The director-general and a deputy of the Department of Environment (DOE) were charged in separate corruption cases at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Friday (April 3).

DOE director-general Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar and DOE deputy director-general Dr Norhazni Mat Sari both pleaded not guilty and were granted bail.

00:14The 59-year-old Wan Abdul Latif was charged with bribery involving 100,000 ringgit linked to a proposed road
00:22project in Penang,
00:24but he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
00:26The accused allegedly received the bribe from Sunrich Conquest Sandirian Bahad Director Kor Chong Hai through one Lee Ham Kong
00:35as an inducement for him to consider the exemption of an environmental impact assessment report on the project involving a
00:43plot of government land in Paya Terubong.
00:46The offence was allegedly committed at the accused's office in Putrajaya on January 15.
00:52The prosecution proposed bail at 100,000 ringgit, citing the accused as a flight risk.
00:59After the accused's defence team argued about the amount, the court set bail at 40,000 ringgit with one surety
01:06and ordered the accused to surrender his passport pending disposal of the case.
01:11The court then fixed May 7 for case mention.
01:15Meanwhile, Wan Abdul Latif's deputy, Norhazni Matsari, also claimed trial to six counts of accepting bribes totalling 21,000 ringgit.
01:26The 59-year-old accused, who was then Deputy Director General for Development and Operations,
01:32allegedly received the money from a company director connected to her official duties between April 18, 2022 and July 19,

01:42The court allowed bail of 25,000 ringgit with one surety and ordered the accused to surrender her passport until
