00:00A UK soldier has been accused of raping a fellow British woman in Kenya.
00:06The UK's Minister of Defence confirmed this and further indicated that the soldier was already under custody
00:12and had been sent back to London following the alleged incident last month
00:16near the controversial British Army training unit in Nanyuki, Kenya.
00:20The British Army, which has sole jurisdiction and does not involve the Kenyan police,
00:25is still conducting investigations.
00:26Some Kenyans have long complained about the soldiers' behaviour and their atmosphere around their training camp.
00:34There was an outcry over the 2012 death of a 21-year-old, Agnes Wanjiru,
00:39who was last seen alive living a bar with British troops near their training camp.
00:44Her body was later found in a septic tank.
00:47Wanjiru's family has campaigned for years for the suspected perpetrator,
00:51a serving British soldier at the time, to be charged.
00:53In April, UK's Defence Secretary John Healy met with Wanjiru's relatives in Kenya
00:59and vowed to help the family secure the justice they deserve.
01:03A UK-Kenya Defence Corporation agreement allows thousands of British soldiers
01:07to train in the East African country each year.
01:10About 200 UK troops are based there permanently to train Kenyan soldiers.
01:14That's okay.
