00:00What do you make of these Kevin O'Connor reports?
00:02Kevin O'Connor is an NBA reporter,
00:04a longtime NBA reporter.
00:06Not a hack.
00:08He works for Yahoo, I believe,
00:10and maybe The Ringer.
00:12Not quite sure.
00:14He's put out reports that the reason
00:16LeBron James' decision hasn't happened
00:20and is on hold is still trying to see
00:24if his potential suitors can acquire Anthony Davis.
00:28Oh, yeah, I buy it.
00:30I guess.
00:30I buy it.
00:31I don't think it's going to happen, but I buy it.
00:32Yeah.
00:34You mentioned Davis and somebody else.
00:35I can't remember who else the other person.
00:37Kyrie.
00:38Yeah, Kyrie.
00:40I do buy that.
00:42I know that...
00:43The salary makes it hard.
00:44Like, Golden State was a team who at one point
00:47was rumored to be interested in Anthony Davis,
00:50and then that would help bring in LeBron James.
00:54The problem is fitting in the salaries.
00:58But this is a situation where I think
01:00the Wizards may have the intent of keeping Anthony Davis.
01:03I think they do.
01:04But this is a situation where I believe,
01:07my opinion is,
01:08they should explore this
01:09because teams may be desperate to get LeBron
01:13just because LeBron's going to generate
01:16so much money for them.
01:18Right.
01:18So an owner might be like,
01:19hey, go for it.
01:23Try and do whatever you can do
01:25to get LeBron James here for a year or two.
01:27It's going to help us compete for a championship,
01:29and we're going to make millions upon millions of dollars
01:34selling merch,
01:35selling out our arena every night.
01:38And essentially,
01:39the Wizards might be able to hold these teams hostage.
01:42I mean,
01:42I guess if they get some crazy haul,
01:45then certainly it would be ridiculous not to consider it.
01:49I just don't think it's going to happen.
01:50I think they're pretty committed to keeping AD.
01:52I trust Will and the brain trust he has around him,
01:54but I'm just being greedy.
01:57I kind of want to see what he can do in a Wizards uniform
01:59with this cast of talent.
02:02And Will kind of said that.
02:03He said,
02:04didn't he basically say,
02:05no, we're not trading you.
02:05Right.
02:06You're not on the trade market.
02:07That's at least the public stance at this point.
02:09Right.
02:09But I think to JP's point,
02:11if someone offers you some crazy haul,
02:13you have to consider everything.
02:15And I'm sure they would.
02:16But I think that,
02:17by and large,
02:17I don't think that's going to happen.
02:18But I do buy,
02:19I don't,
02:20for some reason,
02:21and LeBron is a lot of things,
02:23but I don't think he's like,
02:24just desperate for people to talk about him every day.
02:27And he just,
02:28he already knows three weeks ago where he's going.
02:31And I don't,
02:32it does make you wonder why he's waiting so long.
02:34I think because he is trying to see,
02:35maybe that is the reason.
02:37Every chess piece move,
02:38every chess piece,
02:39see the whole board before you make your decision.
02:42Yeah.
02:43And I know how we kind of react.
02:45Oh,
02:45he just wants the,
02:46all the attention.
02:46I don't know that he does.
02:47He's been doing it so long.
02:49You're right.
02:49You're right.
02:49I'm sure there's a logical reason.
02:52And maybe it is because he's waiting to see if Davis gets moved.
02:54Maybe Davis or Kyrie or Kyrie.
02:57Both those guys.
02:58It's interesting though.
02:59Certainly with Davis,
03:00isn't he the one that people thought at the time,
03:02he kind of okayed the deal to move on from him.
03:06Like it,
03:06didn't Davis feel a little backstabbed at one point.
03:10I thought that was the narrative.
03:12Maybe it was false.
03:13I don't know what to believe on that.
03:15When they moved Davis.
03:16But I do,
03:17I kind of agree with cakes.
03:18I mean,
03:18I'd certainly want to see what Davis can do here.
