00:10There's one makeup look I love, but it's really scary.
00:13And I think it's scary for a lot of people,
00:15which is the intense dark lip.
00:18The dark lip.
00:19I love it, but every time I try it,
00:21I look like I'm 14 again, which is not
00:24what I'm looking for right now.
00:25No, it does have that very gothy craft kind of look.
00:29You've got some secret tips.
00:30I've got some great secrets.
00:31I knew you did.
00:32When you're working with a bold lip color,
00:34most of those colors tend to be more matte or satin textured.
00:37So you don't want to go in with a high shine balm.
00:40I like something like a lip protector
00:42that I can just bring on only in the center of the lip,
00:44where you get dry, just to treat and protect the lip.
00:48But you don't want to go too far to the outer edges
00:50with your moisturizer, because that
00:52is what makes lipstick spread.
00:53With a deep dark lip, I love a pencil that's
00:56the same color as the lip.
00:57And shading into the corners of the lip
01:01with my lip pencil is going to push that pout forward
01:05so that I still get a full, beautiful pouty lip,
01:08even with a darker color.
01:10The next trick is concealer.
01:12A little bit of concealer right around the lip line
01:16is a great way to make the lip look larger.
01:19Because we're working with a darker color that's
01:22going to make the lips look smaller,
01:24we want to bring in something that makes them look fuller.
01:27Concealer is a really easy way to do it.
01:29And then I just blend that up with a concealer brush
01:32or my foundation brush.
01:34And that lighter color just gives us a perfect full lip.
01:38And the last step is our lip color.
01:40How do you choose that dark lip color?
01:42That's something that can be really difficult for women.
01:44Yes, for me.
01:45When you're working with a red or you're working with a bold color,
01:48you want to look at the undertone of your skin.
01:50If you have a cool undertone, something with a cool family
01:54is going to look much more natural on you than something warm.
01:57If you've got a warm undertone, something in the warm color family
01:59is going to look more natural.
02:01Combining the two neutralizes or will make them pop,
02:05depending on how you apply them.
02:06And what we're going to do is go in with a really rich, bold, blackened burgundy.
02:12Okay, this is kind of scary.
02:15The color is like a black orchid.
02:17It's called Black Dahlia.
02:18And what I'm going to do is take this kind of combination lipstick and lip gloss
02:24that's called Lip Tar.
02:25And I'm starting only in the center of the lip.
02:28And I'm just going to sheer it out.
02:32One of the ways to make that dark lip work is to kind of popsicle stain it.
02:39That pressing gives us that popsicle stain that's so popular with these deep, dark colors.
02:46And just finish it with a lip brush so you get that shape.
