00:02Makinsos Nawai, president of the Sabah United Rungus Organization, or PRBS, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of obtaining
00:09a 2 million ringgit bribe.
00:11He entered his plea before Judge Andy Razalijaya Adadi at the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu on Thursday.
00:18Makinsos is accused of using his position to obtain the bribe in connection with the construction of the Rungus Cultural
00:24Hall and Gallery, a project funded by the Sabah Ministry of Finance.
00:29He allegedly submitted the funding application and personally carried out the construction without approval from the organization's Supreme Council members,
00:36despite having a vested interest in managing the project.
00:40The offence is said to have been committed in 2022.
00:43He's been charged under Section 23, Subsection 1 of the MACC Act 2009, which carries up to 20 years jail
00:50and a fine of at least five times the bribe amount, or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
00:57The court granted him bail of 50,000 ringgit with two sureties.
01:02Makinsos is required to report to the nearest MACC office monthly, surrender his passport, and is barred from contacting prosecution
01:08witnesses.
01:09Trial has been fixed for November 2-4.
