With reports of LeBron James being interested in playing with Anthony Davis on the new team he plans on signing with, does this open up the door for the Washington Wizards to land him? Kevin Sheehan, Producer Max and callers give their thoughts on if they would rather LeBron James join Anthony Davis on the Wizards or trade Anthony Davis to another team.
Transcript
00:00Kevin O'Connor from Yahoo Sports is reporting that LeBron is waiting before he signs with a team for both
00:15Kyrie Irving or Anthony Davis to get traded to a team that he can join so he can team up
00:24with one of them.
00:26So the question and we've put it out there at 301-230-0980 it's also our poll of the day
00:34driven by Waldorf Honda it all starts with a click waldorfhonda.com and that is would you rather the Wizards
00:42sign LeBron to join AD here or trade Anthony Davis to join LeBron elsewhere.
00:53You can vote on that poll I just reposted it so you can follow me or go to at Kevin
00:59Sheehan DC and see that poll available for you to vote right now you can also get it at team
01:04980.
01:05I would rather have LeBron come here I don't think it's going to happen I think that the odds on
01:13favorite and it's a heavy favorite is that Anthony Davis plays here without a contract extension and has to prove
01:22something during the course of the season.
01:24That's what I think will happen I think that is by far and away the odds on favorite but the
01:28reason I would love it if LeBron joined here fourfold number one is I don't want to wait another two
01:36or three years before they're competitive and they're playing for playoff positioning and in the playoffs.
01:41Number two is Anthony Davis would be awfully motivated if LeBron came here I think they have a good relationship
01:49they want a title together so that would be good number three immediately relevant immediately relevant in the NBA the
01:57Wizards would become a focused on team big time like we haven't had in forever
02:04like forever for the most part and then lastly I think LeBron's still good enough if he's your third best
02:13player you know let's just say Trey Young Anthony Davis are playing they're healthy and LeBron's in there the Wizards
02:21over under number which I looked this up during the break I was actually expecting it to still be pretty
02:26low like in the low 30s I saw 37 and a half I thought I saw 36 and a half
02:33they won 17 games last year there are some expectations that the Wizards are going to be much better next
02:40year that's not a big leap on an over bet to get you into the top six in the East
02:47I mean the East is you know a little bit loaded more so than it has been with obviously the
02:54Knicks and Celtics Pistons Cavs you know the top four from last year the 76ers with the acquisition the Raptors
03:01with Kawhi the Heat with Yana
03:03the Pacers the Pacers getting Tyrese Halliburton back so the East the Magic who came on a little bit last
03:09year Hornets the same thing but I think the Wizards with that group would definitely be in the mix for
03:15top five in the East and totally relevant I don't think LeBron would want to come here though but which
03:22of the two would you choose LeBron here or AD with LeBron elsewhere sign LeBron or trade Anthony Davis and
03:31why Max what would your choice be here
03:34um honestly going forward with how everything's shaped up I want the Wizards to keep their young core intact and
03:41I would like them to get them as much playing time and as much experience as they can get so
03:47I would probably lean towards trading AD
03:49so that would be the one downside of bringing LeBron here is you're perhaps slowing the development of some of
03:59the young guys by the way most notably AJ DeBonsa because LeBron's not coming off the bench head small forward
04:06right so um yeah now could he play with LeBron of course of course uh let's start with Curtis Curtis
04:16if I told you
04:17one of the two one of the two happened which one would you prefer trading AD to join LeBron elsewhere
04:24or bringing LeBron here to join Anthony Davis