03:20Oh,
03:20totally.
03:20And I think Will Dawkins believes that too.
03:22Did you see the workout video from Swish culture that had Keyshawn,
03:29Keyshawn and Trey.
03:30And I don't know where Swish culture is,
03:33but it looked like a bunch of college guys,
03:35maybe some pro guys.
03:36They're just basically playing pickup.
03:39But I mean,
03:40Keyshawn just looks great.
03:42I mean,
03:42you know,
03:43I don't know what to make of it.
03:43It's not NBA competition.
03:47But I just think that what these guys are doing in the off season is just so,
03:52so impressive.
03:53Can we focus on a lesser group of athletes at this point?
03:56Namely us.
03:57What do you mean?
03:58With the first pitch.
03:59What do you?
04:00Drab brought up an interesting tidbit during the break.
04:03Okay.
04:03Like if one of us has a really bad first pitch and just flubs it,
04:07they should serve a breakfast penalty.
04:09Have to buy breakfast?
04:10Yeah.
04:11So sure.
04:12I don't think anybody's going to seriously flub it.
04:16Well,
04:17no EFIS pitches either.
04:18I'm not going to EFIS it,
04:19but I'm just going to throw it in there softly.
04:21I was telling Drab,
04:22I might just bring whatever heat I have in this.
04:26Cakes,
04:26his arm is loose.
04:27He's ready to go.
04:28I delivered him a solid pitch in the hallway.
04:31I'm not going to bring heat.
04:32I think I might just throw as hard as I can.
04:36What happens to all that?
04:37You're not going to throw as hard as you can.
04:39You're not going to be that far away from the catcher.
04:40I'll just tell the catcher.
04:41I'm bringing the heat.
04:43Get ready.
04:44Get ready.
04:44Just get ready.
04:45I'm bringing the heat.
04:46Tell him to put a batting glove underneath.
04:47You're probably not going to have the catcher.
04:49Maybe you will in the minor league.
04:50Anytime I've ever done it,
04:51they'll give you a mascot or some doofus with a big fake glove.
04:54It's minor league baseball.
04:56Right.
04:56Well,
04:56I'm just saying,
04:57you're not going to get the catcher.
04:59You're going to have a doofus.
05:00Like the catcher is so busy.
05:02This is what I've learned about Bickle.
05:04He's all talk.
05:06He's got all this fake bravado.
05:07I don't have any.
05:08I have no more swagger.
05:10I don't have any athletic swagger.
05:11I'm 57 years old.
05:1256.
05:13I know,
05:13but sometimes you pull me aside and say,
05:16you know how silly we are.
05:18You know,
05:18we're a big silly.
05:19That's not true.
05:20You're just making up stuff.
05:21That's true.
05:22You're just making up stuff.
05:23Don't ever forget it.
05:25Did you not say that in Dewey Beach?
05:28When you pulled Valdez and ISI said,
05:30about the show.
05:31Yeah.
05:31Don't ever forget.
05:32We're big sillies.
05:33Oh yeah.
05:34I have that.
05:34I have that swagger for the show.
05:36But I mean,
05:37athletic swagger.
05:38I don't like,
05:38I don't have golf swagger.
05:39I don't have nothing.
05:40It's all gone.
05:41I just want,
05:41I don't want you to,
05:42my idol to go out there tonight and lob a pitch in.
05:44I'm not going to lob it like the Bonta,
05:46but I'm not going to go in there and fire it.
05:49I'm just not going to do that.
05:51I'm hopefully going to deliver a strike.
05:54I'm not concerned about it.
05:55I'm not going to throw my arm out,
05:57but I'm going to try to bring at least a little bit of mustard on it.
06:00Yeah.
06:00Why not?
06:01I've done that before.
06:02I've been there and done that.
06:03JP will hum it in there a bit.
06:05Hum it in there.
06:05I don't want to,
06:06like when they wheeled out Ted Williams in the 99 All-Star game.
06:09No, I may choke under the pressure.
