
08:08So wear what you want, go with who you want, and celebrate life.