04:29really neither neither one I mean this LeBron just got to stop I like when he was young I mean
04:33this is he gonna come message development of the team
04:36and if they want to go he can go too I mean there'd be two dinosaurs trying to pass stats
04:42and stuff enough is enough with this stuff
04:44keep the core together and we look the Wizards was better last year than people think they gave away games
04:49so they could take they could have won these
04:50the 27 or 30 games last year if you watch the games last year they gave a lot of games
04:54away late by benching players not playing the next game and all that
04:57LeBron go he need to retire enough is enough with this crap thank you
05:01well let me just say when they had CJ McCollum they were a bit competitive
05:05and then down the stretch they were basically giving up 140 to 150 a night
05:11they sucked now as far as the young core I get that okay I understand that
05:17but there's no guarantee that this young core is going to develop into a
05:22contending core and if it does we got to wait another two three four years
05:26for it I don't want to wait two three four years
05:30Mark and Largo go ahead where you been
05:34well hey
05:39that's exactly what
05:40what Max said
05:41sorry I didn't call about the other
05:43doing some other things but I'll be
05:44you don't have to apologize I just said where you been
05:47I mean I'm I'm I'm
05:49I care about you I want to make sure you're okay
05:51and we did like two hours of commanders calls
05:53Mark I was curious as to your opinion
05:55yeah I know oh I'll be back
05:57when the commanders don't worry about that
05:59look I remember 25 years ago
06:01and you do too Kevin maybe Max don't
06:04but Kevin you definitely sure don't five years ago
06:06I know it was a circus with the Jordan Jordan
06:09with Michael Jordan and the Jordan factors
06:11okay let's call it what it was
06:14LeBron I agree with the last call I think LeBron does need to go
06:16and then he's retired to be honest
06:19I think Anthony Davis I would trade him away and get
06:22get youth in back I would trade Anthony and Davis
06:24to play with LeBron so we can get youth back
06:27Kevin I disagree with you as far as building block
06:29I think the biggest issue this team needs to address the coach
06:33I don't know how the hell Brian Keefe could still have a job
06:35I know he was developing
06:37but I think if this team is going to get somewhere
06:40I think you have to seriously consider looking at getting
06:42a coach that teaches defenses
06:45I mean I think that's
06:47I don't even know how you'd evaluate
06:49Brian Keefe at this point
06:50that may be true I think this is the first year you're going to have with him
06:53of course they're trying to win this year
06:55so we'll evaluate him this year
06:57he was developing players the last couple of years
07:01and that's fair
07:02and that's fair
07:02okay I have no problem with that
07:03but my thing is you have a big three right now
07:06with your young core
07:07and your big three is Zarr
07:10Trey Johnson
07:11and AJ
07:11okay
07:12Zarr
07:12the player that you think is better than Wembenyama
07:16yeah he's a better post-up player than Wembenyama
07:20I will continue to say that
07:21that's not what you said before
07:22you haven't talked about post-up comparisons
07:25you've just said that Alex Zarr
07:26is a better player
07:28and will become a better player
07:29than Victor Wembenyama
07:31I think he will
07:31okay
07:32I think he will
07:32yeah stick with it
07:33I think he will
07:34so anyway I'm going to stick with it
07:35and I'm aware
07:36if he don't he don't
07:37but I think he will
07:38I think those core can take you somewhere
07:40if you let them play
07:41but I do think
07:42if they get off to a bad start
07:44I think Keith has to go
07:46but I would trade Davis
07:47and let him play with LeBron
07:49okay
07:50I mean
07:53we're talking about
07:54this franchise
07:56has not been
07:57I mean
07:58truly relevant
07:59even with John
08:00even with John and Bradley
08:02Mark does what he always does
08:04Mark's back everybody
08:07Mark go ahead
08:08it's your show
08:08really happy
