00:20Kenya maintains a defense agreement with the UK which allows for several thousand British forces
00:25to carry out exercises on Kenyan soil each year. The training has been relocated to another country,
00:32the ministry said, without disclosing the new location. It did not reveal the reasons behind
00:38the failure to obtain the license, while Nairobi did not respond to journalists' questions on the
00:44matter. The relocation, however, does not affect the broader defense partnership between the two
00:50countries, the ministry said. The base has been a source of controversy over the years,
00:56thanks to high-profile murder and rape cases involving British soldiers. In 2022,
01:03British forces were accused of burning down a nature reserve in Laikipia while carrying out exercises.
