00:00B&M has been ordered to pay Ā£2 million after mouse infestations were found at three Birmingham stores.
00:08It pleaded guilty to food hygiene offences following inspections prompted by complaints from the public.
00:15At St Andrews Retail Park, officers found mouse activity and Nord products still on sale.
00:21The council then served an emergency prohibition notice after its visit to the premises in November 2024.
00:27At Priory Square, a customer reported seeing a mouse inside the shop.
00:32Inspectors later found rodent urine on food packaging and shelves, pool cleaning and gaps allowing pests to enter.
00:39The store was immediately closed because of the risk to public health and it remains closed today.
00:46A further inspection at the Fort Shopping Park in Erdington found widespread evidence of mice including droppings close to children's
00:53toys.
00:54That store was also closed.
00:56Birmingham City Council said the conditions required immediate action to protect customers and staff alike.
01:03Now B&M have responded.
01:05They say they are deeply sorry and they accept full responsibility.
01:11They acknowledge that existing procedures had not been followed.