06:11You do it then.
06:12I may sail it.
06:13I may lose track of it,
06:15but I'm not from Bowie.
06:16I can't throw the ball.
06:17At least I'm going out swinging, baby.
06:20I'm bringing that thing tonight.
06:22I brought the heat in Loudoun County,
06:25and that's when I one-hopped it.
06:28I'm not doing that.
06:28I'm not doing that.
06:30Because I was on the mound,
06:31and it was too much angle.
06:33I'm not that worried about it.
06:35Aim for the catcher's head.
06:36That way, if it comes out low.
06:38I am, but I'm not going to bring heat.
06:40Plus, I don't have heat anymore.
06:41I mean, look,
06:42I hope there's tons of people there,
06:43but this is the reality.
06:44Even at Major League games.
06:46No one cares.
06:47With stars.
06:48No one's paying attention.
06:48Like, it could be John Wall.
06:50Yeah.
06:50Hardly anybody's watching.
06:52I know, trust me.
06:52Hardly anybody's there
06:53because they're getting their food
06:55before the game.
06:55I couldn't have been more nervous.
06:56So, we've done Minor League games before.
06:58I mean, it's been years
06:59since I've thrown a pitch
07:00at Fred Nats
07:01or wherever we've done
07:03these things before.
07:04I think about the Major League stadium
07:06and how nobody's watching
07:08and then bring it down
07:09to the Minor League level.
07:10It's going to be
07:10dozens of people watching.
07:12For some reason,
07:13I threw out the first pitch
07:15at Nats Park
07:16with you guys
07:17as a group at one point
07:18and I also did it individually.
07:20I did too.
07:21And when I did it,
07:22there literally were
07:24300 people in the stands
07:26and all they were doing
07:28was eating their ice cream,
07:31drinking their beer,
07:32talking to their friends.
07:33But I thought,
07:34you feel like
07:35when you're out there,
07:36you feel like
07:36all the eyes of the world
07:38are upon you.
07:39But it's also humbling
07:40because you'll hear
07:41the PA announcer
07:42and go,
07:42here celebrating 30 years
07:44of the sports junkies.
07:46You know them
07:47from Bowie, Maryland.
07:49John Cakes-Hawville,
07:51Eric E.B. Pickle,
07:53Jason Lurch Bishop,
07:55John Flynn Flame.
07:57And then there'll be
07:59like two people clapping.
08:00There'll be a sparrick of applause.
08:01It'll be, you know,
08:02Mr. Mercier,
08:03Ross,
08:05Cakes' brother.
08:06My brother's working.
08:07You can't even go.
08:08I did.
08:09I did send a correction email.
08:11Or J.B.'s name?
08:12I think it'd be classic
08:14if they write it as
08:15John Flynn Flame.
08:15That would be funny.
08:16I was on MLB.com
08:18and it was on there.
08:20Like,
08:20it was a press release.
08:21Okay.
08:22And it said John Flynn.
08:23And I was like,
08:24they're going to say that
08:25at the stadium on the PA.
08:26And then that will be embarrassing.
08:28So I sent a correction email.
08:29Okay.
08:29They'll mispronounce my last name.
08:31They'll call it Eric Brickle.
08:33It's fine.
08:33It's going to happen.
08:34John Ollville.
08:35It's whatever.
08:36It's fine.
08:37It doesn't matter.
08:38It doesn't matter.
08:39All that matters is
08:40just delivering a decent first pitch.
08:42You'll be fine.
08:43All right.
08:44And whoever,
08:44if anybody flubs it,
08:46you're buying Egg McMuffins.
08:47You're a whole round of them tomorrow.
08:49Okay.
08:51That's fair.
08:52Sure.
08:52I don't think anybody's going to flub it.
08:53I think it's going to be fine.
08:55I hope I don't sail it over the catcher's head.
08:56I like caviar on my Egg McMuffin.
08:58Hey,
08:59what is a flub?
09:00Like,
09:01what do you consider a flub,
09:02cakes?