08:10that you let me jump on with you
08:12first time long time
08:14see you later
08:14get rid of him
08:15I want to get Anthony on here
08:16before we have to say goodbye
08:18we're talking about
08:21LeBron James
08:23Anthony Davis
08:25a little bit lesser extent
08:27Trey Young
08:27and a core of some promising young players
08:31do you know how much attention
08:33would be on our NBA team
08:35from not just the league
08:38and the league's fans
08:38around the world
08:40there are probably countries
08:42that love the NBA
08:43that barely even know
08:44the Wizards exist
08:48Anthony
08:49LeBron
08:50with
08:51AD here
08:53or AD
08:53somewhere else
08:54with LeBron
08:56man this is a no brainer
08:58LeBron comes here
09:00between the three of them
09:04injuries allotted for
09:06this is the fifth
09:08fifth seed
09:09or better team
09:10yeah
09:11I think so
09:15with a lot of
09:17playoff experience
09:18on that roster
09:20exactly
09:20and the youngins
09:22learning along the way
09:23along with getting
09:24playing time
09:24right
09:25playing in big games
09:26meaningful games
09:28because imagine
09:29you got three
09:31three veterans
09:33they're not going to
09:34be required to play
09:3545 minutes a game
09:36so you end up
09:37the lineup
09:40Brian gets rest
09:41Trey gets rest
09:42AD gets rest
09:43so the
09:44the narrative
09:46of the youngins
09:46being
09:47their growth
09:48being retarded
09:49is not necessarily
09:50true
09:50and
09:51in my opinion
09:53it would be
09:54totally asinine
09:55to trade
09:56AD right now
09:57because there's
09:59no value for him
10:00there's no value
10:01for him right now
10:01none
10:02exactly
10:03what exactly
10:04do you expect
10:05to get back
10:05for him
10:06garbage
10:08so why would
10:09you trade him
10:10there's no benefit
10:11to him
10:12so yeah
10:13I'm taking LeBron
10:14coming here
10:15seven days a week
10:17and twice on Sunday
10:18yeah me too
10:19me too
10:20and LeBron
10:21last year
10:22played the fewest
10:23number of minutes
10:24on average
10:25in his career
10:25at 33.2
10:27and it would be
10:28kind of a similar
10:28thing because he
10:29would be mentoring
10:30I mean imagine
10:31AJ DeBonsa
10:32with LeBron
10:32on the roster
10:33mentoring him
10:34who better
10:35to learn from
10:36I know
10:37and the thing
10:37that's so important
10:38about this coming
10:39season which
10:40we both know
10:41LeBron's not
10:42going to end up
10:42here but I
10:43think we both
10:44believe that AD
10:45is going to
10:45end up here
10:45because like you
10:46said they got
10:47him for basically
10:48a song
10:49they're not
10:49going to trade
10:50him for a song
10:51six four months
10:52later five months
10:53later that's stupid
10:54he's got to prove
10:55something before
10:56they can get
10:56proper trade value
10:57back if they
10:58decide to do
10:59that it would
10:59be at the
10:59deadline
11:01but the
11:02the most
11:03important thing
11:04this upcoming
11:05season is the
11:07development
11:07environment has
11:09to change
11:09from tanking
11:11and your
11:12opponents not
11:13taking you
11:13seriously and
11:14you not even
11:15caring about
11:16looking at the
11:16standings to
11:18playing in
11:18meaningful basketball
11:19games where
11:20your opponent
11:21thinks and knows
11:22you're trying to
11:22win and also
11:23knows you're
11:24competitive and
11:25you've got games
11:26that matter we've
11:28got to see what
11:28the Keyshawn
11:29Georges and the
11:30Alex Sars and
11:31the Trey Johnsons
11:32and the Will
11:32Riley's what they
11:34look like when
11:35games are actually
11:36being played
11:37competitively with
11:38the goal being
11:39winning the game
11:40it's different
11:41it's different
11:43between the
11:44regular season
11:45team that's
11:45trying to win
11:46and the playoff
11:47team there's a
11:48massive difference
11:49between regular
11:49season and
11:50playoffs in
11:51general but
11:52what the Wizards
11:53have been doing
11:53it's not the
11:55best developmental
11:56environment they've
11:57got to change
11:58that CJ finish
12:00it up for us go
12:01ahead
12:02hey
12:02can you hear
