00:00uh tyler sodarstrom of the a's is who we want to talk about next tyler sodarstrom was awesome
00:05last year and you understand why the a's handed him a big time extension sodarstrom was a gold
00:10glove winner had 25 homers last year got off to this really slow start but sodarstrom in the month
00:17of june has ops over a thousand and sodarstrom has been awesome in his last 30 games he's hitting
00:23330 with a 1093 ops eight homers and 21 driven in this guy is a massive piece of what the
00:30a's are
00:31building in that young core that's headed to vegas you might be priced out of kurtz by this point i
00:36would not blame uh nick kurtz for not entertaining anything but of the extensions that they have
00:41handed out you probably feel safest with jacob wilson but this one may be the most exciting in my
00:48opinion it's it's funny too because i think there was some just like question in the beginning
00:55where it's like okay this guy's gonna have to really really really hit because it was like the
00:59converted catcher to more first base uh how's the defense gonna grade out in the outfield and
01:04you know we saw him win a gold glove last year this year good in the drs department not great
01:09in the oa
01:09department i'll say in aggregate still probably a solid defender out there the funny thing is he
01:14started really slow and and it really almost feels like that was a fever dream because then you look
01:19at the season long numbers and last year's great season was a 125 wrc plus this year's slow started
01:26season is a 121 um so he's four percent off of where he was at last year he's on pace
01:32to hit more homers
01:33um slightly maybe by a couple uh but i given how he's ticked up now he could beat that by
01:38a good amount
01:39he's upped his walk rate by four percent he's cut his strikeout rate by four percent it's like
01:43i think the lines like everything's kind of lining up here for soderstrom to end up having a better
01:48season than he had last year and sometimes you got to work through that slow start um and get through
01:53there um and i think that's the part that is exciting with soderstrom is you had this kind of
01:57breakout year last year you have this slow start and you already see him correcting it even through the
02:03slow start there was a lot of reasons to believe that things would get better um this is a really
02:08good player i think that contract is going to continue to age well another player that it's
02:12easy to forget he's still just 24 years old so the best days of tyler soderstrom could continue to be
02:17ahead i'm most encouraged by what we've seen from the strikeout rate i mean remember in his big league
02:21debut and 138 plate appearances he struck out 31 of the time that has consistently gone down
02:26every single time we check in
