00:10Upon hearing of the passing of the legend, many cricket corner-seers would have instantly
00:14remembered the 6-6' Sir Garfield Sobers' hit of Malcolm Nash in an over at first class
00:19level. Sobers left an indelible mark following an illustrious career with the West Indies.
00:24From 93 test matches, he scored 8,032 runs at an average of 57.78. And with the ball,
00:32he picked up 235 wickets. Many continue to pay tribute to the man better known as Sir
00:37Garry Sobers. One of them is former West Indies whiteboard cricketer Riyad Emrit,
00:41who says it's indeed sad to lose a great legend.
00:44His passing is a tremendous loss to Caribbean people as well as people around the world.
00:48He's been a great mentor for a lot of us and I'm sure the rule is in mourning at this
00:56point in time.
00:58Condolences go to his family and friends and really close ones to him. So we as West Indian
01:04people, I know we've lost the legend, we've lost the great son of the soil.
01:07Emrit, who recently led TNT to four days success as a coach, also had the opportunity to interact
01:13with Sobers years ago. And the message from the legend was simple.
01:17He's one of the greatest all-rounders we've seen. I've never really seen him play in life,
01:23but watching his videos and my interaction with him, you always keep it simple. Go over there and
01:29give your best and make sure you leave everything out on the field. He was very simple, a simple person.
01:36The West Indies Retired Players Foundation has also issued a statement following the passing of
01:41Sobers on Friday at the age of 89. Sir Gary was one of the greatest cricketers ever to grace the
01:47West Indies and his career spanned over 20 years. From 1954 to 1974, he represented the West Indies in
01:55numerous historic test matches and also dominated English county cricket. We have been privileged to
02:01witness and experience his remarkable exploits and cherish the memories of his cricketing excellence.
02:07better with now. Why need he to export?