09:02A bounce?
09:03Yes.
09:04Or an overthrow?
09:05Or an overthrow?
09:05If it's 10 feet over the catcher's head,
09:07that counts as flubbing it.
09:09How's that going to happen?
09:10I don't know.
09:1110 feet over?
09:13Like,
09:14you just lose your body temporarily.
09:15I don't know.
09:16Some people have done that.
09:17Yeah.
09:18Not on purpose.
09:19You've seen it.
09:20You've seen those dumps.
09:21Some of those first pitches out there.
09:23All right,
09:23let's go to Mike.
09:24The true challenge
09:25which would make us all look bad
09:26would be if they put us on third base.
09:28Yeah.
09:29In the hot corner
09:30and hit a ground ball
09:31and we had to throw it to first.
09:32I'm not doing that.
09:33Yeah,
09:34you know,
09:34asking me to take fungos before the game.
09:35You think I want to lose my choppers
09:37and have a ball hop up
09:38and hit me in the face?
09:39They could throw a dribbler.
09:41They could hit a dribbler.
09:42A dribbler is fine.
09:42They could hit a dribbler.
09:43But my point is
09:44the throw from third base
09:46would be a challenge.
09:47That would be tough.
09:48I don't know.
09:49You're from the hole at shortstop.
09:50You're almost 60 years old.
09:52It's over.
09:52You're not really almost 60.
09:54Well,
09:54I'm almost 57.
09:55That's close to 60.
09:56It's over.
09:58The athletic days are over.
10:01I understand.
10:02Yeah.
10:03I've had cortisone shots
10:04in my shoulder
10:04multiple times.
10:06Me too.
10:07You're not going to
10:07feel the ground
10:08in the hole
10:09and rip a throw to first.
10:10I know.
10:11My point is
10:11that the
10:13first pitch
10:13for a 56 year old
10:14that would be very difficult.
10:15is not a big deal.
10:17Correct.
10:18All right,
10:18let's go to Mike.
10:19Probably for a front of the mound
10:20it's a 45 to 50 foot toss.
10:23Yes.
10:24Yes.
10:24Mike in Woodbridge.
10:26I'm bringing it.
10:28Hey,
10:28out of all of you,
10:29no offense,
10:31the one who would make it
10:33to home plate
10:34would have to be
10:36Jason,
10:37the six footer.
10:39The six footer?
10:40Big popper.
10:41Fisher.
10:41All right,
10:42he's taller than six feet.
10:43I'm taller than,
10:44slightly taller than six feet.
10:45What do you mean,
10:45make it to home plate?
10:46You don't think any of us
10:47can make it to home plate
10:48from a mound?
10:49I said over 60.
10:51Yeah.
10:51Oh.
10:52All the guys
10:52are going to make it to home plate.
10:53We're all going to make
10:54a fine pitch.
10:55It's going to be fine.
10:56Jason's Randy Johnson
10:57because he's butt tall.
10:57I think everybody else
10:58is just a little bit tiny
11:01compared to the big popper.
11:02Well,
11:02he's a giant.
11:03Yes,
11:04of course.
11:05He's a giant.
11:05That's the genetics.
11:06That's the genetics I have.
11:08He's a freak.
11:09A freak.
11:09Right.
11:10He's freakishly tall.
11:11Thank you, Mike.
11:14Todd Turner.
11:15Shocker.
11:15Todd Turner calling in.
11:17Todd going to make
11:17an appearance tonight?
11:18Anytime he hears
11:19Booey.
11:19Is he a representative
11:19of Booey or something?
11:20If he hears Booey,
11:21it's like a dog whistle for him.
11:22He's called before, right?
11:24He's a councilman.
11:25Is he elected official?
11:26Believe so.
11:27Still?
11:27He can remind us.
11:28He can let us know.
11:29Todd,
11:29what's your official title?
11:30Do you still have a title?
11:32No,
11:32I don't have a title anymore.
11:33I'm no longer
11:34an elected official.