12:03me yeah I
12:04got you CJ
12:06hey long time
12:07what's my first
12:07time caller
12:08thanks CJ
12:10hey thanks I've
12:11had the misfortune
12:12of being a DC
12:12fan because I
12:14saw the Redskins
12:15win the Super
12:15Bowl when I was
12:1613 so it's
12:17just been a curse
12:17I'm in Jacksonville
12:18now and the only
12:19thing more delusional
12:20than Jaguars fans
12:21is my own delusion
12:21every year
12:23yeah for DC
12:23sports but like
12:25I'll start with
12:25this which is that
12:27this brought me
12:27back to Michael
12:28Jordan and
12:29Kwame Brown so
12:30we've already
12:31had old goats
12:31come in here
12:32and ruin the
12:32sheep also I
12:34heard before
12:36that there's no
12:36value to trading
12:37AD now but
12:38there could be
12:39value to trading
12:40him at a
12:40deadline yes
12:42the value of
12:43Anthony Davis
12:46could very well
12:47be right now
12:49at a premium
12:50because LeBron
12:51wants him so
12:52much so we
12:52may get
12:53something out
12:53you know what
12:54I thought about
12:55that when Anthony
12:55and I were
12:56talking about it
12:57that is definitely
12:59something that
13:00could boost
13:00the compensation
13:02package because
13:04LeBron wants
13:05him and they
13:05feel like they're
13:06AD away from
13:08winning a title
13:08or contending
13:09for a title so
13:10it might be more
13:11than what you had
13:12to give up you
13:13know to Dallas
13:14for him but it's
13:15still not maximum
13:16value he hasn't
13:17played in a while
13:18that's why they
13:18were able to get
13:19him for what
13:20they got him for
13:21that is fair
13:22but there is an
13:23additional nuance
13:24that I'd like to
13:25consider which is
13:25that the games are
13:27inherently more
13:27competitive now
13:28because of the
13:29anti-tank for the
13:30draft positioning
13:31yeah true
13:32so I think
13:33there's going to
13:33be an upward
13:34pressure on the
13:34youth now to
13:35deliver anyway
13:35also this is
13:37kind of a
13:37difference between
13:38short-term
13:38thinking and
13:39long-term
13:39thinking like
13:40the RG3
13:41Kirk Cousins
13:42which is that
13:43right now if
13:44we say I'm
13:44assuming I'm
13:45just going to
13:45throw out a
13:46number let's
13:46say that we're
13:4760% of the way
13:48to being
13:48competitive would
13:50a one-year
13:50experiment ruin
13:52that and bring
13:53it down to 40%
13:54so we have to
13:55start at 40%
13:56again or would
13:56I don't think
13:57so
13:57do you
14:00again I am
14:02just so ruined
14:03by the Michael
14:04Jordan Kwame Brown
14:04I know but
14:05that that was a
14:06different organization
14:07they had a
14:07different lead up
14:08to that I mean
14:09you know I
14:11think Christian
14:11Laettner was on
14:12that team you
14:14know there were
14:14some veterans on
14:15that team that
14:16weren't great you
14:18know to begin
14:19with they who
14:20were the young
14:21players other than
14:22Kwame Brown that
14:23had a lot of
14:23promise I mean
14:24Brendan Haywood
14:25maybe
14:27was there
14:28Courtney
14:29uh
14:29uh
14:31Courtney
14:32Alexander the
14:32the Virginia
14:33kid
14:34yeah there was
14:35Rip Hamilton
14:36Rip Hamilton
14:37good point
14:38Rip Hamilton was
14:38a young player
14:39that's true
14:40that's true
14:42although to be
14:44fair I
14:45I don't know
14:45that you
14:47know
14:48well I
14:50forget how I
14:50felt about Rip
14:51Hamilton in the
14:52moment so I
14:53don't want to
14:53answer that I
14:54almost forget how
14:55I felt about that
14:56team in general
14:57um thanks CJ for
14:59the call I got to
14:59run we're up
15:00against a hard
15:01break but an
15:01interesting uh
15:02topic nonetheless
15:03I don't see how
15:05you know even if it
15:06ended up being one
15:07year the young
15:08players wouldn't
15:09benefit from having
15:10LeBron James on
15:12the team and AJ
15:14DeBonsa having
15:14LeBron in his
15:16rookie season I
15:17don't I just don't
15:18know how that
15:19wouldn't be a
15:20benefit even if it
15:21didn't work out if
15:22it came back to what
15:23the Wizards were
15:24with Michael Jordan
15:25playing you know in
15:262001-2002
