00:00Yes, soon enough, we'll be watching the World Series on Netflix.
00:03You're absolutely right.
00:05Look, whether we like it or not, we have to all acknowledge the fact that the broadcast world that we
00:13grew up in, it's gone.
00:15The sports leagues understand the economics attached to a streaming platform and that they need to constantly be feeding the
00:25beast to explain why someone is subscribing.
00:30As Netflix continues to raise its prices, remember when Netflix was $5.99?
00:35Now it's what?
00:36If you don't want to have ads, it's $18.99, $24.99 for the 4K package, $25 a month.
00:45That adds up very quickly.
00:47So I don't care how many episodes of Stranger Things or The Outer Banks you're watching, people are going to
00:54do the economic math and say, okay, do I really want to pay for this?
00:57Because I'm paying for X and Y and Z and all these different things, right?
01:03So if you're looking at this from an economic standpoint and you're Netflix, you have to overpay for the NFL.
01:09You have to overpay for Major League Baseball.
01:12You have to get these tentpole events, Christmas, Christmas Day games, Thanksgiving, New Year's, New Year's Day, all these different
01:21things.
01:22You have to overpay for it and you can if you're Netflix because you have been so flush with money
01:28over the last couple of years due to very successful shows like Stranger Things and other ones that cause people
01:34to sign up like crazy.
01:35Same thing is going to happen for Prime and they've got Amazon money, so they don't care how much they
01:41pay.
01:42So once these contracts start to become available for the NFL and whatnot, that's where it's all going to go.
01:49By 2032, I fully expect us to not be watching cable television, ABC, NBC, CBS, even ESPN.
01:59I think we'll struggle.
02:01The big three when I was growing up was CBS, NBC, I guess big four because I'm 49.
02:07So Fox became a big thing.
02:09ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox.
02:11You're four, right?
02:12Well, now it's going to be Amazon Prime, Netflix, and we'll see what the third one turns out to be.
02:20It could be a peacock.
02:22It could be somebody else who steps in and has the ability to get people's attention.
02:27It very well could be ESPN standalone with ESPN with their app.
02:32But these days of having broadcast TV, rabbit ears, they've got to change the law.
02:39They've got to change the, you know, there's laws in place to say that you have to be available in
02:44your home market over broadcast television.
02:46If they can change that and put everything onto the internet, they will.
02:50And then all we will do, yeah, that's a good point.
02:53Paramount's the third.
02:54Good point.
02:54Paramount, yep, for the UFC.
02:56But, you know, that's just the way it is.
03:01It's a bummer.
03:03It's a bummer for sure at the moment as to how these things are going simply because we're all having
03:08to, once they have us, they can change the price.
03:13That was the one thing about cable television is that cable TV, for the most part, yes, prices were raised,
03:19but it wasn't raised the same way because you paid for a big ball of a whole group of channels.
03:26And so, like, if ESPN's prices went from $5 a month to $5.25 a month, it didn't really hit
03:34us.
03:35It was $0.25.
03:35We didn't really see it all that much on the bill.
03:38Like, yeah, the bill went up a little bit, but not like how it does when there's a $2.50,
03:43$2.50 raise or $3, $5 raise when you get that email saying, thank you for being a loyal customer.
03:49Because of whatever, we're going to raise your rate to this now.
03:55And, you know, that won't ever go down.
03:58Netflix prices aren't going down.
04:00They're going to go up.
04:01Everything's going to go up.
04:02So are we, should we just prepare for this?
04:06Absolutely.
04:06We should just sit back and prepare for having all of everything on sports to be on streaming platforms in
04:13the very near future.
04:14Again, it's 2026.
04:16I think within six years, everything is on streaming platforms and cable TV, broadcast TV is not existent.
04:24We're now watching everything on Paramount, on Netflix, on ESPN, on Prime.
04:31It's all going to be gone.
