Thanks for joining me for your afternoon weather update from the Met Office.
00:03
The Met Office weather warnings continue, the wintry weather continues and there
00:07
are also Environment Agency flood warnings in place as well. Check out the
00:11
website for more details on all of that. Here's the view from space. First thing
00:16
this morning, big swirl of cloud, that's the low pressure that brought the snow
00:19
over the weekend. Down to the southwest there's a bank of cloud that is going to
00:24
mix things up as we go into tomorrow. But in between the two, these lumpy
00:28
looking clouds, well they're the showers, the wintry showers that have produced
00:32
more snow over Greater Manchester. Snow flow is coming into Northern Ireland and
00:36
across Northern Scotland as well. We have snow and ice warnings in place still
00:40
across Northern and Western Scotland, Northern Ireland through the rest of
00:43
today and tonight could be very slippery again as things freeze up once more. The
00:48
showers feeding into Northwest England and North Wales, a mixture of sleet and
00:53
snow here further south and east. Many places actually dry and fine this
00:57
afternoon, quite a bit of sunshine around. The winds are lighter in many
01:00
areas as well but there is a bitter wind still blowing across Northeastern
01:04
Scotland. Temperatures here two or three degrees add on that wind and it feels
01:09
perishing. Elsewhere temperatures similar to yesterday's but as I said
01:12
lighter winds doesn't feel quite so cold. Pretty quickly though those temperatures
01:17
will be back down below freezing as we go through this evening. So again
01:21
anything freezing up on the roads and the pavements making things really quite
01:25
slippery. So we do have that ice and snow warning in place for tonight and
01:29
into Wednesday. Could turn a bit foggy in some spots as well, parts of Northern
01:33
Ireland, Northwest England and across the Midlands but for many areas it's just
01:37
going to be a very clear night. The winds continuing to ease down which means
01:41
temperatures will fall further. A colder night than last night. Negative double
01:47
figures likely in rural parts of Northern England and certainly across
01:50
parts of Scotland. These are the values in towns and cities. Minus 2, minus 3.
01:54
Pretty widely. Notice however maybe not quite so cold in the far southwest.
02:00
Clouds starting to edge in here. That weather system we saw earlier. That is
02:03
going to mix things up as we go through tomorrow. Still a bit of uncertainty
02:08
about how much wet weather we get coming up from the south. Southern counties of
02:13
England will see some rain and snow likely. I say some uncertainty about how
02:18
far north it gets. So how much snow we exactly see will really depend on subtle
02:23
differences in the wind direction. The wind coming in from the sea, slightly
02:27
milder conditions. Wind coming in from the land means longer time for things to
02:31
cool down. So there could be some snow across southern counties of England
02:34
during Wednesday. It's far from certain however we do have that warning in place.
02:40
Something we're keeping a very close eye on. For many other areas it's a dry fine
02:44
day on Wednesday. Still a few wintry showers in Northern Scotland across the
02:48
north of Northern Ireland as well. The showers continuing here and there but
02:52
elsewhere many places dry and fine with some lengthy spells of sunshine. But
02:56
again it's going to be cold. We start minus 2, minus 3. We get up to plus 2, plus 3
03:00
in many locations. Could see some milder air trying to push into the far
03:04
southwest later on. But the potential still for this snowy weather across
03:09
southern counties of England through Wednesday evening's rush hour before it
03:13
finally starts to skirt away. As I said still uncertainty about how much snow we
03:18
see. Whether it be more of a rainy mixture. Elsewhere again things likely to
03:22
freeze up through Wednesday night. So again potentially very icy. Do keep up
03:26
to date with the Met Office weather warnings. Best way to do that through our
03:30
app or of course our website. If you're watching this on YouTube then hit the
03:34
thumbs up button and hit the subscribe button too.
