00:01Singapore's acting minister in charge of Muslim affairs, Fajal Ibrahim, has resigned from the government and the ruling People's Action
00:09Party.
00:09Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said the resignation followed Fajal's interactions with a woman, mainly through online messages and meetings on
00:18the sidelines of public events.
00:20Both parties later made harassment allegations against each other, prompting a police investigation.
00:26Wong said police found that neither party had committed a criminal offence and no further action would be taken.
00:33However, he said there remained a separate question over whether Fajal's conduct met the standards expected of a political officeholder
00:42and member of parliament.
00:44In his resignation letter, Fajal said there had been no physical relationship and he had not intended for the interactions
00:51to develop into one.
00:53However, he admitted to a lapse of judgment in handling the matter and failing to establish clearer boundaries earlier.
01:01Fajal had served as an MP since 2006 and became acting minister in charge of Muslim affairs in May 2025.
01:09Wong said he was saddened that Fajal was leaving politics under such circumstances.