11:35You're a civilian.
11:35I tell people
11:36I'm a former
11:37recovering elected official.
11:38All right.
11:39I just want to say
11:40happy 30th anniversary.
11:42Glad we were able
11:43to put something together tonight.
11:44Sounds like it's going
11:45to be a great time.
11:47Are you going to be there?
11:48No.
11:49I cannot be there.
11:51I'm celebrating
11:52my wife's birthday
11:53and we're going down
11:53to Ocean City.
11:55I mean,
11:56that's kind of the same thing.
11:57Ocean City,
11:57based on this game.
11:58We're definitely talking
11:58by Fausto's.
11:59Yeah.
12:00Good.
12:00We're going to go by Fausto's.
12:01But he did help
12:02set it up,
12:03so thank you, Todd.
12:04All right.
12:04Very nice.
12:05We appreciate it.
12:06Thank you, Todd.
12:06Todd,
12:07tell Fausto
12:07that you and I
12:09our friends
12:09when you get in there.
12:11Ask for Fausto
12:12and tell him
12:12and he'll give you
12:14a nice little appetizer.
12:16All right.
12:17Appreciate it.
12:17Appreciate it.
12:17Hey, listen.
12:19I've been to Spain,
12:21the restaurant
12:21over at the Cambria.
12:23Yes.
12:24Yes, I've been there.
12:25It's over by the Boardwalk.
12:26He's been there, too.
12:27Yes, it's selling.
12:28I have not been there yet.
12:29It's up in the hotel.
12:30You definitely got to
12:31try that out
12:32when you go down there.
12:32That's like my wife's
12:33favorite spot.
12:34It's up on the rooftop.
12:35It's actually a somewhat
12:35classy spot.
12:36Yeah.
12:37Okay.
12:37Yeah, it's pretty nice.
12:38All right, I'll check that out.
12:38So good.
12:39Yeah.
12:40All right, enjoy, Todd.
12:42Say again?
12:43Thanks, Todd.
12:43I just said enjoy.
12:44I'm trying to make you go away.
12:47Anyway, have fun tonight, guys.
12:49Make sure you get lots of videos
12:50so I can see you.
12:51All right.
12:51Okay, we'll do.
12:52All right, enjoy your wife.
12:53Give her some loving tonight.
12:55And happy 30th anniversary for you.
12:58I'm 31 years this year.
12:59All right, you got me by a year.
13:01Thank you, Todd.
13:01Appreciate you.
13:02Really, thank you.
13:03All right, take care, guys.
13:04Good luck.
13:04All right, thanks, buddy.
13:05Yeah, thank you.
13:06He's in the private sector now.
13:07He's out of that political game.
13:09I don't even know how they're going to squeeze us in
13:11because aren't they doing Margaritaville?
13:13Yeah, there's a lot of things.
13:14You're going to be away and are the Cangrejos tonight?
13:17Yeah.
13:17I'm a little bit concerned about parking.
13:19Should I not be concerned about parking?
13:20I think you're going to be fine.
13:21It's Thursday night.
13:22I mean, I sleep.
13:23It's Thursday night in the minor leagues.
13:25I always worry about parking.
13:26I think you're good.
13:26It may be tougher to park.
13:27I mean, I haven't been there in 10 years.
13:28It may be tougher to park at the Home Depot on your way in.
13:30Yeah.
13:31I think you're going to be good.
13:32Or isn't BJ's on the way, too?
13:34They've got, like, if you take that road to the minor league stadium.
13:37I haven't been to that stadium since the Allen Iverson thing.
13:40I'm sure I know everything around it.
13:41But I believe that you take that road and there's a Home Depot
13:45and a BJ's warehouse, and then you finally get to the stadium.
13:48It's barely recognizable.
13:50I don't remember.
13:51All right.
13:51When we come back, we will talk more commanders.
13:53Chris Russell, host on the Team 980, he'll give us a training camp preview.
13:58Rookies report tomorrow in Ashburn.
